We have new leaked renders of the upcoming Microsoft Surface Duo

We have been waiting for the arrival of the Microsoft Surface Duo for some time now. The device was announced last October, and it is expected to launch soon. Now, we have new leaked images, thanks to well-known leaker Evan Blass.

We have some new images of the Microsoft Surface Duo. This device appeared in leaked renders opened and closed. These images show us some of the device’s features, such as an inner selfie camera and a flash. We can also see the Google Search widget and the bottom dock of the left screen holding Microsoft’s Edge, OneNote, and Outlook. On the right screen, we can see Google’s Phone, Messages, Camera apps, and the Play Store and more Microsoft Apps.

We can also see a split shortcut with the Edge and OneNote apps, which would open, one at each screen, to take advantage of both screens at the same time. This is a new feature called “app groups,” which will let users create a pair of apps that are often used together so that they can be launched quickly. Blass also mentions that this is an AT&T model, even though there are no visible brandings on the device.

We can expect this device to launch soon, as it was recently spotted at the FCC, and it has also received its Bluetooth certification. It is also supposed to include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and 6GB RAM, and we may even get advanced Stylus support.

OnePlus 8T could’ve been spotted at Geekbench

Yesterday we talked about how OnePlus will be launching a different Nord for North America later this year but, it looks like they’re focusing on the 8T already. It just went through Geekbench, revealing the new model number and some of the specs. It looks like it will be powered by the Snapdragon 865 SoC, it’ll pack 8GB o RAM and this variant is already running Android 11. Sadly, by this benchmark we can’t really tell if this is the regular 8T or the Pro, or if it’s the Snapdragon 865 or the 865+. Leaks should start coming in soon as we usually get these around October and November.

Microsoft’s Surface Duo will reportedly begin shipping in the week of August 24

Recently the Microsoft Surface Duo went through FCC and Bluetooth SIG certifications which usually means we’re getting closer to the launch date and, it looks like that might be the case. According to a new leak from Twitter, the Duo has started production and will beginning shipping to consumers on the week of August 24th. We were originally expecting it to come out for the holidays but, these certifications recently popped up and multiple Microsoft executives have been showing it off on social media so, this time line makes sense. The leaked specs still include two 5.6in AMOLED displays, the Snapdragon 855, 6GB of RAM, up to 256GB of storage and a 3460 mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G pre-orders are now live with a $650 credit offer in tow

You may get a free pair of Galaxy Buds Live with Galaxy Note 20 Ultra pre-orders

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 may arrive on September 18

Let’s move on to Samsung as, and we have a lot to cover. First, pre-orders for the Z Flip 5G have begun in the States. These pre-orders will go on until August 6th and if you have an eligible device, you can get up to $650 in trade-ins, meaning you can get this phone for $800. Samsung is also adding six months of Spotify Premium, YouTube Premium and more. Speaking of pre-orders, we have some leaked coupons on Twitter that apparently are from Indonesia. The coupon basically says that if you purchase the Note 20 Ultra you’ll be getting an e-voucher to get the Galaxy Buds Live or the Buds+ for free. The coupon also reveals that the Buds Live will cost around $179 and that pre-orders will run from August 6th through August 19th. Finally, we have a new report with an alleged launch date for the Z Fold 2 and a price tag as well. The report mentions that Samsung and their Korean partners have agreed that September 18 will be the launch date for the Z Fold 2 but, you shouldn’t expect a price cut. The Korean price amounts to $2006 which means customers can expect the same $1980 we had for the original Fold. Oh, and remember that Thom Browne Edition we talked about yesterday? Yeah that will apparently be $3350.

Apple confirms the iPhone 12 series will be delayed by a few weeks

Qualcomm hints at a slight delay in the debut of Apple’s 5G iPhones

iPhone 12 lineup and new iPads could launch in October

We know that Apple’s launch timeline is a mess right now, at least when it comes to leaks. A couple of days ago we covered some leaks from Twitter that claimed that we might be getting an online event on September 8th where we would be getting the iPhone 12 line, the new Apple Watch, a new iPad and even AirPower. Now, Qualcomm just shared their quarter earnings and in their Q3 report, they underlined a potential effect on their revenue forecasts due to the “impact of the delay of a 5G flagship global phones” which analysts believe is the iPhone 12. And, this is no secret as Ming Chi Kuo has been predicting a delay for the mmWave iPhones for a long time now. However, Qualcomm’s CFO did say that the delay might be brief as it is only a partial delay. Now, we got a new tweet from Jon Prosser where he claims that the iPhone 12 and new iPads will be coming in October, going along with the delay Qualcomm reported. We’re not sure if this means that we’ll be getting the event until October or, if it’ll get announced on September 8th and we’ll have to wait.

Story of the day:

Google Store teaser hints that the Pixel 4a is finally arriving on August 3

A couple of days ago, Jon Prosser leaked that the Google Pixel 4a would be happening on August 3rd after countless delays. Well, today Google just added a “lorem ipsum” page to the Google Store which is actually a puzzle. After you solve this puzzle, it reveals the words “The Google, Just What You’ve Been Waiting For Phone” along with the August 3 date on top of the phone’s silhouette, FINALLY. The lorem ipsum text also reveals the words “Video Chat”, “Lowlight Capture”, “Blur Bokeh”, “Megapixel”, and “Long Lasting Battery”. Just for context, we started covering leaks of the Pixel 4a back in December, and once the pandemic hit it was delayed numerous times. This phone is expected to bring the Snapdragon 730, a 5.81in OLED display, 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. There’s no word on the XL variant other than those sketchy leaks we got some time ago so, we assume that it won’t happen next week.

Pocketnow Daily: Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra Price: Seriously? (video)

The Google Pixel 4, Apple’s latest iPad Air and more on sale today

Deals. Let’s change it up a bit today and start with the Pixel 4. It’s currently $120 off, leaving the 64GB variant for $680. The 4XL is also getting a $110 discount, leaving the entry level variant for $790. The latest 10.2in iPad is $30 off, leaving the Wi-Fi only, 128GB of storage variant for $399 shipped. The LG G8 ThinQ is also down from it’s original $840 price tag, and you can find it for as low as $500 shipped on Amazon. We also have more deals on GoPros, Acer Headphones, iPad Minis and more.

Intel’s 7nm product transition delayed to 2022

Let’s talk about Intel as, they have quite a mess. The company is way behind on launching their 7nm chips and it looks like they got more delays in the pipeline. They just revealed their quarter earnings for Q2 and with that they announced that their 7nm chips will be delayed by another 6 months and may now release until late 2022 or early 2023. This is a total of 12 months later than the original roadmap they presented. According to their CEO, they found a “defect mode” in their new process causing yield degradation issues. Their Vecchio GPUs and their Server CPUs were also affected and will now launch later as well. We’ll keep you posted but, they better hurry up as AMD already moved on to 7nm and Apple Silicon will be working on 5nm processes. Oh, and who remembers Sly DelVecchio in Passenger 57… I know, I’m old.

Microsoft Surface Duo launch might be around the corner as it gets Bluetooth certification

Speaking of delays, let’s move on to Microsoft. We’ve been waiting for the Surface Duo for a crazy 10 months but it looks like we’re finally getting closer. It just went through an FCC certification, testing the two screens and network capabilities. According to a report, the confidentiality agreement ends on October 29th and it is set to be released for the holidays. However, it just went through a Bluetooth SIG certification to ensure Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. The listing mentions a dual-screen device which went live on July 24th. These two certifications usually happen when the device is about to come out so there is a possibility that we could get it in the next following weeks. The leaked specs haven’t change and we’re still expecting it to bring a Snapdragon 855, 6GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and a 3460 mAh battery.

Apple iPhone 11 is now being made in India, could get a price cut soon

We got some pretty good news for our Indian audience. Obviously given all the trade war mess that has been going on, if you remember, Apple shifted production of the iPhone XR to India about 9 months ago. Now ,the Minister of Commerce and Industry just tweeted out that Foxconn will be moving the production of the iPhone 11 to India as well and that’s actually a good thing. This allows Apple to avoid a 20% tax that is needed to import the phone from their global facilities and now, prices might go down. The iPhone 11 is already listed in the Indian Prime Day which will happen on August 6th and 7th. Apple’s suppliers are apparently making huge investments in India as consumer demand has been growing as of late.

It seems that we could soon get Face ID in future Macs

We’ve been talking about a redesigned iMac for quite some time now, and it looks like that redesign means we’re getting some new features. The guys over at 9to5Mac have found some references to Face ID in the macOS Big Sur code. The latest beta includes an extension called “PearlCamera” and Pearl has been Apple’s code for Face ID ever since they introduced it with the iPhone X. Inside the extension we get references to “FaceDetect” and “BioCapture”, suggesting that the next Macs might bring a TrueDepth camera. We assume that this might come to the iMacs as, they’re supposed to bring iPad Pro bezels which have enough room and because, MacBooks currently bring Touch ID which doesn’t really make sense for an iMac, considering the keyboard comes separate. As of right now we have no leaks on it, but we should get some if it is true.

Story of the day:

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 might ship with a 25W charger in the retail package

Here are Galaxy Note 20 & Galaxy Note 20 Ultra camera details

We keep on getting more and more leaks of the Galaxy Note 20 the close we get and no guys, I don’t have the phone. Today we have some new leaks from Twitter with some detailed camera specs for both phones. It gets kinda technical so we’ll just give you the essential details. The regular Note 20 will basically bring the S20+’s camera array and this is not a bad thing, I think that was the best camera of the current S20 lineup. We have a 12MP main sensor, a 64MP telephoto with 3x zoom, a 12MP wide angle and a ToF 3D depth sensor which we thought they were ditching. It’ll apparently be capable of shooting up to 8K at 24fps, 4K at 60fps, 1080p at 240fps and 720p at 960fps. Moving on to the Ultra, it’ll bring a 108MP primary, a 12MP wide angle, and a 12MP telephoto as well as the ToF 3D depth sensor. The video capabilities are the same as the Note 20 but we do expect this phone to achieve 50x zoom with the periscope lens. Another tweet from the same source also claims that both of these phones will ship with a 25W charger in the box. These leaks also show that the Note 20 might start around the $999 mark and the Ultra somewhere around $1200. With yesterday’s leaks that the regular Note 20 might be somewhat of a Lite variant, that $999 price tag doesn’t seem to appealing. Microsoft Surface Duo launch might be around the corner as it gets Bluetooth certification

Earlier this week, Microsoft’s Surface Duo was spotted on the US FCC database, indicating that the highly-anticipated foldable device is inching closer to its launch. Days later, the device has now received the Bluetooth SIG certification for offering Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connectivity.

The Bluetooth SIG database lists the model number as 1930 and clearly describes it as a ‘dual-screen device’. The listing went live on July 24, and given the previous track record of smartphones getting the certification and launching soon after, we expect Microsoft to unveil the Surface Duo in the upcoming weeks.

According to leaks, the Surface Duo will employ Qualcomm’s now-old Snapdragon 855 SoC ticking alongside 6 gigs of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage. It will come equipped with a single 11MP (F/2.0) camera and a rather small 3,460mAh battery. The phone-tablet hybrid will feature two 5.6-inch AMOLED panels joined by a hinge that rotates all the way to 360-degrees.

Microsoft’s product chief Panos Panay again teases the Surface Duo in a candid shot

Microsoft’s phone-tablet hybrid, the Surface Duo, is one of the most hotly anticipated devices of 2020, partly due to its innovative foldable form factor, and partly because it marks the company’s return to the world of smartphones. While the Surface Duo is expected to debut in the fall season, Microsoft’s Chief Product Officer, Panos Panay, has again teased the upcoming device in a candid shot.

Panay can be seen using the Surface Duo in the dual-screen or tablet mode, with the device encased in what appears to be a protective case that predominantly shields the edges and also has a finger-rest on one side. Earlier this month too, Panay shared another image of him holding the device protected by the same case while replying to a Microsoft executive’s tweet.

The Surface Duo is rumored to come equipped with the aging Snapdragon 855 SoC paired with 6GB of RAM up to 256GB of onboard storage. It will feature two 5.6-inch AMOLED panels with a resolution of 1800×1350 pixels and a 4:3 aspect ratio each. The device will run a heavily skinned version of Android 10 and disappointingly, it will miss out on both 5G and NFC support.

Microsoft is reportedly working on Surface Duo V2 already, and it makes sense

Microsoft’s Surface Duo foldable phone is reportedly not too far away from launch, however, one aspect that has many excited fans worried is the dated hardware packed inside the device. But as per a new report, Microsoft is already working on an upgraded version tentatively called the Surface Duo V2. If true, this makes a lot of sense and also provides an insight into Microsoft’s vision for the future with its return to the smartphone world.

WindowsCentral reports that the Surface Duo V2 is already in the early stages of development and a team from Movial, that Microsoft has just brought in, will work on the device alongside the company’s in-house team. “Microsoft recently completed an agreement with Movial to hire employees across several offices as part of the company’s efforts to boost Windows and Android development efforts,” a Microsoft spokesperson was quoted as saying.

As per leaks, the Surface Duo will be powered by the old Snapdragon 855 SoC – which was launched back in December 2018 – ticking alongside 6GB of RAM and 64/256 GB of storage. There will be a single 11MP (F/2.0) camera on the device and a rather small-ish 3,460mAh battery will keep it running, which sounds severely under-equipped when it comes to powering the two 5.6-inch AMOLED panels on the device.

Those specs are outdated and underpowered now that we are halfway across 2020, especially for an ambitious project such as the Surface Duo. Yes, the Surface Duo will definitely make a splash upon its launch later this year – even though it may not find many takers due to the experimental phone-tablet hybrid form factor, a high asking price, or a combination of both – but we can’t help but feel a performance bottleneck preventing it from becoming a truly game-changing device upon Microsoft’s return to the smartphone game.

But with Surface Duo V2 already in development, it is quite likely that Microsoft will carry over the lessons and engineering expertise from the first-gen Surface Duo and put it to good use. At this point, not much is known about the second-gen Surface Duo, but there is some good news though. With Movial’s team joining Microsoft’s own, the work on software development and updates for the heavily-skinned Android UI running on the Surface Duo will get a much-needed boost.

From what we’ve already seen in the official teaser video and heard from Microsoft, the Surface Duo will run a deeply customized version of Android that will focus on leveraging the dual-screen form factor. From a user’s perspective, it appears to be a perfect marriage of great app ecosystem and versatility courtesy of Android with the productivity offered by Microsoft’s first-party apps such as the Office suite providing a transformative experience on the Surface Duo.

Hiring Movial’s team is a clear sign that Microsoft is serious about its comeback in the smartphone game by blending an innovative form factor and powerful hardware with a functional software that stands out and will keep receiving updates in the long run. And in the hindsight, it also provides Microsoft an opportunity to wipe off the blunder it made with its Windows Phone program that went from extremely promising to a huge disappointment – thanks in no part to the lack of a good app ecosystem, lack of carrier support, and not-enough OEM love – in a rather short span of time.

Microsoft is already at work optimizing Android 11 for Surface Duo: Report

Microsoft’s Surface Duo is one of the most exciting foldable products coming out later this year. Microsoft has already given us a glimpse of how it looks and some of its internal hardware details have surfaced online too, but a fresh leak suggests work on optimizing Android 11 for the Surface Duo is already underway.

As per a Windows Latest report, Microsoft is already working on Android 11 for the foldable device. And even though the Surface Duo will debut running Android 10 with Microsoft Launcher on top and a healthy dose of pre-installed in-house apps, it might receive the Android 11 update fairly quickly, possibly only a few months after its debut.

“The decision to go with Android 10 instead of the latest Android 11 has to do with the updated release timeline and possible compatibility problems,” the report adds. As per a previous leak, the Surface Duo will feature two 5.6-inch AMOLED panels joined by a 360-degree hinge, while Snapdragon 855 will tick under the hood paired with 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage.

Google testing low-latency gaming mode for its upcoming ‘Sabrina’ Android TV dongle

Earlier this month we covered how Google is working on a new Android TV dongle called Sabrina. According to a new report from XDA, this device might bring a low-latency gaming mode feature, meaning it’s a replacement for the Chromecast Ultra and not the regular Chromecast. Inside a pre-installed System app called “SabrinaService” there is a reference to a feature called “ALLM” which stands for Auto Low Latency Mode which is an HDMI feature that allows a console, PC or other devices to enter low-latency mode to provide a lag-free experience. This means Sabrina would automatically turn on this feature for either Stadia or video streaming services.

Leaked iOS 14 code shows iMac schematic with slimmer bezels

There’s been a lot of buzz around the changes we’ll be getting at this year’s WWDC, including Macs with ARM chips and a redesigned iMac. According to a new leak on Twitter, there’s a schematic in the latest iOS 14 code that shows the new iMac. The source put a picture comparing the old schematic to the new one and it pretty much looks like the Pro Display XDR. Based on the schematic the tipster did a render and he also said that it should look like the Pro Display XDR, let’s just hope it doesn’t cost the same and the stand actually comes attached to it.

Microsoft Surface Duo launch could be just weeks away

It looks like we won’t have to wait much for the Microsoft Surface Duo after all. We were expecting this product to launch by this year’s Holidays after the pandemic delayed the Duo, the Neo and Windows 10X in general. According to a new leak from Twitter, Microsoft wants to launch the Duo before the Galaxy Fold 2 comes out. This means we should get it some time during July as we’re expecting the Fold on August 5th. The tipster doesn’t specify a launch date but he does claim that the Surface Duo should start shipping in less than two months. Specs still haven’t changed, including a Snapdragon 855, 6GB of RAM and dual 5.6in displays.

Take a look at these alleged iPhone 12 molds and CAD images

Some new molds for the upcoming iPhones have emerged on Twitter. These are the pretty standard ones we get each year but, there’s some differences on these ones. First off, we have the four different models we’re expecting this year and they do show the new squared design which kinda mimics the iPad Pros. However, these seem to have a regular sized notch and not the smaller one we were supposed to get according to the leaks. The LiDAR sensor isn’t on the camera array as well but, that was the case for the iPad Pro renders. Of course these are just molds and we do get changes when the actual product launches.

Story of the day:

Google Pixel 4a delayed, again?

And finally the hottest, or should I say most WTF news of the day, let’s talk about Google’s hardware division. Like talk about shooting itself in the foot. So, if you remember, Google practically killed all of the hype for the Google Pixel 4a. So much buzz around the phone, and then a crazy delay. Like the Verge even put out an article titled “Where is the Pixel 4a?” Well and now, Jon Prosser is back with another update. According to his tweet, Google has delayed the phone once again. He claims that the launch will still happen on July 13th but the phone is now listed to be launched on October 22nd. Oh, and that’s only the black variant as the new “Barely Blue” is just gone from the listing. Thing is, if you’ve ever seen the Pixel 3a in black, you’ll know why we all went for the white and purple variants. It’s horrendous.

Microsoft Surface Duo launch could be just weeks away

Microsoft Surface Duo was originally scheduled to launch in time for Holidays 2020. But the pandemic forced Microsoft to postpone the launch of the Surface Neo and its Windows 10X operating system. The Surface Duo too was rumored to be delayed. However, the latest development says otherwise.

According to Zac Bowden of Windows Central, the Surface Duo’s release date is weeks away. He says that Microsoft wants to launch Surface Duo before the Galaxy Fold 2 is announced. And the Galaxy Fold 2 is tipped to be launched in August. Hence, the Surface Duo might be launched before August 5, and the shipping is said to start in less than two months.

Microsoft’s foldable phone could be powered by last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chip paired with 6GB of RAM, but variants with more RAM are also in the pipeline. Further, it will have dual 5.6-inch displays.

Microsoft Surface Duo could come with advanced Stylus support

We have recently seen the possible specs of the upcoming Microsoft Surface Duo, but new rumors provide information about the stylus features we may get. According to Windows Latest, this device will include advanced stylus integration and features that would better match the overall user experience found in other Surface devices.

It seems that the new Microsoft Surface Duo may include some exciting touch features. Apparently, its Android input stack has been programmed so it can enable touch input from the user’s fingers and the stylus at the same time. This feature is also supposed to work seamlessly at the same time and across both screens. The Surface Pen already recognizes different pressure levels, so Microsoft is trying to enable this feature in the Android platform as well.

Other features such as dragging files from one screen to the other would feel natural, and Surface-specific gestures such as double tap would let you take screenshots, or launch your desired app. This device is also supposed to launch with Android 10 later this year, but it would get the Android 11 software update rather fast.

T-Mobile will begin to sunset Sprint this summer for creating a unified brand

The T-Mobile and Sprint merger has been going on for a while now and it finally saw some completion on April 1st. The company made it clear that they would basically ditch the Sprint moniker and call it “The new T-Mobile”. At an investors event they just shared that they are planning a summer timeframe to start creating their unified strategy and simply advertising T-Mobile. If you are on Sprint, they did promise that users will remain on their carrier plans but they will eventually be moved to T-Mobile. What we do know is that you will start seing the Sprint brand disappear everywhere as of now, so don’t be surprised.

HTC could be prepping to launch wireless earbuds, images surface

Do you remember HTC? Well we’re still waiting on that flagship phone the company promised but, it seems they’re making some True Wireless Earbuds. These new earbuds are apparently called the HTC U Ear and they just appeared on the FCC website. The design… looks pretty similar to the regular AirPods, except for the fact that this is a glossy black color variant, which means they look like the Huawei Freebuds 3. We also get pictures of the case which also looks like the AirPods case but, the earbuds lie horizontally on the case instead of vertically like the AirPods.

OnePlus’ true wireless earbuds might be another AirPods clones arriving in July

Speaking of AirPods clones, we have a new leak of OnePlus‘ upcoming true wireless earbuds. The picture hints to a July release date and shows off a design that looks pretty much like AirPods except for a few details. The source also put out a different tweet which says “SOON” and the two O’s are earbud cases, and these actually look exactly like the new Pixel Buds case. We’ve also had other leaks from the same source which hinted to the OnePlus Z coming in July so it makes sense for them to launch together.

Microsoft Surface Duo leak reveals dated specs inside a foldable form factor

Microsoft announced the Surface Duo… last year, and it is slated to come out by the holidays this year. Now we have some more detailed and kind of underwhelming specs from Windows Central. It will reportedly feature two 5.6in AMOLED displays, with the 360 degree hinge. It will sadly be powered by the Snapdragon 855, a 3460 mAh battery, 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. There’s no NFC support, no 5G and it will apparently run a heavily skinned version of Android 10. It’ll bring a single 11MP f/2.0 camera which will also serve as the selfie camera. Like, unless Microsoft is pricing this bellow $1000, we wonder exactly who it’s gonna be for.

Story of the day:

US takes another step to block HUAWEI’s global chip supply, China warns of retaliation

Earlier this week we reported that the US was extending the ban on Huawei for another year but, they didn’t stop there. The US Commerce Department has announced plans to block Huawei’s access to global semiconductors shipments that come directly from US Sources. The main goal is to stop Huawei from using solutions provided by US companies. According to Reuters, right after the US announced these plans, China decided to hit back. They are warning the US of some retaliatory measures which would include putting US companies on their own “unreliable entities” list. China would impose this ban on companies like Apple, Qualcomm, Cisco and more. On a separate report, the President of the US plans to add more taxes on companies like Apple which manufacture their products outside of the US with the goal of having them manufacture in the US again. The current tariffs have already cost American companies around $46B and these new ones might force companies like Apple to raise prices if they don’t move their operation.
