Galaxy K Zoom: what I want from Samsung’s next camera-smartphone hybrid

In typical Samsung fashion, the South Korea-based company is rumored to continue its “fire hose” method of saturating the market in every way possible. Not only does Samsung manage to cater to every last consumer imaginable through creating dozens of similar-yet-different products, it likes to bend the likes of its staple brands to appeal to different consumers, as well. For instance, last year, we saw the Galaxy S 4 mini, Galaxy S 4 Zoom, and the Galaxy S 4 Active, all of which were actually very little like the original device they each were derived from. Samsung also ...

Possible Galaxy S 5 Zoom pops up in import log

With that Samsung Unpacked invitation arriving last night, we’re understandably excited to learn just what Samsung might be planning to announce. The Galaxy S 5? Perhaps. A new Galaxy Gear smartwatch? Why not? A few hours back, we heard rumors that a Galaxy S 5 active might be in the works, so maybe even it might show up, rather than mirroring last year’s delayed arrival for those GS4 spin-offs. Now we’re looking at another possible GS5 ...

Nokia Lumia 1020 vs Galaxy S 4 Zoom (Video)

The Nokia Lumia 1020 isn’t just the yellowest smartphone ever to see the light of day. It’s also quite the accomplished cameraphone, its 41MP PureView sensor delivering photos with a quality and sharpness unrivaled by almost any competitor. If you doubt that, have a gander at the photos contained in our full 1020 review, then take a look at Taylor Martin’s tour of the Lumia’s camera ...

Galaxy S4 Zoom review rebuttal: bold is not enough (Video)

As efforts like After The Buzz, the Pocketnow U-Review, and Empty Nest demonstrate, we’re constantly searching for fresh ways to review mobile technology. The newest product of those efforts is Pocketnow’s “Review Rebuttal” series, in which a member of our team is assigned to test a smartphone or tablet that’s already gone through our standard review process. While ...

Galaxy Gear will be compatible with Galaxy S 4, S III and Note II soon; but how soon?

You’d wonder how smart a smartwatch really is if you really can’t pair it with more devices than just one, and ever since Samsung launched the Galaxy Gear, one of our biggest complaints was that we simply couldn’t use it on most of the existing and popular Galaxy smartphones in the market. Android 4.3 is required for the Galaxy Gear to work, and that’s rather unfortunate since Samsung hasn’t really been famous for timely updates in the last two years. If you wanted to use that Galaxy Gear, you were really forced to buy a Galaxy Note 3 along with it, and some ...

AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom leaked

Even though the Galaxy Camera wasn’t able to prove much, the Nokia Lumia 1020 did. It wasn’t that the Galaxy Camera didn’t have a market; it was simply the fact that it wasn’t a better camera than most of the smartphones of its time once you compared the resulting photographs. Samsung obviously took notice, and we saw them take a stab at a better job with the Galaxy S4 Zoom, which we’d gladly call a “Galaxy S4 mini Zoom” instead, since it resembles the Galaxy S4 mini a lot more than its more-powerful sibling. Those of you interested in getting this ...

Mobile Lumia 1020 billboard gives Nokia last word on Samsung GS4 Zoom ad

When it comes to promoting your smartphone, you can spend all day extolling its virtues, educating the public as to its new features, and making the handset seem as attractive as possible. But for all you can say about how great your own phone is on its own merits, sometimes the most powerful messages come when you start challenging the competition. We’ve seen plenty of attack ads over the years, and while there have been some really great videos produced, some of our favorites have been when billboard ads start going up ...

It will be a while until the competition makes a camera better than the Lumia 1020

Yesterday, Nokia finally made one of the most leaked, rumored, and talked about phones official – the Lumia 1020. Ever since the 808 PureView was announced in February last year and it was discovered the Lumia 920 would come with an entirely different type of PureView camera, optical image stabilization instead of lossless digital zoom, Windows Phone fans have been dying for more PureView love. It’s not that the low-light performance of the 920 wasn’t great or that the phone was disappointing, but a phone with ...

I’d rather have a camera adaptor than a Galaxy S 4 Zoom

Smartphones are such a contradiction lately. There was a time when cellphones were big, because components were big, and then that time when these were so miniaturized that they were hard to use. Smartphones began in that miniaturization stage, and therefore, having a 2.5-inch display on a thick device was a standard. Fast-forward to today, and all we hear are “big”-inch displays and the famous phrase “thin and light”. Not everybody likes thin and light though. Some prefer the heft of a phone they can feel in their hands, and some even relate this feeling to their ...

Which zoom technology is best: lossless digital or optical?

Smartphone cameras are more important than ever. No longer are they cameras bolted onto the back of our phones for technicality reasons. They are legitimate cameras, capable of capturing impressive shots. And they give an entirely new meaning to the old saying “the best camera is the one you have on you.” In the last year or so, smartphone manufacturers have branched out and redirected a solid portion of their focus on image sensing. Nokia, for example, introduced PureView imaging technology with the 808 and Lumia ...

Pocketnow Weekly 049: Samsung keeps making stuff, we keep squawking about it (Samsung Premiere 2013)

In the food service industry, when you’re a server who’s been slammed with too many customers and can’t keep up with the demand, you’re said to be “in the weeds.” On a podcast, that same expression means something quite different. It means you’ve wandered so far from your intended topic (in this case, mobile technology) that you’ve found yourself in the far-flung wilderness talking about anything but (in this case, sports cars, British accents, and the adult film industry). But while we do spend a fair amount of time in OT land on ...

Samsung, stop calling every new phone a Galaxy S 4

Branding is more important than many people give it credit for. And if you have ever doubted its power or influence, look no further than Samsung for proof that branding does matter. Every Android phone Samsung releases these days bears the Galaxy branding. Every Windows device bears the ATIV branding. Between them, the flagship devices each use the S moniker (i.e.: ATIV S and Galaxy S 4). The Note line signifies any device with an S Pen. The Tab moniker is used to categorize high-end tablets without S Pens. And there are at least a dozen other branding terms Samsung uses for various ...

Samsung Galaxy and ATIV announcements, Instagram Video & more – Pocketnow Daily

Watch today’s Pocketnow Daily as we talk about Instagram Video, and what this means to the few that actually use Twitter’s Vine service. NVIDIA is next as the company is shaving-off some money from the price-tag of their NVIDIA Shield. Liquid Cooling is next as both Apple and Samsung are reportedly in advanced projects that will allow future iPhones and Samsung Galaxies to offer this technology. Microsoft and Nokia make the headlines next since rumors had them working on a Nokia buy-out weeks ago. We end today’s show talking about the Samsung Premiere event and all the ...

Pocketnow Weekly 048: Galaxy S 5 rumors meet Nokia EOS leaks in back alley, nasty knife fight ensues

Before we begin, we’d just like to say something to everyone who’s going to call us out for click-baiting with that “Galaxy S 5″ title: your allegations are completely founded and true. But look here: even though Galaxy S 5 rumors are (to say the least) premature and indicative of a serious problem with our nasty-fast industry -an issue we discuss on the air- they’re also important. That’s because, as unreliable and, frankly, stupid as they are, they also give us an opportunity to discuss the future of Samsung industrial design. And any opportunity we ...
