Motorola Moto X 2014 – After The Buzz, Episode 41 (Video)

Most new device launches go the same way: usually the press gets review units before they’re widely available, and we get to use them for a few days -or a week if we’re lucky- as we work on our review. Then press day arrives. The embargo on media coverage lifts, and everyone posts their reviews and videos at the same time. It’s a huge frenzy, commenters go nuts, and it’s a giant explosion of frantic opinion-sharing activity. For about … a day. And then it all goes away. Sure, there’s followup coverage as people find bugs and hidden features, but after that initial blast, not many ...

Motorola Lollipop update prepared for all 2013 and 2014 phones; coming “really soon”

There is absolutely no need to recap Motorola’s efforts related to the Android 5.0 Lollipop update; instead, we’ll just praise the company for being among the first ones to deliver Google’s latest and greatest to its current devices. However, those who own older models are not enjoying the Lollipop dessert just yet, but the company is getting there, according to Motorola’s Luciano Carvalho who took some details on the progress to his Google+ page (embedded below).According to the post, Carvalho reassures everyone that Motorola is working hard on updating 2014 and ...

Motorola announces Moto X Pro for the company’s return to China

It’s coming up on one year since we first got the surprise news that Google was unloading Motorola and planning to sell the company off to Lenovo. Having just seen the arrival of the very attractive latest round of Motorola handsets, including the Moto X and Moto G, we found ourselves the slightest bit nervous, but reassurances from the companies involved suggested that things would largely be business as usual: Motorola focusing on sales in the West, with Lenovo keeping its attention on Asia.

Most exciting things of 2014

As usual, at the end of every year, we’re looking back at what happened over the course of twelve exciting months — that got us a lot of extraordinary products and services. We not only do this because it’s fun and important to recap some crucial events, but also because we usually also look at the future, trying to anticipate what the next year will bring us; and, in order to realistically try to predict things from the future, we need to know what happened in the past.So far, we looked at what we think were the

Moto X (2014) durability report: life on a leather phone (Video)

It’s not every day that a phone comes with a leather backing option. But Motorola has gone ahead and done just that with its flagship this year, adding to last year’s already-out-there wood and plastic options in a unique way. One immediate concern voiced by skeptics was the possibility that the leather may not hold up over time, while others suggested that the material would age beautifully just like a good leather watchband. Now that we’re a few months in with our own leather Moto X device, we’re ready to let you know just how well it’s aged in our full Moto ...

Nexus 6 vs Moto X: it’s a debate playing itself out in browser tabs, retail stores, and fevered brains across the nation – one made more difficult by their shared ancestry and aesthetics. Pocketnow Black Friday deal roundup: smartphones, tablets, wearables galore

It’s that time of year again: bargain-hunters bundle up for a long night out in the cold, armed with a vacuum flask full of coffee and a checklist of the stores they’ll be hitting. Retail employees let out a resigned sigh as they prepare to begin a single shift that starts somewhere around Wednesday afternoon and lasts through Saturday morning. Moto X 2014 Lollipop update hitting (some) carrier variants

A couple weeks back, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update explosion began, with both OEMs and Google beginning to make the new software for their own phones (or for their Nexus models) available. Motorola even beat Google with confirmation of updates for the new Moto G and Moto X, but not without a major limitation: that 2014 Moto X Lollipop update was only for the unlocked Pure Edition, meaning that if you picked the phone up through a carrier you were out of luck. Well, “temporarily inconvenienced” ...

Motorola formally announces Android Lollipop updates: 2014 Moto X Pure Edition, Moto G

Motorola is not wasting any time when it comes to making Android 5.0 Lollipop updates available for its might-as-well-be-stock-Android smartphones. Last week we first got word that updates for certain of the manufacturer’s handsets were already coming out – and specifically the 2014 Moto X Pure Edition. Moments later we learned of Lollipop release notes on the company’s site for the 2014 Moto G, but all this excitement quickly hit a wall when it started looking like this was all just a ...

Moto X beats Nexus 5 with Android 5.0 Lollipop update (sorta)

Holy crap. We know that Motorola, with the pared-down, close-to-pure-Android experience it’s been delivering for its latest smartphones has been one of the leaders of the pack when it comes to getting out Android system updates, but this… this? Overnight we shared with you news that a rather polished-looking Android 5.0 build for the 2014 Moto X had leaked, suggesting that Motorola wasn’t too far off from formally releasing an update to the public. That might have had you thinking ...

With Motorola’s recent history of lightning-fast Android OS updates, we’re expecting Android 5.0 Lollipop updates to show up for the company’s smartphone line in not long. We’re seeing some confirmation of the fact that Motorola’s hard at work on the updates with the image leaks today of the alleged Moto X 2014 Lollipop update, as well as a look at the alleged new camera app.The build exposed by Phandroid is about a week old, and has been circulating on Moto X test units since then. The new Moto X hits Verizon tomorrow, Moto Maker and all

Unlike last year’s Moto X, which ultimately saw support from all the major carriers here in the US, the new 2014 Moto X won’t be quite so ubiquitous. Sprint’s out of the running this year, leaving the other players to pick up the slack. We saw pre-orders for the smartphone open a while back, and early ones – at least on AT&T – should have already shipped out to customers. Tomorrow begins a new ...
