iOS 7.1 code reveals that Siri will reach the new Apple TV?

Siri may not be perfect when it comes to being a true virtual assistant, but we can’t deny that Apple started a new trend with it. Instead of being a simple voice command application, Siri can actually assist you in getting certain tasks done with your phone since the launch of the iPhone 4s. Those of you interested in getting this service on other devices beyond the iPhone and iPad are probably in for a treat. Rumors have it that Apple is going to bundle Siri on its next-generation Apple TV, though many of us ask ourselves how. Apple has been rumored to revamp the Apple TV this ...

iOS 7.1 was also Jailbroken on the iPhone 4s

Recently we saw how iOS 7.1 was jailbroken, but judging by the video that we caught, we understood that this was only applicable to the iPhone 4 running on Apple’s legacy A4 chip. Obviously the difference in processor architecture poses an additional challenge to developers in finding exploits, and thus makes jailbreaking difficult across the the whole iOS line-up of products. Today we hear new progress for jailbreaking iOS 7.1 which we’re sure will make many of you happy. In a response on Twitter, developer iH8sn0w confirmed that his iPhone 4s is Jailbroken on iOS 7.1. Given ...

iOS 7.1 untethered Jailbreak shown on video, but there’s a catch

Things haven’t been the same lately when it comes to the iOS hacking community. Years ago people turned those developers that were able to crack Apple’s code into famous movie stars, and lately all that has seemed to just fade away as iOS has evolved into solving the many complaints that gave people a reason to jailbreak. Still, the community exists, and even if Apple patched the exploit that allowed you to use Evasi0n on iOS 7.1, there’s already progress in fixing that.

iOS 7.1 seems to be giving some Personal Hotspot issues

Even though iOS 7.1 was just recently considered more stable than its predecessors in recent years, that claim was mainly focused on app reliability. There are still people complaining about battery life issues in some cases, and others are complaining about device overheating on the iPhone 5s. Today we’ve started to hear about a new problem that some iOS users are facing. It seems that the last couple of days, users have begun complaining directly to Apple about their Personal Hotspot service not working. Now keep in mind that in most cases, the iPhone detects the carrier settings ...

iOS 7.1 takes measures to avoid the motion sickness some felt

While some felt that iOS 7 was a much needed revamp from Apple’s already aging mobile operating system, not many people actually liked what they received. It was even well documented that some people were actually complaining about the whole Parallax effect causing them to feel motion sickness while using the phone. None of us actually experienced any of these issues to agree, but it seems that Apple took matters to heart and focused on fixing the problem. As per iOS 7.1, you’ll notice that there are additional switches and controls to make the UI less hostile to you senses. ...

iOS 7.1 transforms iBeacon into something a bit more useful

With the release of iOS 7 last year, Apple introduced smartphone users to the iBeacon, a Bluetooth-based system that lets these beacons alert nearby phones of their presence, ultimately triggering some kind of action in software – the whole thing was painted as a slightly more long-distance version of NFC tags. For instance, Major League Baseball has been installing iBeacons in stadiums to work in concert with its “At the Ballpark” app. Over ...

iOS 7.1 includes new in-app purchase alerts and security measures

Apple’s release of iOS 7.1 brought a lot of the changes that many of us were expecting. Bug fixes aside, iOS is clearly snappier to use regardless of what compatible iOS product you use. Obviously the list of changes was big, and Apple didn’t really share every single detail of the update with the public as it did with developers, and lately we keep noticing some minor changes to the OS. If you remember, Apple’s recent settlement with the FTC required the company to take additional measures ...

iOS 7.1 patches its only useful bug – nested folders

iOS 7 was launched to a certain degree of polarization in the industry. Some hated it, and others loved it, but there was one feature that was generally praised, and it was the fact that Apple removed its limitations to how many apps you could hold in one folder. That being said, not many knew that there was a cool bug in iOS 7 that allowed you to create folders within folders, and therefore allowing you to have a cleaner home screen. Sadly if you relied on this feature, you might want to consider not upgrading to iOS 7.1, even if that’s not something we’d call convenient. ...

Apple’s iOS 7.1 release hints at new iPad hardware

Apple’s iOS 7.1 is now upon us, delivering fixes, new features, and ruining the latest jailbreak – all the stuff we expect a significant iOS release to do. But along with the functionality it delivers, it also holds a few secrets, and one of them sure seems to suggest that Apple’s got a couple new hardware variants in the works. The iOS 7.1 code mentions support for two currently unknown iPad models, identified as the 4,3 and 4,6 editions. The former is likely

Apple to launch iOS 7.1 soon, just in time to support its SXSW app?

Ever since the official launch of iOS 7, Apple has been hard at work testing iOS 7.1. We’ve seen Cupertino launch five betas of the operating system update since mid-November, and even though we still don’t have a Gold Master candidate for developers, new reports have the update being pushed very soon due to a specific reason. According to Daring Fireball’s Jon Grubber, Apple is planning to launch a specific app to support SXSW, but this app requires some specific features that are only available on iOS 7.1. In his words: Apple’s first iTunes Festival in the U.S. ...

Apple is rumored to launch iOS 7.1 until a possible March event

Historically Apple has proven to be very diligent about its iOS beta releases. The company follows a specific schedule, and we’ve hardly ever seen it go beyond a fifth beta, or a second release candidate of any version of iOS that it launches. That said, we do have to remember that there is new leadership in-charge of iOS, and proof of this is the amount of bugs that many of us put-up with on the iPhone 5s and iPad Air, or even worse, the new rumor that iOS 7.1 beta may go for longer than expected. Reliable but undisclosed sources that are close to Apple are talking about a launch of ...

iOS bug lets attackers disable Find My iPhone

With last year’s launch of the Android Device Manager, Google took some important steps to bring new security features to its platform, helping users both locate missing hardware, as well as protect the data on that hardware from falling into the wrong hands. For Apple fans, though, this was all old hat, as iOS has offered its own Find My iPhone (or iPad, or Mac) service for years now. Being around for as long ...
