Galaxy Tab S7, our favorite Android tablet is selling for $150 with trade-in

The Black Friday deals are in full swing, and Samsung is jumping on the bandwagon too. It has discounts on several phones, TVs and tablets. The Galaxy Tab S7, which I quoted as “my favorite Android tablet” in our review is down from the usual price of $650. Moreover, Samsung is providing an extra $50 instant credit with its trade-in process.

As part of the trade-in, you can avail up to $400 instant credit and grab the Galaxy Tab S7 for as low as $150! Samsung is providing the highest instant discounts on the trade-in of the Galaxy Tab S6, Galaxy Note 10 series, Galaxy S10 Plus, iPhone 11 series, and the iPhone XS series. You’ll get a trade-in discount plus an instant rebate of $100.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 sports a full metal build with brushed metal sides. It feels sturdy in the hand. The weight is distributed well enough to let you hold it in one hand while reading an eBook or browsing through the web. It features an 11-inch display that is housed within slim bezels. While the Plus variant gets an AMOLED display, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 features an 11-inch LCD. It comes with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600, DCI-P3 color range, and a 120Hz refresh rate. It is color-rich, vivid, and bright.

Galaxy Tab S7

The device comes with AKG-tuned quad speakers that support Dolby Atmos. It is loud, and the sound is clear. Plus, the S-Pen comes right in the box with the Galaxy Tab S7. It sports a new design which makes it more comfortable to use. The low latency coupled with the 120Hz refresh rate makes my Surface Pen look ordinary. Further, Air Actions have been expanded to Smart select, Screen write, and more. What’s amazing about these is you can use them on any screen. It ships with Samsung’s OneUI 2.5 built on top of Android 10.

The tablet is powered by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC, paired with Adreno 650 GPU. You get 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage in the base variant. It packs an 8,000mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging. However, Samsung doesn’t bundle the 45W fast charger in the box as it comes with a 15W charger.

2021 iPad Pro may arrive with 5G mmWave support

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

We have received several rumors concerning a new iPad Pro refresh. Some claim that it will include new mini-LED displays, with different opinions about when they may launch. We have also heard rumors saying that these new devices will feature 5G connectivity, and the latest report seems to confirm these rumors.

The latest report from Digitimes claims that next year’s new iPad Pro lineup may arrive with 5G mmWave support. The publication believes that these high-end 12.9-inch iPad Pro would be the one to include this feature, with a possibility to see this technology extending to the smaller 11-inch model.

Now, this will only happen if Apple manages to be successful in developing its own mmWave antenna in package modules for next year’s iPhone 13, as these AiP modules would also be able to arrive under the hood of next year’s iPad Pros.

“The self-sufficiency in design and development of AiP modules also means that Apple’s next-generation high-end iPad products to be released in 2021 may also come with mmWave technology, said the sources.”

Indeed, they don’t mention the iPad Pro per se, but it is clear that these are the higher-end iPads, since 5G is a feature that first made its way to premium devices because of its production costs.

Ming-Chi Kuo has also mentioned that these new mini-LED iPad Pros will begin production in the fourth quarter of 2020, so we are also expecting them to be launched sometime in the first half of 2021. It is believed that Apple is also getting ready to deliver six new mini-LED devices, out of which, we may also get a new 16-inch and a 14-inch MacBook Pro in the second half of 2021.

We have also received rumors that Apple may also be working on Intel variants of its new MacBooks, but why would you go for an Intel-powered Mac, if the latest M1 Macs are embarrassing almost every other laptop in the market.

Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 and Surface Pro 8 images leaked ahead of early 2021 launch

Microsoft has had a busy year in 2020, launching the Surface Book 3 convertible, the affordable Surface Laptop Go, the Surface Go 2 and a refreshed Surface Pro X. However, it appears that the company will start things a bit early next year by launching the Surface Pro 8 and the Surface Laptop 4. And surprisingly, we might already know what they look like.

Twitter user cozyplane had shared alleged images of the Surface Laptop 4 and the Surface Pro 8 from a Korean certification authority’s database. The leaked images suggest that Microsoft is not making any major design changes when it comes to the Surface Laptop 4 and the Surface Pro 8.

Microsoft is apparently retaining the signature metallic chassis with sharp lines and rounded corners. The alleged Surface Laptop 4 appears to be sporting a black paintjob, while the Surface Pro 8 rocks a familiar silver finish. However, it is unclear if the company has tweaked the port selection and or made any other hardware changes to its upcoming Surface portfolio.

January launch, both Intel and AMD chips for Surface Laptop 4

Adding more meat to the leak, Windows Central reports that the new Surface Laptop and Surface Pro series devices will be launched in January. Moreover, the two machines will come equipped with Intel’s 11th gen Tiger Lake processors with the new Intel Xe integrated graphics. Additionally, Microsoft will also sell an option powered by AMD processors, but details about the specific chip family are still unclear.

Microsoft will reportedly launch a new color option for the Surface Go 2 in the same month as well. The report claims that the company might unveil a black trim of the affordable convertible in January. Lastly, the company will finally start the market expansion of its first smartphone in a while – the Surface Duo. So far, the Surface Duo has been limited to the US market, and it appears that Microsoft is finally ready to take it global starting next year.

Apple shifts a portion of iPad and MacBook assembly from China to Vietnam

The ongoing US-China trade war has been an ugly saga, involving everything from app bans over data security concerns, trade prohibitions over espionage charges using telecom equipment, and raised tariffs that have thrown the future of many companies into jeopardy. The latest company to face the heat is Apple, which has reportedly decided to shift the production of MacBooks and iPads to Vietnam, away from China. It must be noted that chief Apple supply partner – Foxconn – is only moving some iPad and MacBook assembly away from China, and not in its entirety.

“The move was requested by Apple,” a person familiar with the recent developments was quoted as saying by Reuters. “It wants to diversify production following the trade war.” The major shift is reportedly inspired by encouragement from the US government to shift production away from China, prompting Taiwanese firms to look at other destinations such as Vietnam, India, and Mexico to continue serving their deep-pocket US partners such as Apple.

Foxconn is headed towards Vietnam at Apple's request

“Foxconn is building assembly lines for Apple’s iPad tablet and MacBook laptop at its plant in Vietnam’s northeastern Bac Giang province,” the report added. Foxconn’s new assembly line in Vietnam for making MacBooks and iPads is said to become operational in 2021’s first half. However, it is unclear how big a chunk of iPad and MacBook assembly Foxconn is migrating from China to Vietnam.

Foxconn has not shared any details regarding the move, but the company’s latest $270 million investment for setting up a new subsidiary that goes by the name FuKang Technology Co Ltd is reportedly a part of the expansion plans in Vietnam. It is interesting to note that all iPads are exclusively made in China, so this would mark the first time that their assembly is being done out of the country.

Foxconn’s factory in Vietnam will reportedly be used to make TVs for Sony and a few other devices such as keyboards as well. However, Vietnam is not the only country that will serve the purpose of diversifying the production of Apple devices away from China. Foxconn is reportedly investing a billion dollars to expand its facility in India and bolster iPhone production in the country.

Apple, Xiaomi, OPPO and more hit by import hurdles in India: Report

According to a report, Apple’s latest iPhone 12 lineup, Xiaomi devices and other gadgets had a slow down in import due to India’s “tight control of quality clearances for electronic goods from China.” Reportedly, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), which typically processes applications within 15 days is now taking up to two months and longer. This is likely to affect the brands’ plans for upcoming devices in India.

The latest development comes from Reuters, which reports that BIS started delaying approvals for China-made imports of devices like smartphones, smartwatches, and laptops. It is all part of the fallout from deteriorating ties with China after a border clash in June that left 20 Indian soldiers dead. It was only after that that the Indian government went on a Chinese app-ban spree, and banned apps like TikTok, CamScanner, and more, the latest of them being the popular game PUBG Mobile.

BIS tests and certifies product applications in India.

The report says that Apple India executives called on BIS to speed its approval up when the new iPhone 12 was caught in the delays. It did so by assuring that the company would continue to expand its assembly operations in India. We have reached out to Apple for a comment on the matter. For the unaware, Apple has assembly operations in India. But the iPhone 12 lineup is imported from China, where contract manufacturers make the bulk of Apple’s devices.

According to the report, around 1080 applications to BIS for laptops, tablets, and other devices are pending. Plus, 669 of those are waiting for more than 20 days. These include applications for devices from China-based factories of Wistron, Compal Electronics, and Hangzhou Hikvision. The BIS has also delayed smartwatch imports from Xiaomi and OPPO. We have also reached out to Xiaomi for a comment.

Meanwhile, an ARMWorldwide (company that manages Amazfit brand in India) executive confirmed on Twitter that the delay in the launch of new smartwatches from multiple brands is due to the delay in BIS approvals since August 2020.

“While the BIS is delaying approvals for products like smartwatches, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is pushing companies to make these devices in India,” said one of the sources as per the report. It adds that Xiaomi was denied the special license to import roughly 30,000 units of TVs after India’s trade ministry restricted inbound shipments of TVs by requiring importers to get a special license in July 2020. Plus, Samsung has faced similar import hurdles.

Galaxy S21 might unlock using your voice, thanks to Bixby

Samsung is tipped to be prepping to launch its next flagship, the Galaxy S21 series earlier than usual. The smartphones could be launched in January, as opposed to the late February unveiling. Ahead of the launch, several leaks and rumors have revealed the specifications and features of the upcoming phones. Now, another feature leak says that Samsung could program Bixby to understand your voice as a biometric option.

Essentially, you'll be able to unlock the Galaxy S21 with your voice

The development comes from SamMobile, which reports that the Galaxy S21 series could launch running One UI 3.1 out of the box. Hence, it is likely to include new features that will be exclusive to the upcoming phones until One UI 3.1 is released for other Galaxy devices. And, one of these features might be the option to use Bixby Voice as a biometric method to unlock the phone.

To recall, Bixby had the ability to unlock the device and follow your commands after the “Hi Bixby” trigger. Moreover, it used to offer the option to set a voice password for hands-free device unlocking. However, these features were eventually baked out of the voice assistant, and cannot be found in Bixby any more. But the report goes on to say that One UI 3.1 will let you select Bixby voice unlock from the phone’s lock screen security settings. The exact details of how the feature works remain unknown.

The Galaxy S21 is tipped to feature a 6.2-inch FHD+ LTPS display. The upcoming phone lineup is said to sport a 120Hz refresh rate screen and be powered by the Snapdragon 875 / Exynos 2100 SoC. The specifications of the trio were recently leaked, and you can see them here.

Moto G 5G to be launched in India on Nov 30

A couple of days ago, it was being reported that Motorola prepping for the launch of two new smartphones in India. It is tipped to launch the Moto G 5G and Moto G9 Power. The two phones have already been unveiled in the European market earlier this month. The company did say that Moto G 5G will be coming to India, Latin America, Middle East, and Asia in the coming weeks. Now, we have an official launch date for the smartphone in India.

The latest development comes from Flipkart. The e-commerce site has a ‘coming soon’ page ready for the upcoming smartphone. It says that Moto G 5G will be “India’s most affordable 5G ready phone.” It’s amusing to me that brands are pushing 5G in India, where the 5G spectrum auctions are yet to take place. Anyway, the Moto G 5G will be launching at 12 noon on November 30 in India.

The 'most affordable 5G smartphone of India' comes at a time when 5G still seems a distant reality in the country.

While the teaser page doesn’t reveal much, we already know the specifications of the upcoming smartphone. The Moto G 5G features a 6.7-inch full-HD+ (1,080×2,400 pixels) LTPS display with 394ppi pixel density. It is powered by the Snapdragon 750G SoC, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card.

The smartphone sports a triple rear camera setup of 48MP primary + 8MP wide-angle + 2MP macro, and a 16MP selfie shooter. It packs a 5,000mAh battery with support for 20W fast charging. Further, it is priced at EUR 299.99 for the sole 4GB + 64GB storage model. This translates to around INR 26,500. We expect it to be priced below that in India.

Motorola is also tipped to launch the Moto G9 Power soon. It might be launched later. Perhaps, next month in the Indian market.

Twitter verification system is coming back in early 2021

Twitter paused its verifications program three years ago “after hearing feedback that it felt arbitrary and confusing to many people.” In June, it was reported that the company has started working on bringing back the verification system and that it plans to introduce an in-app verification request. This feature was said to let users apply for account verification and get the verified badge. Now, Twitter has confirmed that the verification program will be making its comeback in early 2021.

The company says it needs to update the verification policy with the help of its users. Hence, it is starting a brief survey on the draft verification policy. In a blog post, Twitter also wrote that it is working with local non-governmental organizations and its Trust and Safety Council “to ensure as many perspectives are represented as possible.” The company will not only be providing new verification badges but it will also remove verification from inactive accounts.

Aside from verifying profiles, Twitter will also start removing verification from certain accounts.

“We’ve also added proposed criteria to automatically remove verification from an account if, for example, it’s inactive or if the profile is incomplete, as well as grounds to deny or remove verification from certain qualified accounts that are found to be in repeated violation of the Twitter Rules,” wrote the company.

It says that it recognizes that there are many verified accounts on Twitter that should not be. Hence, it plans to start by automatically removing badges from accounts that are inactive or have incomplete profiles. This will help them streamline their work and expand this to include additional types of accounts over the course of 2021.

The public feedback process has already started. It will continue until December 8 of this year. The company will then review public feedback on this policy and train its teams on this new approach. Twitter mentions that its goal is to introduce the final policy on December 17, 2020.

Upcoming redesigned MacBooks might also have an Intel variant

Yesterday, we reported that Apple’s redesigned MacBook models are all set to debut in the second half of 2021. The laptops are tipped to be powered by in-house silicon as a part of the company’s two-year transition away from Intel processors across its Mac lineup. However, a new report claims that Apple might also launch Intel variants of its redesigned MacBooks next year.

Apple might not be done with Intel…just yet

The latest development comes from reliable leaker known as “L0vetodream” who took to Twitter to tip that redesigned MacBooks coming in the second half of 2021 will include models with both Intel and Apple silicon processors. The tweet was in reply to an article referring to the launch of redesigned MacBooks with Apple silicon in the second half of 2021.

In simple terms, the leakster says that the MacBook redesigns expected in the second half of 2021 will not be only for ‌Apple Silicon‌ models. This implies that the redesigned MacBooks will also come in Intel-powered variants.

The new Mac is matching or outperforming higher-end machines like the 16-inch MacBook Pro in some tasks.

For the unaware, Apple unveiled a slew of new products with the most crucial of them being its own ARM chip for Macs. It announced three Macs including the MacBook Air, Pro and the Mac mini. While the latter two are said to be close competitors to their Intel counterparts, the MacBook Air has surprised the reviewers with its excellent performance despite the fan-less design. It is matching or outperforming the higher-end MacBook Pro in some tasks.

Apple is already reported to announce a new mini-LED and a lower-priced iPad in 2021. The redesigned MacBooks could also feature mini-LED displays. For reference, mini-LED and OLED displays offer many similar benefits over the LCD displays. They provide higher brightness, improved contrast ratio, and increased power efficiency over the traditional LCD counterparts. The company is reportedly preparing its supply chain for the future mini-LED devices since July.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip successor might rock a 120Hz display and slimmer bezels

Fine, let’s now move on to news. If you tuned in yesterday, one of the things we talked about is that we would be getting the next Galaxy Z Flip, later than the Galaxy S21 unlike last year where we got them at the same event. Well, according to some new reports from the Elec this phone was actually delayed, mainly to push production for the Galaxy S21 and because of what we covered yesterday which said that Samsung doesn’t want new products to mess with their regular sales as the Galaxy Note might disappear. The report also adds that Samsung might launch anywhere between three to five foldables next year, maybe they’re adding more phones to each line-up with different price points. On another note (pun intended), a new leak from Ice Universe says that this phone will actually be called the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and it will bring an improved 120Hz display, narrower bezels and it will get a cheaper price tag. Now, we don’t actually know how cheaper yet but, if they really want this strategy to succeed, they should at least price this and the Z Fold 3, somewhat closer to the Note’s price point.

We have new images of the Samsung Galaxy S21 or the Galaxy S21+

And yes, let’s keep talking about Samsung but this time for the Galaxy S21 and I guess you can say we’re in the home stretch when it comes to leaks for this phone. We have some new case renders for either the S21 or the S21+ telling by this design. They show the flat display which will either be 6.2in or 6.7in depending on the variant, both rocking 120Hz display rates at FHD+, kind of a downgrade when compared to the S20. At the back you can also see the camera array which is significantly smaller than the Ultra’s rocking three cameras which consist of a 12MP main sensor, a 64MP telephoto and a 12MP ultra wide. A while ago we also had other case renders for the Ultra but we didn’t do a daily that day and, the thing about it is that all we can see is the camera array and not the display. We’re expecting an event to happen sometime around January 14 so let’s see, things should only get more interesting from here.

                Story of the day:

Redesigned MacBooks with Apple silicon are coming in H2 2021: Kuo

And finally the hottest news today have to do with Apple, the fact that we still can’t believe how good those M1 MacBooks are, and yet why you might wanna wait a little to buy. I mean sure, Cupertino just unveiled these new batch of computers, but the concerns of many are valid, they seriously look like the old ones in every way. It would make sense for anyone to want a re-design, and we also wonder what the next batch of Apple Silicon chips is gonna be able to do. Well, according to a new research note from Ming Chi Kuo, the next step in Apple’s two year transition away from Intel is redesigned MacBooks. Now, he didn’t really specify which models we’re getting, but he has previously said that we should expect a redesigned 16in and a 14in MacBook Pro with Apple Silicon that should launch in the second or third quarter of 2021. Based on other Kuo reports, we should also expect some new miniLED Macs and a lower priced iPad in the first quarters of the year. Now, when it comes to sales, he predicts that the demand for these M1 Macs is actually higher than expected, and the 12 Pro and Pro Max are actually stealing the show when it comes to iPhones as the demand for the regular 12 and the Mini is not as high. Finally, both Apple Watches are selling well thanks to the new health management functions and the improved design.
