MetroPCS phones: which phones should you consider?

With all the smartphones available, picking your next phone can be a serious challenge. Each month, multiple new phones are added to the mix, all with varying levels of specifications, different software, new features, different degrees of build quality, and designs. To make it worse, a lot of the newer – and sometimes older – phones overlap one another. For instance, some of HTC’s newest smartphones (the Desire 610 and One mini 2, for instance), while slightly different, cover the exact same ground and target the same demographics. The other factor to consider is your carrier of ...

HTC One max vs Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 (Video)

Got a few hundred clams burning a hole in your pocket? Do you love absurdly oversized smartphone displays? Do you see no need for mobile devices to include a stylus in 2013? Then you, friend, have come to the right place. The subjects of today’s Pocketnow comparison are not alien to us. Each is a positively massive smartphone featuring powerful media consumption capabilities. We’ve already separately reviewed both the HTC One max and the

Sprint announces high-speed Spark LTE network with plans for gigabit service

The spread of LTE has brought higher data speeds than ever before to our smartphones, yet carriers aren’t resting on their laurels; we’ve already been talking about where things can go from here, like with the LTE-Advanced support that’s come to phones like the Galaxy S 4. Today we heard about something a little different from Sprint, with news of its own high-speed LTE service, dubbed Spark. The way Sprint describes it, the key to Spark is its ...

Galaxy Gear will be compatible with Galaxy S 4, S III and Note II soon; but how soon?

You’d wonder how smart a smartwatch really is if you really can’t pair it with more devices than just one, and ever since Samsung launched the Galaxy Gear, one of our biggest complaints was that we simply couldn’t use it on most of the existing and popular Galaxy smartphones in the market. Android 4.3 is required for the Galaxy Gear to work, and that’s rather unfortunate since Samsung hasn’t really been famous for timely updates in the last two years. If you wanted to use that Galaxy Gear, you were really forced to buy a Galaxy Note 3 along with it, and some ...

The HTC One max will be the Galaxy Note 3′s first victim

This morning brought news many of us have been anticipating for months. HTC made the One max – the larger brother to the renowned HTC One flagship from March – officially official. Except, instead of the HTC-made superphone we were hoping for, the One max is a bit of a downer. We really liked the HTC One here at Pocketnow. It received, at the time, one of the highest scores we’d ever given to a smartphone – a 9.2 out of 10. And I could barely wait to get my hands on one. On top of that, many of us ...

Sprint Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 leaked

The Samsung Galaxy Mega is a large phone. Just how large? Well, check it out for yourselves, while you also read our review of the unlocked unit, in case you missed it. Apparently, the HTC One Max, which we’ve recently reviewed, is going to also land on Sprint’s line-up, to complete its phablet offerings, sometime in the Holiday season. Until then, chances are that this other phablet will beat it to the (Sprint) ...

Purple Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 launched in Hong Kong

Samsung made fans of the purple color happy with the Purple Mirage Galaxy S 4 – a Sprint exclusive in the States — and has not ignored fans of  gigantic phones, with its Galaxy Mega 6.3. But how about those who’d love the Mega 6.3 in a purple shade? Apparently this mother of all phablets has ...

I may be done with big phones for good

I admit, I wasn’t on board with the idea of a 5.3-inch phone at first. I wrote a couple articles exclaiming how giant phones aren’t all that much more useful than, say, a 4-inch phone, and that they would be more difficult to use, hold, and carry for most people. I despised the original Galaxy Note … until I held one at CES 2012. And that’s when I fell in love. I came home from the trade show and bought one for myself. Admittedly, the original Note wasn’t the greatest phone ever. So I sold it after using it for several months, and set my sights on the Galaxy Note ...

AT&T phone leaks: LG Optimus G Pro, Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3

Fans of the LG Optimus G Pro on AT&T can currently opt for the single version available on the carrier and that flavor is black. According to this leaked render above, the carrier is planning on adding the white version to its line-up too. While this is, by no means, groundbreaking, it’s good to know there are options available, even if the Galaxy Note III is just around the corner. On that exact same note, AT&T is apparently preparing to carry the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3, in case you need an ...

Pocketnow Weekly 049: Samsung keeps making stuff, we keep squawking about it (Samsung Premiere 2013)

In the food service industry, when you’re a server who’s been slammed with too many customers and can’t keep up with the demand, you’re said to be “in the weeds.” On a podcast, that same expression means something quite different. It means you’ve wandered so far from your intended topic (in this case, mobile technology) that you’ve found yourself in the far-flung wilderness talking about anything but (in this case, sports cars, British accents, and the adult film industry). But while we do spend a fair amount of time in OT land on ...

A day in the life with a giant phone

When Anton didn’t immediately scowl at the thought of using an 8-inch tablet as a phone replacement, I called him crazy. I literally thought he’d lost it. The point of a cell phone – for portable communication – is completely negated by substituting it with a device that doesn’t fit in your pocket. And when he got the Fonepad by ASUS, actually liked it and didn’t change his mind like I thought he would, and scored it as an impressive (for a tablet)

Galaxy Mega 6.3 vs HTC One (Video)

While the Galaxy Mega 6.3 and HTC One have very little in common, both are symbolic of their respective makers’ current financial status and recent market performance. HTC is currently struggling and put every ounce of effort and know-how into a single smartphone. And the Galaxy Mega 6.3 is only one of many Samsung smartphones that have few realistic reasons to exist other than the fact that Samsung can afford to experiment to see what sticks. The Galaxy Mega ...

Pocketnow Weekly 048: Galaxy S 5 rumors meet Nokia EOS leaks in back alley, nasty knife fight ensues

Before we begin, we’d just like to say something to everyone who’s going to call us out for click-baiting with that “Galaxy S 5″ title: your allegations are completely founded and true. But look here: even though Galaxy S 5 rumors are (to say the least) premature and indicative of a serious problem with our nasty-fast industry -an issue we discuss on the air- they’re also important. That’s because, as unreliable and, frankly, stupid as they are, they also give us an opportunity to discuss the future of Samsung industrial design. And any opportunity we ...

Galaxy Mega 6.3 vs Galaxy Note II (Video)

Smartphones can’t possibly get any bigger, can they? We all asked ourselves this after Samsung introduced the original Galaxy Note. Then came the Galaxy Note II, 0.2-inches larger than the original. And Huawei presented the 6.1-inch Ascend Mate to the world at CES in January. Again, we thought there is no way phones are getting any larger. Well, Samsung has done it again. The Galaxy ...

As new “Galaxy Note III” images arrive, an alternate explanation surfaces

Yesterday, we brought you some images of a device purporting to be the in-development Galaxy Note III, with what looked like a big six-inch screen. Today, that’s joined by a new picture, apparently showing the Note III next to a couple other phones. No soon has it hit the scene, though, that we’re hearing claims that it’s a fake (or at least being misrepresented) and what we’re really looking at is the
