Intel announces 11th Gen Core H-series mobile processors for gaming laptops

Qualcomm’s second-gen ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is bigger and 50% faster

Fossil Gen 5 LTE costs $349 and let will let you take calls directly on the smartwatch

Jabra Elite 85t gets four new color options at CES 2021

Yes, CES is still happening but before we get into more specific launches, let’s talk about some of our favorite single out announcements. Beginning with Qualcomm as the company just launched the second generation to their ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. This new sensor is 77% larger than its predecessor and it works 50% faster, this improved sensor will reportedly debut with the S21, if history repeats itself. Intel just announced their 11th Gen Core H Series of mobile chips which power gaming laptops based on a 10nm process, supporting up to 5GHz clock speeds, PCIe Gen 4, Thunderbolt 4 and more features. But, 10nm huh Intel? The Jabra Elite 85Ts which are some of my favorite earbuds just got 4 new colorways, including Gold, Copper, Black and Grey in case you were waiting for some variety. Fossil just announced the Gen 5 LTE which brings a 45mm sleek design and it now allows you to take calls directly on the smartwatch which is pretty nice for $349. And guys, there’s so much more CES 2021 coverage on Pocketnow.com but, we have specific articles for each of these products and their details, in the links in the description.

AMD unleashes Zen 3-based Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors

NVIDIA unveils RTX 30 series laptop GPUs and GeForce RTX 3060 desktop graphics

Let’s keep talking about CES, we know that a lot of you guys like when we cover PC parts and well Nvidia and AMD are back at it again. Starting with AMD, they just unveiled their Ryzen 5000 Series of mobile processors, these are divided into 2 families, the H and the U Series. The H Series is targeted at gaming enthusiasts in both 6 and 8 core variants with peak clock speeds of 4.8GHz, interesting considering Intel is pushing 5GHz. When it comes to the U Series, these are aimed at ultra-books and the rest of mass market laptops, these range from 4 to 8 cores, with pretty much the same base specs as some of the H Series but only pushing up to 4.4GHz. AMD is looking at 23% higher single threaded performances and up to a 17% increase in multi-threaded performances. Moving on to Nvidia, the company just revealed the RTX 30 Series laptop GPUs and a RTX 3060 desktop GPU. These are based on their 3rd Gen Max Q technology, offering up to 2x ray tracing output, and the new tensor cores are claimed to be 2x more capable. Overall Nvidia is aiming at higher efficiency, better performance and refined acoustics here. Over 70 laptops with the RTX 30 Series will debut this month alone, so you can check out all of the specifics in the links below. For a minute there I was like – are we sure about that number or is it 7? But nope, 70 laptops.

HONOR announces MagicBook Pro, HONOR Band 6

Sticking to CES, let’s move on to Honor as, we know that the company went independent form Huawei a couple of months ago and they just announced their upcoming flagship products. First off we got the Honor MagicBook Pro which brings a 16.1in display with a 90% screen-to-body ratio. It’s powered by a 10th Gen Intel processor, along with 16GB of dual channel DDR4 RAM, and 512GB of PCIe NVMe SSD, when it comes to cooling it brings dual fans and dual heat pipes. It includes Bluetooth 5.0, an HDMI port, 3 USB A ports and a USB C port, as well as a headphone jack and a fingerprint sensor. It apparently charges up to 50% in just 30 minutes. Now, moving on to wearables we also got the Honor Band 6 which features a 1.47in AMOLED Display, supporting 10 workout modes and 14 days of battery life. It brings 5 ATM water resistance and it brings a heart rate monitor, oxygen monitor, sleep and stress monitor and even a female cycle tracker. It comes in three color variants including Meteorite Black, Sandstone Grey and Coral Pink. Sadly we didn’t get word on price tags yet but it should be on global markets very soon.

Is this the new design of the 2021 iPad Pro refresh?

Now let’s talk about Apple and particularly iPads as it does seem that Cupertino is planning an aggressive push here. Lately there’s been a ton of rumors on the upcoming iPads as, we’re expecting a refresh to the regular iPad and we’re supposed to get mini-LED displays on the Pros very soon. Now, we have some new CAD renders of both iPad Pro models coming from 91Mobiles and MySmartPrice. Starting with the bigger model, it looks like it’s bringing pretty much the same design language as the current model with the boxy design and the single USB-C port as well as the smart connector for the keyboard. The camera is still a dual module along with the LiDAR sensor. When it comes to the 11in version, it also looks like its predecessor which we got back in 2020 but, apparently it’s going to be a couple of millimeters thinner and shorter. The CAD renders also show that we might be getting a Touch ID sensor similar to the one on the iPad Air, and you can also notice it on the renders for the 12.9in iPad. We’re expecting these iPads some time this year, running on a variant of the A13 or A14 Bionic, along with a mini-LED display. It clearly seems that iPad sales are up given the pandemic if Apple plans to make a broader push and even bring a more aggressive price tag.

Story of the day:

Samsung Galaxy S21 retail box leak confirms the absence of a charger

Samsung unveils the 5nm-based Exynos 2100 flagship SoC that will power the Galaxy S21

And finally for the hottest news today, you guessed it. We’re literally a couple of days away from Samsung’s Unpacked but, there’s still a ton of leaks and information to Unpack here.. Let’s start with something official as Samsung just posted the full teaser for the S21 Series which is captioned “Welcome to the Everyday Epic”. It teases a lot of camera capabilities, mainly video, low light and zoom. It shows the silhouette of the device and some software tricks as well. Sticking to what’s official, the company just announced the Exynos 2100 which will power the S21 depending on your region. It is a 5G-ready chip based on a 5nm process and a tri-cluster core design allowing for a 30% increase in multi-core performance and 40% boost in graphics performance. It allows some crazy tricks like handling 6 cameras and 200MP resolution output, as well as handling 4K panels at up to 120Hz, or QHD+ at 144Hz but, we won’t bore you with specifics, we’ll have a specific link for this in the description. Back to the S21, we have some new posters showing off the design yet again, as well as teasing the 5G capabilities, the storage tiers and the camera. Now, the poster getting the most headlines is the one showing off the box and as you can see, it’s very thin. Meaning it’s pretty much official that we won’t be getting a charger or headphones this year. Go Green! And remember, you can already register for the S21 and get some perks, in the first link in the description. So yeah, with that teaser and all of the other posters, seriously what’s left?

Finally, let’s move on to Jabra earbuds, the Elite 85T are currently $30 off, leaving them at $200. The 85h which I do recommend for this weather are a cool $16 off, leaving them at $234 or you can get the 65t for $44 off, at $76. We have more deals on Amazon smart speakers, other iPads and other Samsung products available.

Microsoft reportedly working on self-designed chips for Surface PCs and servers

It’s been about a month since we’ve been using Apple Silicon Macs and we can confirm that they are all that so, it looks like other companies want to follow up on this formula. According to a new report from Bloomberg, Microsoft is relying on chip designs from ARM to come up with a custom chip that will power the server computers as a part of their Azure cloud computing system. The report also adds that they are exploring the use of another chip that could power some of their Surface PCs. And of course, Microsoft isn’t new to this as, they have worked with Qualcomm in the past to design the SQ1 and SQ2 processors for the Surface Pro X as well as with AMD in other cases. But, Bloomberg claims that this project would be something entirely different to Microsoft, making it sound like they’re following on Apple’s footsteps for an in-house chip like we got with the M1s. Now, this is all interesting and of course, we’re looking forward to competition.. I just wonder how Intel is feeling right now?

OnePlus 8T Concept has a color-changing rear panel and cool tech that you don’t need

Let’s move on to OnePlus as, they’ve been having a very interesting year and now, they’re showing us their second Concept Phone for 2020. If you remember back at CES, yeah when tradeshows were a thing, OnePlus showed us the Concept One which had that disappearing camera that worked kind of like an ND filter. Well, the company just went on YouTube and showed us a phone with a color-shifting back panel. OnePlus is describing this as a quasi-wavy, quasi-flowery pattern that changes color by using an “Electric Color Material and Finish” making the panel go from dark blue to light silver and, it’s supposed to breathe with you. Apparently the material contains metal oxide in the glass which varies color at different voltages actually using mmWave, to achieve this effect. So yeah, OnePlus claims that they do not plan to release it or sell it commercially but, it’s nice to see that they’re still innovating. We just hope that if they actually launch one, the whole panel changes color, or that it jumps in to fix the camera results.

New iPads with OLED displays may arrive until 2022

Now let’s switch gears to Apple as over the past couple of weeks, there’s been a ton of rumors on the upcoming iPads as well as the new display technology they’ll be using. Just to jog your memory, Apple is planning to move on to miniLED displays in early 2021 for Macs and iPads, but some reports claim that they’ll be moving on to OLEDs shortly after, at least on iPads. Well, according to a Barclay’s analyst, those OLED iPads might not come in 2021 after all. This research note claims that we’ll probably see an iPad with an OLED display by 2022 the earliest and I mean, this timing actually makes more sense as, the other predictions hinted to them only announcing a couple of iPads with miniLED displays and launching the OLED ones in the same year. Apple has been using OLED panels on iPhones for a while now and it would be interesting to see iPads move on but, we’re also curious to see what these miniLED displays could do as they bring some of the OLED benefits to LCDs.

New iPhone 13 could finally arrive with a smaller notch

Since we started with Apple, now let’s talk iPhone 13 as it looks like we could possibly be getting a change that’s long overdue. According to a new DigiTimes report, the iPhone 13 will finally bring a smaller notch than usual. They claim that this will happen because the 3D sensor for Face ID is getting a reduction in size, meaning that the iPhone 13 will still bring a notch but it will be significantly smaller than what we currently have. Along with this, the 13 line is also expected to bring revised camera sensors, and apparently all models will now feature the LiDAR or ToF sensor, with the pro models getting an extra Telephoto which we’ve covered in previous leaks. This will help the more affordable models in lowlight scenarios as well as portraits. Now, we’re still pretty early in the leak cycle so we should take this with a grain of salt but, multiple leaks have already hinted to these phones bringing a smaller notch. The reason why this is not the hottest news is because we’ve heard this before repeatedly.

                  Story of the day:

New Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra leak includes new images and specs

New pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S21 series has been revealed

And finally the hottest news today have to do with Samsung and the much expected and leaked Galaxy S21 Series so, and yes, the leaks are probably at their peak right now. We’ve already seen the devices in multiple renders and videos but, these new leaked images seem to be the real deal. We have some new renders of the Galaxy S21 Ultra from both WinFuture and Evan Blass, all showing off the new design and the new wallpapers. We get to see the new camera module with the 4 lenses and again, it seems like it’s much more flushed to the rest of the phone when compared to previous Ultras, but somehow using the design language of the trim for the hump. This camera array will reportedly consist of a 108MP main sensor, two 10MP telephotos and a 12MP ultra wide. The display is your typical Samsung display with slightly narrower bezels and reportedly a smaller punch hole. The specs for this phone include either the Exynos 2100 or the Snapdragon 888, 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of onboard storage. Now, something we hadn’t discussed on the show is leaked price tags and it looks like it’s getting cheaper. A Galaxy Club leak claims that the S21 would start at around $850, the S21+ at around $1050 and the Ultra at around $1250, all $100 to $200 bucks cheaper than the S20 Line.

The new Chromecast could arrive with a new name and Android TV

A new report claims that the Chromecast might be going through some changes soon. Apparently it will now be called Nest Cast and it will run full blown Android TV. Instead of having the content cast directly from your phone or other device, users would be able to use a remote to interact with the interface, just like TVs with Android TV. It will also be able to stream games through Stadia, sources aren’t certain when we are getting this but we might see it at Google I/O. Oh and other reports say that Android TV is gonna now become Google TV as well. Stay tuned.

Apple could give us a foldable MacBook or MacBook Pro in the future

Apple has put out several foldable patents over the years for both the iPad and the iPhone and now we have a new one for the Mac. The ‘Planar Hing Assembly’ patent shows a design for a MacBook Pro-style device which would have a ‘single piece body with a seamless appearance that includes a bendable portion, capable of having a smoothly curved shape’. The biggest problem is that in this bendable portion you still have mechanical components that have to be in communication with the rest of the device, doing things like connecting the keyboard to the display. Apple would fix the problem of having this bendable piece work by stacking layers that can transition from an uncompressed to a compressed state. This bendable hinge could be even more reliable than current hinges if done right, but we’ll see if we ever get it.

Microsoft Surface Book 3 is official: 10th Gen Intel CPU, new NVIDIA GPUs, and up to 32GB RAM

Microsoft Surface Go 2 with slimmer bezels, more power goes official for $399

Microsoft just announced a substantial list of products today, starting with the Surface Go 2 and the Surface Book 3. Starting off with the Surface Go 2, it features options from a Pentium Gold to a Intel Core m3 with slimmer bezels in the same chassis as the older model. Specs go from 4 to 8 Gigs of RAM, 64 Gigs of eMMC or 128 Gigs of SSD storage and price starts at $399, going up to $879 for the maxed out variant. Now, the Surface Book 3 brings a similar design as well but with way better internals. It brings Intel’s latest 10th gen processors, it goes up to 32GB of RAM with what Microsoft claims to be the fastest ever SSDs. You get to choose the graphics between the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Max Q, GTX 1660Ti or Quadro RTX 3000 on the business model. It comes in two sizes, 13.5in and 15in with a promised 15% boost in performance. The 13.5in starts at a hefty $1599 while the 15in will cost you $2299. They also announced the Surface Headphones 2 which now offer a darker color option along with the ANC it’s known for, letting you manually adjust the level of Noise Cancellation you want through 13 different levels. The interesting thing is that they now cost $249 instead of $349. Oh and the Surface Earbuds that look like gages.. Yeah those are finally available and ugly as ever.

                  Story of the day:

These could be the new Samsung Galaxy S21 camera specs

We have a new report from Taiwan that hints to Samsung testing some interesting camera specs for the Galaxy S21. The report claims due to the Galaxy S20 being notorious for its focusing issues, that’s gonna be a major priority. It also says that one of the development models is rumored to bring a 150MP main sensor, a 64MP telephoto, a 16MP wide angle and a 12MP macro sensor. The report even mentiosn that the company might drop the ToF, which is quite interesting at a time when there’s so much bet for AR. Apparently two versions of this model are being tested, one with Optical Image Stabilization on the main sensor, the telephoto and the selfie camera. The other one has OIS for the main sensor, the telephoto and the wide angle. Samsung is also reportedly working on ramping up their work on higher resolution sensors to make room for the 150MP sensor.
