The more integrated smartphones become with our daily lives, the more we tend to store on them. We store everything from pictures, music and movies to documents, PDFs, and a plethora of other content. I often find myself needing a quick way to get a single file – and sometimes everything – stored on my smartphone over to my computer. Generally, it’s as simple as plugging up your phone to the computer via USB. But USB cables aren’t always handy, and sometimes it just not convenient to have to use one. It’s the 21st century – almost everything is wireless, and so ...
Corning Talks Timetable for First Flexible Willow Glass Displays
We all know that display manufacturers have been able to create flexible OLED panels for some time now; they’ve been trade show mainstays for years. Despite these appearances, there’s been little indication that such displays are anywhere near ready for inclusion on commercial products, despite the occasional rumor to the contrary. One factor we don’t often think about when ...
Thicker, Large-Screened, Polycarbonate iPhone Planned for Next Year?
We’ve heard any number of rumors concerning Apple’s next iPhone, a larger-screened iPhone, and a plastic budget-priced iPhone, and while they generally have elements in common, they’ve been all over the place in regards to specifics. As a result, it’s been difficult to outright reject even some of the more unlikely-sounding claims. Wearing that hat of due consideration, we take a look at the latest rumor to arrive, suggesting that the budget iPhone and the large-screened iPhone could be one and the ...
Rumors Look to Windows Phone 8 Update Strategy: GDR2, GDR3, Blue
What does the future look like for Windows Phone 8 updates? Yesterday we heard assurances that WP8 wouldn’t end up like WP7, left behind after a major platform shift, but what precisely is on the way? While we still don’t have a lot of details on just what features to expect from future updates, Mary Jo Foley has heard a bit about how Microsoft might be planning to release the next few, leading up to Windows Blue. The HTC Tiara that just leaked ...
Google Exec Less Than Thrilled With In-Development Motorola Smartphones
We’ve spoken a couple times about the effect Google’s acquisition of Motorola Mobility will have on the company’s future smartphones, often in the context of the rumored Motorola X phone. The official word has been that when Google took control last year, Motorola already had a twelve to eighteen month pipeline of products that were already in development, meaning it wouldn’t be ...
This Might Be the Most Visually Impressive Android Launcher Ever (Video)
I love showing off replacement launchers on my devices. Why? Any Android user can quickly and easily change the entire look and feel of their home screen experience just by installing a new app. Android is the only OS in the top three that can do that. Today I want to show you Vire Launcher, currently in beta, that takes how launchers look and their overall experience to a whole new level! Vire Launcher is a fast and very fluid launcher replacement that the developers say will make even “low-end Android phones feel like high-end” devices. Vire and adds realistic 3D effects ...

Microsoft Acknowledges WP7.8 Live Tile Bugs, Response Is a Little Weak
Earlier this week we heard that Microsoft was putting a stop to further Windows Phone 7.8 updates, and speculated that this interruption could be tied to some of the bug reports we’ve heard in regards to the software, specifically dealing with aberrant live tile behavior. Now a thread has been uncovered in Microsoft’s Windows Phone Development Forums where the company acknowledges some of these live tile issues, but manages to be less ...

HTC One Scores MWC Mobile Device Award
HTC couldn’t even wait for the Mobile World Congress to announce the HTC One, showing the Android off to the world at its February 19 launch event. Of course, it still brought along the brand new phone to show off to the crowds, and it looks like it managed to make quite the impression, beating-out all that other hardware announced at the expo itself for the award for best new mobile handset, device, or tablet. This isn’t the most surprising news, considering there wasn’t any one real show-stopper that ...
Samsung Announces Public Unpacked Experience in Times Square
While the Galaxy S IV didn’t make an appearance at the Mobile World Congress, that didn’t stop Samsung from using the phone’s forthcoming launch to steal a little bit of thunder from the smartphones that did make the trip to Barcelona, using the event to begin distribution of invitations to its next Unpacked event, scheduled for March 14. Between outright saying that the event will feature “the next Galaxy” model, and some coy use of the ...
HTC Confirms Sense 5 Updates
Earlier this month we got to see HTC launch its new One flagship, the phone that will usher in Sense 5. It’s quite the departure from earlier iterations of Sense, and love it or hate it, existing HTC users have probably been wondering whether or not there were plans to make it available for current devices. HTC recently took to Facebook to address these questions, and let us know a little about how Sense 5 updates will arrive. This is not necessarily an exhaustive list of phones that will see ...
Surface Pro vs. Surface RT (Video)
Today I’ve got both the Surface Pro vs. Surface RT so we’re going to compare them! First let’s talk about weight. Neither of these feel heavy to me. The Pro is certainly heavier at 2lbs, versus the 1.5lb Surface RT, but even holding them both together is lighter than the camera I carry and definitely lighter than my old 4.7lb Tablet PC. Plus I have the advantage of extremely muscular upper body strength. The Pro has a much faster boot time and shutdown time which actually makes turning the tablet fully off not much different speed-wise compared to putting it into sleep ...
