Here’s when OnePlus 8, 8 Pro, Nord software support will end

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

OnePlus is one of those few brands that has always offered support for its older flagships. The company promises two years of major Android updates and three years of security updates for its flagship devices. The same goes for its first-ever Nord. For the unaware, OnePlus launched a total of six smartphones in 2020 – two under OnePlus 8 series, one OnePlus 8T, and three under the Nord series. Out of these devices, the company promises three years of regular updates for four devices. Now, it has also published the end of software support dates for the phones launched in 2020.

It comes from the official ‘OnePlus Security Updates’ page (via PiunikaWeb), which mentions that OnePlus will end support for the Nord in July 2023. Further, the OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 5G, and OnePlus 8 Pro will be supported till April 2023. In short, the company will support these devices for exactly three years from their launch.  There is no mention of the OnePlus 8T, but we expect the company to end its support in October 2023 as it was launched in October 2020. The OnePlus 8T is likely to get one more major Android update from its 8-series siblings since it was launched with Android 11 out of the box, as opposed to Android 10 on the OnePlus 8, 8 Pro and the OnePlus Nord.

Notably, not all OnePlus smartphones are treated equally. After all, you are paying a premium for updates. Hence, the budged OnePlus Nord devices, the Nord N10 5G, and the OnePlus N100 were already announced to get just one major Android update. These are expected to come to their end of the support cycle by November 2022 as OnePlus has promised two years of security updates for these smartphones.

    OnePlus 7T – $230 off

Coming to last year’s OnePlus 7T, it is currently available at just $369 at B&H Photo Video, which means you save $230 on its regular asking price of $599. Despite being a year old, the OnePlus 7T still packs quite a punch. You get a 6.55-inch FHD+ display with 90Hz refresh rate, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 Plus running the show, triple rear cameras (48MP primary + 12MP telephoto + 16MP ultra-wide), and a 3,800mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging. On the software side, you get the excellent OxygenOS 10 skin based on Android 10, and an assurance of long-term software updates.

OnePlus’ first flagship of 2020, the OnePlus 8 Pro was launched at $899 for the base variant and went up to $1000 for the 256 gigs model. On Black Friday, the latter was selling at a discount of $200. Now, Cyber Monday has upped its game, and the device is available for an all-time low of $750.

The OnePlus 8 Pro features a 6.78-inch big Fluid AMOLED display, which has a 3168 x 1440 pixel resolution at 513 PPI. It comes with a 120Hz refresh rate and 19.8:9 aspect ratio. It is covered with 3D Corning Gorilla Glass. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC, paired with X55 5G modem. It comes with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage.

On the optics front, the OnePlus 8 Pro sports a quad rear camera setup: a 48MP Sony IMX689 sensor with f/1.78 aperture and OIS + an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x hybrid zoom, an f/2.44 aperture, and OIS + a 48MP ultra-wide-angle lens with 120-degree field-of-view and an f/2.2 aperture + a 5MP color filter lens. The smartphone packs a 4,510mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging both wired and wireless. It gave me 6-7 hours of screen-on time while on QHD+ resolution at a 120Hz refresh rate. You can extend the battery life by changing the resolution, and read our full review here.

The phone is easily one of the best I’ve used without a cover. Still, I slapped on the in-box silicone case just to be sure. After all, I’m a clumsy man.

The OnePlus 8 Pro has a gorgeous display, good battery life, a decent set of cameras, and fluid performance. It comes in three color options – Glacial Green, Ultramarine Blue, and Onyx Black.  It is a sweet deal for $750 for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. Go grab it!

To review the gaming performance, I played Asphalt 9, COD Mobile, and PUBG Mobile on my OnePlus 8 Pro review unit. It runs the games at the highest graphics settings with no issues whatsoever. It ran PUBG at HDR graphics and Extreme framerates. The gaming experience was one of the best on an Android phone, thanks to the hardware prowess and 240Hz touch sampling rate, which makes everything seem swift.
