Every now and then, we come across reports about the Apple Watch saving someone’s life, with advanced heart-related capabilities such as ECG receiving a lot of praise lately for helping detect conditions such as Atrial fibrillation (AFib). While Apple still suggests relying on approved medical devices for more accurate prognosis and diagnosis, a new study by Stanford University researchers concludes that the Apple Watch can be used as a reliable telemedicine solution for detecting cardiovascular diseases.
Titled ‘Activity data from wearables as an indicator of functional capacity in patients with cardiovascular disease,’ the study saw participants using an Apple Watch Series 3 and iPhone 7 running the VascTrac app over the course of 6 months. The participants, all 110 of whom were scheduled for vascular or cardiac procedures, were guided remotely to perform weekly at-home 6MWTs (6-minute walk test) via the VascTrac app, while the two devices collected data such as daily step counts.
The research paper also mentions that ‘smart device-based measurements, including both a 6MWT and passively collected activity data, provide clinically accurate and meaningful insights about functional capacity in patients with CVD (cardiovascular disease).’ During the test, the iPhone and Apple Watch were found to be capable of accurately analyzing ‘frailty’ with a sensitivity of 90%. The paper goes on to add that passive data collected at home was almost as accurate at predicting frailty – and thereby the risk of heart diseases – as was a home-based 6MWT.
“Our results show that passively collected data is almost as predictive as a home-based 6MWT at predicting traditional, clinic-based 6MWT results (AUC 0.643),” concludes the research. It goes on to add that data collected using devices like the Apple smartwatch can provide clinically meaningful and actionable insights in patients with CVD.
The key goal of the Stanford study was to show that wearable devices such as an Apple Watch and smartphones can be used to collect health data that can be clinically reliable. This is of critical importance, especially in these times when medical facilities and healthcare professionals are under extreme stress, and restrictions on free movement have made accessing medical facilities and appointments even more difficult.

The official news today begin with deals and yes, Samsung is still running their Discover Spring Event, and we’re actually getting weather to back that up. So, Galaxy S21 and the S21+ are still available for 100 bucks and the Ultra for 299, if you have an eligible device to trade-in. There’s also a special on deals of the day, which we’ll link to in the description in case you make it on time. Moving on to OnePlus, the OnePlus 8T is currently 200 dollars off, leaving it at 599. You can also go with the 8 Pro which is 300 dollars off, leaving it at 699. Moving on to Amazon, the Sony Xperia 1 Mark II is 150 dollars off, leaving it at 1050, I know.. Who even told Sony we can call that a deal? The OnePlus 7T is also 50 dollars off with a coupon, leaving it at just 380 which is a very solid pick. Of course we have more deals on other Samsung, OnePlus and Sony devices in the links in the description.
Let’s stick to official news but, move on to Huawei for a moment as, the company is still at it. I mean, even with the Android problems, their Windows business seems to continue just fine, cause they just launched the Matebook X Pro 2021. This one features a 13.9-inch “Ultra Full View” display that supports up to 3K resolution at 260 ppi but, it retains the same design as the previous generations. It brings a 91 percent screen to body ratio and still brings 10-point touch support. It’s powered by the latest 11th Gen Intel processors along with Iris X graphics, going from the Core i5 to the Core i7. When it comes to storage you get up to 1TB and Huawei is adding a new shark fin fan design as well as a vapor chamber for cooling. It brings a USB-A port, a headphone jack, 2 USB-C ports, and it promises to handle daily work tasks for 11 hours or 10 hours of browsing. Thing is, even if this has been my favorite laptop design for years, Is it just me or is it again not USB C type 4 or Thunderbolt? We’ll get you some more information on it soon.
But alright, let’s move the spotlight on to Google as they just announced something as well.. Something that’s actually late. The company is launching the Android Ready SE Alliance to make sure that new phones have the hardware to eventually replace your car and home keys and even your wallet. “SE” here stands for Secure Element, which would be the tamper resistant hardware your device needs for “Emerging User features” like mobile passports and their data to be protected. And I know, this sounds kinda confusing but basically Google launched this alliance in order to accelerate adoption of Secure Element Apps in order to allow you to have Digital Keys, Digital IDs, Digital Wallets and others in a safer way. We’ll keep you posted to see when any other major announcements like certifications and what not are made as Google claims they’re currently working on digital car keys, and mobile driver’s license with some OEMs already preparing Android Ready SE for their devices.
And finally, for the hottest news part one of two with Apple. I know it’s kinda of early but you’ll understand why ‘we’re splitting it into different segments. One for wearables and accessories and one for iPhones. Starting with the Apple Watch, we have a new report from Bloomberg that claims that the company is working on the launch of their first “rugged smartwatch” for either 2021 or 2022. To quote the report this is “aimed at athletes, hikers and other users who use the device in more extreme environments,” clearly wanting to hit Garmin hard. Apparently this watch is internally called the Explorer Edition and will of course have some tweaks based on durability and impact resistance by adding things like a rubberized exterior. Moving away from this for just a second, Everything Apple Pro released a new video with a ton of leaks, one of them being that AirTags have dimensions of 32 by 32mms and that they would be priced at 39 dollars. The reason we’re mentioning this right after the Apple Watch is because he also claimed that we could be expecting an Event or silent releases soon, where their source claims that we could expect 3 categories being Tablet, Wearables and Accessories. So if the Accessory is the AirTags, the Wearables are most likely the AirPods as we know any Apple Watch refresh will most likely not happen until the fall.
But ok.. Finally, again, for the second hottest news today let’s talk Apple, iPhone 13 and that Everything Apple Pro video where he gave us a ton of exclusive leaks from Max Weinbach. Starting with the design, he reiterated on the latest notch leaks we covered a couple of days ago that again, look like a 2 year old Android phone but, speaking of the notch Apple will be improving audio experience by using Beam Forming in the earpiece which is a nice addition. When it comes to the camera, we’ll be getting the same design but, the protruding rings should be getting smaller so, they won’t stick out as much and he also mentioned that the LiDAR sensor will stick to the Pro models. We’ll apparently be getting some automatic OIS correction mode where it gives you better stabilization and a Portrait Mode overhaul. Probably one of the most interesting updates is the color variants where we could be getting a Matte Black variant like we got in the iPhone 7, or sure the recent S21 Ultra, and it seems to have a special coating to address fingerprints. Another option seems to be an Orange/Bronze variant but that one is less likely to happen. Finally, he claims that the iPhone 13 mini will still happen with battery improvements thanks to the A15 chip.

Apple has continued to improve its smartwatch portfolio over the years, with the latest one – the Apple Watch Series 6 – adding the ability to measure blood oxygen saturation levels. However, one area where things haven’t improved much is battery life, as Apple’s latest-and-greatest usually lasts just over a full day of usage. However, the company might have a solution to fix the battery longevity on the Apple Watch by sacrificing the need for a dedicated haptic engine, or as Apple likes to call it, the Taptic Engine.
As per a patent filed before the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) that was spotted by the folks over at Apple Insider, Apple is experimenting with a moving battery element for producing haptic feedback instead of relying on a dedicated engine that takes up crucial space. Titled Portable Electronic Device Having a Haptic Device with a Moving Battery Element, the patent suggests that a dedicated haptic engine takes up space, and then some additional space so that it can move to provide the vibration feedback. However, it can be removed to fit in a larger battery to do its job.
“The haptic device may include a battery element electrically coupled to the display, a magnetic element, and a coil assembly fixed with respect to the enclosure and configured to induce an oscillatory movement of the battery element parallel to the display to produce the haptic output,” says the patent description.
Apple’s patent describes a ‘haptic device that moves a battery element in order to produce a tactilely perceptible pulse or vibration along an exterior surface of the device.’ As expected, the haptic output will be produced in response to a touch input received by the display that results in some graphical UI change on the screen, letting users know that their touch input has been registered.
Apple’s idea is definitely clever and might prove to be a major step towards improving the battery life of its upcoming smartwatches. However, do keep in mind that this is a patent filing we’re talking about here, which means the idea might never be implemented and fails to appear on an Apple Watch in the future.

Apple keeps working to improve every single one of its products. The company strives to give its users an excellent experience, great features, and fantastic products while it takes special considerations to help the environment. Some of these new ideas are good enough to become patents, and that’s exactly what we’re talking about right now. It seems that Cupertino is already looking for new ways to make future Apple Watch models thinner, and this patent explains how they could achieve it if they give another function to its batteries.
A new patent explains how Apple wishes to make its future Apple Watch models thinner. The first step would consist of removing the haptic feedback engine found in several Apple Watch models. However, this feature is crucial to achieving a satisfying user experience, and removing it may not be such a smart move. Hence, Apple could be trying to make the battery inside its smartwatches double up as a new haptic engine, as it describes a new “moving battery component” that would provide haptic feedback.
“An electronic device includes an enclosure having a transparent cover defining a touch-sensitive surface, a display positioned within the enclosure and below the transparent cover, and a haptic device configured to produce a haptic output along the touch-sensitive surface. The haptic device may include a battery element electrically coupled to the display, a magnetic element, and a coil assembly fixed with respect to the enclosure and configured to induce an oscillatory movement of the battery element parallel to the display to produce the haptic output. In other examples, the coil assembly may be coupled to the battery element and the first and second magnetic elements may be fixed with respect to the enclosure.”
Removing the haptic engine from a future Apple Watch would also allow Apple to give its users larger batteries, therefore better battery life. Whatever the case, we will have to wait and see if this patent ever makes it to a real working device, since not every patent makes it to a final product.

I play sports regularly. I own an Apple Watch band with a metal loop, but it just doesn’t feel right to wear while playing football. Hence, I was looking for the best Apple Watch sports band to purchase. But I’m not alone, and there are several people like me. Are you one of those as well? Are you a sportsperson looking for the best sports band for your Apple Watch? Or maybe sports bands are what you prefer in general. You’ve come to the right place.
There is a number of different bands from various makers out there, including some from Apple, which you can purchase to make your Apple Watch unique. The sports bands are made from different materials, with the most common of them being silicone. There are some bands that come with a TPU case for protection of the dial.
Whether you have the latest Apple Watch Series 6, Watch SE, or an older model, a smaller 40mm case, or the larger 44mm variant we’ve compiled a list of the best sports bands for your Apple Watch that you can purchase in 2020.
You must also keep in mind that you get what you pay for. But does paying more equal to a better product? No. However, not all bands are created equal. Two bands could have the same material but feel different on the wrist. That said, you get some of the best Apple Watch sports bands on this list.
My personal favorite is Spigen’s Rugged Armor Pro. It is because I need not worry about sliding in the football field and getting my Apple Watch scratched. It features an all-around scratch defense with shock-absorbing material. Moreover, it comes equipped with raised bezels around the screen for extra screen protection, which will help you keep the dial scratch-free. Plus, ruggedness doesn’t translate to a bad user experience. The sports band comes with convenient access to all watch features with fine cutouts. We recommend it to those who play rough sports.

Apple launched the Watch Series 6 at its Time Flies event recently. The new product comes with a familiar design but packs a host of new features. The biggest upgrade is the ability to measure blood oxygen saturation level, also known as VO2 Max reading. Moreover, it combines algorithms and sensor readings to measure blood oxygen levels in just 15 seconds. Plus, it records your vital blood oxygen saturation level while you sleep. The always-on display is now 2.5 times brighter as well. But the Apple Watch Series 6 size is something you need to know before purchasing one. Hence, we are here to help.
To measure your wrist for Apple Watch take a flexible tape and hold it just below where your wrist bone sits – at the place where you are likely to wear the band. Wrap the tape around your wrist to measure the Apple Watch size. Usually, a small wrist is 5 – 6.5 inches whereas a large wrist is between 7 – 8.5 inches. Notably, Apple Watch bands can be adjusted for your fit so you need not worry much.
The Apple Watch Series 6 comes in two different sizes – 40mm and 44mm. These measurements denote the size of the dial. For the 40mm model, you can expect a width of 34mm, depth of 10.7mm, and a case weight of around 30 grams. Further, the 44m model provides a width of 38mm, the same 10.7mm depth, and a 36g case weight. While choosing the right Apple Watch size is an important part of making a buying decision, you can always purchase different straps to suit your needs.
Aside from comfort, you also need to know the battery life and cost of both Apple Watch sizes would be different. If battery life is most important to you, you should take note of this. Aside from the usual leather and Nike bands, Apple has introduced a new Solo band for the Apple Watch Series 6, which has no clasp, no buckle, and it is stretchable. The Apple Watch Series 6 comes in seven colors. Furthermore, there is a Braided Solo loop that comes in five colors and multiple sizes.
The smartwatch is now up for grabs in both GPS-only and cellular variants. The GPS model of Apple Watch Series 6 starts at $399, while the cellular variant carries a starting price of $499 in the US.

The Apple Watch Series 6 and the Apple Watch SE are some of the best watches available in today’s market. However, Apple will not stop there, and recently published patent applications can give us an idea of what we may see in future Watches.
It seems that Apple is looking for ways to include Touch ID and under-display cameras in future Apple Watches. The first feature was mentioned in a patent granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office. This patent is titled “Electronic device having a sealed button biometric sensing system,” which means we could get Touch ID integrated into the Digital Crown found in the Apple Watch.
“The processor may apply the biometric identification for any of several purposes; for example, user identification, device unlocking, and application authorization.”
Touch ID would be a great feature for future Apple Watch models, as it would help make the device more secure. This extra level of security would help users to unlock their devices and authorize Apple Pay transactions. The best part is that this new feature would easily be included in a future Watch, as Apple has already managed to include it in the power button of the fourth-generation iPad Air.
The second new feature that would make its way to a future Apple Watch is an under-display camera. This patent is titled “Electronic devices with two-stage displays.” This patent explains how a display can be layered to include a camera and a flash, which would only be visible when needed.
This new technology would also make its way to future iPhone devices, so we may be closer to the death of the notch. This new technology works by layering a pixel array for displaying images in a first layer, while an outer layer would include an array of light modulators that could become transparent to allow the camera to function.
“When it is desired to capture images, control circuitry in the electronic device may temporarily place the shutter in a transparent mode to allow light from a flash and/or light being imaged by the camera to pass.”
Now, we would only have to wait and see if these features make their way to the next Apple Watch Series 7, or if they make their way to future Watches, since not every patent makes it to a final product, even though these features would definitely be a major upgrade in any future Apple Watch.

Apple gave a huge to the fitness and wellness capabilities of its smartwatches by introducing blood oxygen level measurement with the Apple Watch Series 6. And with ECG already onboard, the Apple Watch Series 6 presents itself as the most specced out wearable solution out there. In addition to packing faster silicon and an improved connectivity suite, the Apple Watch Series 6 also offers more case and band options to choose from.
But at a starting price of $399, it is not exactly a cheap option, and thus, it must be handled with care. The best way to do so is by shielding your Apple Watch Series with a protecting case. Wondering where to buy one? We got you covered with our list of the best cases for the Apple Watch Series 6 in 2020:
These were our top picks for the best Apple Watch Series 6 cases that are currently up for grabs. As expected, the list covers cases that cater to various needs, ranging from minimalist and rugged to those that add some bling to your new Apple smartwatch. If you are looking for a rugged case that won’t compromise on durability, the SUPCASE Unicorn Beetle Pro case is the one you should go for. Aside from protecting your Apple Watch Series 6, it also lets you choose from a wide array of bright as well understated colorways to suit your taste. Plus, the case comes with its own matching strap as well.
On the other hand, if you desire a case that is sturdy enough but doesn’t look like a fortified army vehicle, the Spigen Thin Fit Case for the Apple Watch Series 6 might just be the best option. It fits snugly around the smartwatch, offers protection against scratches, and doesn’t have any garish design elements. However, if you’re on the hunt for something that offers the most natural fit and blends seamlessly with the design of Apple Watch Series 6, you can’t go wrong with the PZOZ case. It also has a built-in screen protector to shield the smartwatch’s Retina OLED display from any damage.
As for our personal favorite, we’ll go with the Spigen Thin Fit Case as it offers a good blend of durability and class. Essentially, the best of both worlds! Which one did you pick for your Apple Watch Series 6? Do let us know in the comments section below.

Apple recently released iOS 14.3 and watchOS 7.2 updates for its devices. These have added new ways to measure your health. While iOS 14.3 brings Fitness+, the watchOS 7.2 has introduced new ways to measure cardio fitness level. Now, Apple users can view their cardio fitness level in the iPhone Health App. Moreover, the Watch will warn users if their cardio fitness level falls to a low range. For the unaware, Apple briefly mentioned this feature in September when it revealed the Apple Watch Series 6. Now, it is going live for Apple users.
Apple Watch users can now view how their cardio fitness level is classified based on their age group and sex in the Health app on iPhone, and receive a notification if it falls within the low range. The Apple Watch can already measure cardiorespiratory fitness through VO2 max, which is the maximum amount of oxygen the body can use during exercise, and it can be increased through physical activity. The wearable already estimates average and higher levels of VO2 max during vigorous outdoor walks, runs, or hikes, which many runners and other athletes monitor to improve performance.
Now, the Apple Watch uses multiple sensors, including the optical heart sensor, GPS, and the accelerometer, to estimate lower levels. As Apple mentions, this is a significant development since direct measurement of VO2 max typically requires a rigorous clinical test with specialized equipment that is not readily accessible to most people. In contrast, watchOS 7 allows the wearable to take cardio fitness measurements as users walk throughout the day, whether or not they are tracking a workout.
“Cardio fitness is increasingly recognised as a powerful predictor of overall health, and with today’s update to watchOS 7, we are making it even more accessible to more people,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. “Using its advanced sensors, Apple Watch now brings estimation of low cardio fitness levels from clinics directly to a user’s wrist, so people have more insight into how they can improve their long-term health through daily activity.”
Users’ cardio fitness level is classified as high, above average, below average, or low in the Cardio Fitness category in the Health app on iPhone. If a user’s level falls within the low range, they can receive a notification on Apple Watch. Moreover, they’ll get guidance on improving it over time and having a conversation with their doctor.
