VIVO today launched the X50 Pro – a camera-centric device that has a unique gimbal-style camera for stabilization – in China. But if you were holding your breath for the new VIVO phone to make it outside the Chinese market, there is some good news for you.
The smartphone-maker has told Engadget that it will launch the X50 Pro for the international market in the second half of 2020. While the company didn’t reveal any specific region and market-wise launch schedule, we do know that the X50 Pro will make its way to the Indian market soon.
As for the specs, the VIVO X50 Pro features a 6.56-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and the Snapdragon 765G chip at its heart. At the back, you’ll find a 48MP primary camera, a 13MP portrait lens, an 8MP telephoto camera with a 5x optical pericope mechanism, and an 8MP wide-angle snapper. A 4,315mAh battery with 33W fast charging keeps the whole thing running.
The Government of India is dropping clauses including the evaluation of plant and machinery to be brought from China and South Korea. These were mainly opposed by Apple. It paves way for the company, and others including Foxconn, Samsung, OPPO, Vivo, and more to increase local production using the product-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.
Recently, many companies have been looking to shift parts of their production to more-competitive Asian countries, like Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. In light of the constantly-developing and changing economic climate in China, the step has been taken in a vow to attract more US investment. It makes India more attractive as a partner in the so-called “China plus one strategy”.
Other amendments to PLI rules include lowering the excessive amount of business information the government previously required beneficiaries to share and clauses permitting the Empowered committee to unilaterally change investor rules.
For reference, PLI is an incentive of 4% to 6% on incremental sales (over base year) of goods manufactured in India, covered under target segments, for a period of five years.
If the manufacturers want to benefit from the said incentive, they will have to produce high-end phones (with freight on board value of more than $200) of more than INR 4,000 crore (1 crore is INR 10,000,000) for the base year. It will have to be followed by INR 8,000 crore, 15,000 crores, 20,000 crores, and 25,000 crores, for the next four years, respectively.
Apple is said to benefit from the new PLI conditions as its contract manufacturers Wistron and Foxconn could soon be shifting a significant portion of iPhone production to India.
Ahead of the June 1 launch, Vivo has gone ahead and listed the Vivo TWS Neo, its latest pair of true wireless earphones on the official site. The listing also confirms some of the specifications. As of now, only a placeholder price is listed.
The Vivo TWS Neo are listed to come with 14.2mm drivers and support for the Qualcomm aptX Bluetooth codec. Moreover, there are some equalizer settings detailed, which will likely be controlled through an app for the earphones.
The earpiece looks identical to the AirPods. An earlier trailer has shown the device in white and dark blue colors with a matching charging case to go with them. The charging case has a round button and notification LED on the front face. It is expected to be priced around CNY 999 (~ Rs 10,600).
The Vivo X50 and X50 Pro are scheduled to launch on June 1 in China. However, the renders of both devices have already leaked online. Now, a trustworthy leakster from China has shared the key specifications of the Vivo X50.
The handset is said to feature a flat 6.56-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2376 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. It will come with an in-display fingerprint sensor. It could be powered by the Snapdragon 765G SoC.
On the optics front, the Vivo X50 is tipped to sport a 32MP Samsung GD1 selfie shooter. It will come with a quad rear camera that could include a 48MP Sony IMX598 sensor + a 13MP Samsung S5K3L6 lens + an 8MP OmniVision OV08A10 telephoto sensor + an 8MP Hynix Hi846 ultrawide lens.
It may pack a 4,315mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging. The phone is rumored to come with a 3.5mm audio jack and an AK4377a Hi-Fi audio chip.
VIVO has today quietly launched another mid-range smartphone – the VIVO Y70s. Notably, the latest offering from VIVO is powered by Samsung’s new Exynos 880 chipset, which also adds 5G support to the VIVO Y70s. The phone looks generic front the front, but the company has opted for a vertical stripe pattern on the glossy real panel to give it some identity.
The VIVO Y70s offers a 6.53-inch FHD+ display with a punch-hole design and packs a 4,500mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. The triple rear camera setup includes a 48MP main camera that supports 4K video capture. The fingerprint sensor is embedded inside the recessed power button, but face unlock support is there as well.
VIVO Y70s specifications

6.53-inch FHD+ (2340 x 1080) 19.5: 9 aspect ratio 90.72% screen-to-body ratio 394 ppi pixel density 1500: 1 contrast ratio
The VIVO Y70s costs ¥1,998 (~$280) for the base 6GB+128GB version, while the variant with 8GB RAM will set you back by ¥2,918 (~$410). Pre-orders are now live and sales will commence on June 1, but there is no word on availability in the international market.

Here’s your first official look at the VIVO X50 and X50 Pro
Oh so you thought the Galaxy S20 had a big camera hump? Well, vivo has been teasing their new X50 Pro which brings a gimbal like main camera. The company just released a new poster of the phone which shows the quad camera module with the huge main sensor. This main camera is a Samsung 50MP ISOCELL GN1 Sensor which comes with Dual Pixel PDAF tech for faster focusing, it basically rotates on it’s axis like a gimbal for better stabilization. The other cameras include a periscope, and most likely a wide angle and a macro camera. We’re expecting the vivo X50 lineup to launch on June 1.
ASUS ROG Phone III and ZenFone 7 to debut around July: Report
Back in February Qualcomm gave us a list of phones that would bring the Snapdragon 865 and, that list included two ASUS phones. It looks like both of those phones are ready to launch according to a new report from Taiwan which claims that the ROG Phone 3 and the ZenFone 7 will either in Q2 or early Q3 of 2020. Going by last year’s launch date, if they do launch in July or August they will be late by a couple of months when compared to their predecessors but, the market isn’t in the same state as it was last year. The company is currently targeting a 30-50% growth in sales for the ROG Phone 3. We’ll keep you posted in case we get more leaks.
Second-gen Moto Razr foldable phone could be launched in September
We all know how excited I was for the Moto RAZR last year, and we all know how that turned out. Well, according to Lenovo’s South African GM, the company is already working on a second generation device and it is supposed to come out in September. He actually mentioned the words “generation two” twice during a podcast while talking about the RAZR. Leaks will most likely start coming in soon and we hope it brings better specifications for the price tag, nostalgia can only go so far.
Apple may have started the production of the new AirPods Studio
A new DigiTimes report claims that we’ll be getting Apple’s AirPods Studio sooner rather than later. The report mentions the fact that Apple will be dropping the wired earphones from the iPhone 12’s box like we covered yesterday. It also mentions that Cupertino will resume regular shipments of the AirPods 2 in the second half of this year, which we wonder if it has anything to do with the move of production to Vietnam, but that does match the timing of the possible AirPods Studio. The company has apparently already started production for these and we could see an announcement at WWDC and they might cost $350.
Story of the day:
We may get a Periscope camera in the Samsung Galaxy Note 20+
The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 could’ve appeared in some hot looking renders
We recently got some sketches for the Galaxy Note 20′s design from Ice Universe. Now we got the first renders which were made based on that leaked design. The phone looks pretty similar to the Note 10 from the front with the very boxy design but it does bring some changes. The camera on this one has a larger hump, like the one on the S20 Ultra, the buttons are also on the right side and the S Pen was moved to the left. Like seriously, common sense changes. Now, these aren’t the official renders just yet but, this gives us a pretty good idea of what it might look like according to the sketches. Galaxy Club just found some new information and they claim that the Note 20+ will most likely bring a periscope camera. It isn’t clear if it will be the same one on the S20 Ultra and some other rumors claim that it won’t bring 100X zoom, but it pretty much explains the large camera hump for this phone as well.
VIVO is going to unveil the X50 series flagship phones on June 1, but the company has another surprise in its bag for fans. The Chinese smartphone maker has released an official teaser video for its VIVO TWS Neo true wireless earbuds, and from the looks of it, they look like another AirPods wannabe.
The earpiece looks identical to the AirPods, and the only discernible difference we could spot was the slightly different curvature on the upper part of the stem. The trailer shows the VIVO TWS Neo in white and dark blue colors with a matching charging case to go with them.
Talking about the charging case, it has a round button and notification LED on the front face, while its pebble-shaped design looks a lot like the one that ships with Google’s Pixel Buds 2. Unfortunately, there is no word on the features, specifications, or how much the VIVO TWS Neo earbuds will cost.
VIVO recently started teasing its upcoming X50 series phones and the huge gimbal-style camera on it that is promised to deliver a superior stabilization output. Now, VIVO has released an official poster, giving us our first glimpse of the VIVO X50 and X50 Pro’s glass-and-metal sandwich design.
The VIVO X50 Pro can be seen packing four cameras, with the huge gimbal-inspired primary snapper sitting at the top. The main camera will reportedly use Samsung’s new 50MP ISOCELL GN1 sensor, which comes with the Dual Pixel PDAF tech for faster focusing. There is a periscope camera lens at the bottom and two other sensors above it, likely a wide-angle and a macro camera.
As for the VIVO X50, it only has three cameras. The one at the top is the familiar gimbal-style camera with a huge opening and two other lenses below it. Notably, it misses out on the periscope camera that we see on its Pro sibling. We’ll get to know more about the two VIVO X50 series phones as the company releases more teasers ahead of its June 1 launch.
Vivo announced today that it will be launching the X50 5G next month. The handset will go official in China on June 1.
The company hasn’t revealed any details of the device yer. However, an image on Vivo’s official China site teases the smartphone as “professional imaging flagship” (machine translated).
The Vivo X50 5G is tipped to sport a punch-hole display. On the back, it could feature a rectangular camera setup.
The company is likely to tease more of its features leading up to the launch.
Vivo Y70s could be a new upcoming Y-series smartphone from the company. The device has been spotted on Geekbench with an unannounced chipset.
The listing shows a Vivo phone with model number ‘vivo V2002A’. It is expected to be the Vivo Y70s and it is listed to be powered by the Exynos 880 SoC with a base frequency of 1.79GHz. The phone runs on Android 10 and features 8GB of RAM.
As per the tipster Digital Chat Station (directly translated), the Exynos 880 chipset is a 5G compatible SoC with two Cortex-A77 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.79GHz.
