Let’s end the week with Apple deals as, we know they’re your favorites, and stop looking at me funny. The Galaxy Tab S7+ is also $100 off, that leaves the Wi-Fi only, 128GB of storage model for $750. Back to Apple, the Apple Watch Series 6 and the SE are both $20 off, that means the Series 6 starts at $379 and the SE starts at $309. We have more deals on other Apple products, other Samsung tablets, and Logitech accessories in the description

Netflix’s premium and standard plans are getting a price hike in the US

Now Let’s stay with the official news and talk about services for a couple of segments, but we’re actually going to begin with the bad news. I’m looking at you Netflix. If you’re in the United States, the company will be raising the price tags for the Standard and Premium subscription plans. The Standard Plan is getting a $1 hike, raising it to $14 and the Premium Plan is getting a $2 hike, standing at $18 a month. After the announcement came out, Netflix shares reportedly went up 4.8% cause of course investors want them to mil you for more money. Apparently, Netflix thinks that this is an opportunity to raise prices in countries where they feel like they provide “extra value” and it allows them to continue offering more variety of TV shows and Films. If you’re a Netflix user, they will alert users 30 days ahead of the actual increase, so if you want to unsubscribe, now is the time. That one service that’s kept humans sane throughout the pandemic seems ready to make more profits sadly.

You can now get the new Apple One services bundle

Now sticking to the official news and services, let’s talk about a good update with Apple One. If you haven’t been paying attention, Apple One is basically Apple’s all-in-one subscription which let’s you get multiple Apple Services for a fixed rate. To recap, there’s three different tiers, the Individual plan which includes, Apple Music, Apple TV+, Arcade and 50GB of iCloud for $14.95 a month. The Family plan includes the same but with 200GB of storage for $19.95. Finally, you get the Premier plan which includes all the services mentioned before, Apple Fitness+, Apple News+ and 2TB of iCloud storage for $29.95 and like the family plan, you can share it with up to six family members. Well, enough with the recap, Apple One is now official in the US and over 100 different countries though, services like Apple Fitness+ are still in the works and they will launch later this year. You also get other benefits which will be detailed in the links in the description. If you sign up today you get a month of free trial, but this doesn’t drag your existing services, and also, I might not go the premier route if I were you cause buying an Apple Watch will give you 3 months for free.

LG could give us a new flagship and a phone with rollable display as soon as March

Even if the LG Wing isn’t the best phone ever, the company has somewhat been on the spotlight as of late because, and mainly by launching non-2020 phones. They also made it very explicit that the Wing is only part of their Explorer Project and we should be getting more phones in the future, and they even teased a rollable phone. Well, according to a new report, LG is working on two projects at the moment, Rainbow and Project B. Rainbow will be a classic flagship, part of the V Series and we should expect it in Q1 of 2021. Project B will most likely be that rolling phone and the report claims that we should expect it in March. The Elec claims that LG is expecting 26M smartphones this year, and around 30M for next year and honestly, that’s not too bad for LG as, we know that their least successful department is smartphones. Apparently they want to shift more phone lines to ODMs, to around 70% which is a crazy increase from 2018’s 10%. We’ll see as, we’re excited to get more phones like the Wing, it makes the job a little more fun, though yes, that Wing kinda needs work.

Apple reports 2020 Mac record sales, thanks to the MacBook Pro

Let’s talk about sales numbers and Apple for a second as, Cupertino had their fourth quarter earnings call yesterday for the 2020 fiscal year. And, we’ll be focusing on Macs for this segment as, we’re getting close to Apple Silicon Macs. According to them, Apple thrived during the pandemic with both Macs and iPads doing great numbers, in part thanks to the whole work and study at home situation. During the call, they claimed that outside of iPhones, their products grew a combined 30% last quarter, with a lot of the success coming through the MacBook Pro, as they launched the new 16in last year, and a new 13in model as well. Overall, Mac revenue hit an all-time high at 28.6B. We’ll see how it affects them once Apple Silicon comes into play cause such dramatic transitions don’t always go well.

Story of the day:

Is this the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 or the Galaxy Note 21?

And finally the hottest news today have to do with Samsung and its roadmap for 2021. It’s a mix up of things so bare with me as it’ll all make sense at the end. If you remember, a couple of days ago, we covered a new patent for the Galaxy Z Fold line that showed a pop up camera but now. Today we have probably the patent we’ve been begging for since this Z Fold came to existence. See, there’s been speculation for years about how Samsung might get rid of the Note line to merge it with the S, but all we’ve ever wanted was that Z Fold form factor to have an S Pen. Well, this new patent which was filed back in April shows a Galaxy Z Fold with a fully working S Pen, or maybe that they’ll keep the Note name and it’ll fold? The slot for the stylus would go on the bottom right side and technically it should interact with the phone like it does with the Note. Really, the biggest problem here would be how it would interact with the crease and of course, how that plastic protective layer would handle scratches as resistive touchscreens never aged well. Samsung is reportedly looking into AES technology which allows the foldable screen to not require a digitizer for the stylus to work, but now we question if it’ll work like the Note. The patent was approved this week and, we’re basically still a whole year away from the Z Fold 3 or the Galaxy Note 21 for that matter, things should get interesting over time.

You can now get the new Apple One services bundle

Back in June, we received rumors suggesting that Apple was working on bundling several of its services into one package that would also help its users save some bucks. This new service was later announced during Apple’s September event, which also introduced the new iPad Air and the Apple Watch Series 6, but it took some time before it became available. Now, Apple One is finally available and up for grabs.

Apple One is a new alternative from Apple that lets you bundle several of its services, allowing you to pay a single fixed rate instead of separate monthly payments that would also add up to more money at the end of each month. The bundles include a subscription to multiple Apple services, which include Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and more.

To sign up for Apple One, you must first go to the Settings App, then tap on Your Name at the top, then Subscriptions, and finally tap on Apple One. However, it may not appear on your device at first, so keep checking, and it will eventually appear.

  • Now, there are three basic tiers to choose from:
The Individual package includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and 50GB of iCloud for $14.95 a month.
  • The Family package includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and 200GB of iCloud storage for $19.95 a month, which can be shared with up to six family members.
  • Finally, the Premier package includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, Apple Fitness+, and 2TB of iCloud storage for $29.95 per month, and yes, you can also share this one with up to six family members.

Apple One bundles are now available in the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world. However, the Premier package is currently limited to the United States, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom since these are the only countries where the Apple New+ service is available. And don’t forget that Apple Fitness+ is still not available, as it’s expected to launch until later this year. The best part is that Apple One includes a 30-day free trial of any Apple service customers don’t already have, and they can also pay for this service bundle with the Apple Card to receive 3 percent Daily Cash per month.

LG could give us a new flagship and a phone with rollable display as soon as March

We could say that LG has been absent from the flagship segment for some months now. The company decided to kill off its G-series to make room for a new high-end midranger that we now know as the LG Velvet. However, it seems that the company is now ready to give us a new flagship, along with a new device that will feature a rollable display.

According to recent reports from The Elec, LG is focusing on two phone projects for 2021, Rainbow and B Project. Rainbow is expected to be a classic flagship, the next device in the V-series, while the B Project is supposed to be a new smartphone with a rollable screen. The B project is also part of LG’s explorer project, which was the one responsible for giving is the recently launched Wing, which means that we will most likely receive new phones with interesting designs.

“Meanwhile, LG will produce strategically important models on its own next year. Its next flagship phone, codenamed Rainbow, and its rollable smartphones, codenamed B Project, will be produced by LG itself.
“Rainbow will be launched within the first quarter of 2021. B Project will launch in March of 2021.
“Rainbow will likely be level in specs to LG’s V series. The company last launched the V60 ThinQ 5G in the US in March. It used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 __ LG Velvet had used the Snapdragon 765.”

LG’s rollable phone is expected to have part of its screen rolled up to make it more compact when not in use. It would then roll out to give us a larger screen area. The company already teased this device at the end of the announcement of the Wing, and we are expecting to get it in March. However, Rainbow, the new phone of the V-series, could arrive with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 in the first quarter of 2021. The Elec also reports that LG is expecting to ship around 26 million smartphones this year, with more than 30 million shipments in sight for 2021.

Apple reports 2020 Mac record sales, thanks to the MacBook Pro

It seems that the ongoing pandemic hasn’t affected Apple sales as much as expected earlier this year. The company has recently reported its earnings for the fourth quarter of the 2020 fiscal year, which includes a $9 billion Mac revenue that has established a new quarterly record. These numbers also helped the company reach a whopping $28.9 billion in Mac revenue this year.

Apple has recently presented its annual Form 10-K report in the US Securities and Exchange Commission. This report shows that Apple has managed to increase Mac sales in fiscal 2020, compared to the previous year, and all of this was thanks to the increase in MacBook Pro sales.

Let’s remember that Cupertino introduced a new 16-inch MacBook Pro in the first quarter of its 2020 fiscal year. Some months passed, and then we saw Apple introduce a 13-inch MacBook Pro refresh during the third quarter of its fiscal year. They both included faster, more powerful Intel processors and a Magic Keyboard that didn’t give as many problems as the butterfly keyboard in previous models.

The new MacBook Air also received amazing customer response during the back to school season, according to Apple’s financial chief Luca Maestri. It seems that working and studying from home helped both Macs and iPads to record strong sales since the ongoing pandemic has forced millions of people to stay home to avoid possible infections. Apple also mentioned that its products outside of the iPhone grew 30 percent during the last quarter. More details of Apple’s latest Form 10-K report can be found by following this link, or you can simply take a look at the ones mentioned below since they include important information.

  • As of September 26, 2020, Apple had approximately 147,000 full-time equivalent employees, an increase of 10,000 employees from one year prior.
  • Apple spent $18.75 billion on research and development in the 2020 fiscal year, up approximately 16 percent from $16.21 billion in the 2019 fiscal year. Apple said this increase was primarily due to “headcount-related expenses.”
  • Apple spent $2.95 billion on warranty claims in the 2020 fiscal year, down approximately 23 percent from $3.85 billion in the 2019 fiscal year.
  • Amid mounting scrutiny over its App Store practices, Apple acknowledged that if the commission it collects on certain purchases were to decline, the company’s financial results could be “materially adversely affected.”

Is this the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 or the Galaxy Note 21?

We have been getting tons of Samsung leaks in the last couple of days. Most of these leaks and rumors usually mention the new Samsung Galaxy S21, with its possible launch in January. However, the latest leak is about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. Said leak makes us believe that Samsung has already figured out a way to give stylus support to its next foldable device. It also shows us a new design feature that we usually find in the Samsung Galaxy Note series.

It seems that Samsung has taken one more step towards creating the ultimate multitasking mobile device. The company could’ve already decided on the design of the next Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, or that’s what we can assume after seeing the latest smartphone/tablet patent filed at the World Intellectual Property Organization, as the new foldable could finally arrive with an S Pen.

The leaks show us where Samsung is planning on placing the S Pen in the Z Fold 3, and yes, this is exactly where you would find the stylus in a Samsung Galaxy Note. Unfortunately, we can’t see the placement of the buttons or other details in the device, including the punch hole placement for the selfie camera.

However, rumors claim that we could also see an under-display selfie camera in this device. Reports also claim that Samsung would change to Active Electrostatic Solution technology for the upcoming foldable, meaning that the screen won’t require a digitizer to work, which could also mean that we may get more features in the next S Pen.

These changes will also be more expensive than the Electromagnetic Resonance technology that’s currently found in the Galaxy Note, but we may not have to worry that much about that since rumors also suggest that Samsung is planning on keeping the same price tags on its upcoming devices. This patent was filed back in April, and it got approved this week, which means that Samsung has been working on giving us an S Pen in its foldable devices for quite a while. It may finally arrive with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, which is expected to arrive sometime in the second half of 2021.

Samsung SmartThings Find easily locates your Galaxy devices

Samsung has announced a new app called ‘SmartThings Find’, which can help you locate your Galaxy devices including smartphones, tablets, earbuds, and smartwatches. The SmartThings Find is an opt-in part of the SmartThings app. Its update will be rolling out globally. It will run on devices with Android 8 or later.

The app uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ultra-wideband (UWB) technologies to find the Galaxy devices. The best part is that it can be used even if your Galaxy device is offline, as long as it has enough battery to send Bluetooth and UWB signals. It can find even an individual earbud.

The latest development comes from Samsung. To start using the service, you’ll have to register in the SmartThings App. The app can be used to find Galaxy smartphones, earbuds, tablets as well as smartwatches. Samsung explains that the device produces a Bluetooth Low Energy signal. This signal can be received by other devices once it has been offline for 30 minutes.

If you report your device as lost using the SmartThings Find app, your Galaxy smartphone or tablet that has opted into helping find misplaced devices can alert the Samsung server about its location. It will in turn notify you.

“Utilizing the latest in BLE and UWB technology, SmartThings Find will make your life less stressful when it comes to searching for misplaced Galaxy devices,” said Jaeyeon Jung, Vice President and Head of SmartThings Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics, in a statement. “With the added advantage of using AR6 in conjunction with maps and sounds to guide you back to your devices, SmartThings Find is a simple and visual solution that will help you easily locate your favourite devices.

OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 Edition to be launched on November 2

OnePlus 8T is getting a new special edition phone. The OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk Edition will go official on November 2. The company had already announced that it will go on pre-sale in China starting November 4.

There is no word on availability or if it would make its way out of China.

Netflix’s premium and standard plans are getting a price hike in the US

Netflix is raising the price of its subscription service in the US. It has increased the monthly charges for the Standard and Premium subscription plans. The Standard plan is rising by $1 a month to $14. On the other hand, the Premium plan is receiving a price hike of $2, which translates to $18 per month. For the unaware, the former enables two streams at the same time, while the Premium plan allows for four simultaneous streams. Following the announcement, Netflix shares saw a jump of 4.8%.

After Netflix’s earnings report last week, its Chief Operating Officer Greg Peters that the company saw the opportunity to increase its prices in the countries where they had delivered the “extra value.” Following it, this Thursday, a Netflix spokesperson said that the company was raising prices “so that we can continue to offer more variety of TV shows and films, in addition to our great fall line up.” Notably, the Basic plan remains at $8.99 a month in the US. It allows users to stream on a single screen at a time.

According to Alex Sherman from CNBC, Netflix will alert users to the changes 30 days ahead of time. The streaming service enjoyed a boom following the lockdown in several countries during the pandemic. Netflix is expecting to end 2020 with more than 200 million streaming subscribers around the world, with 73 million of those from the United States and Canada. Meanwhile, it is also facing competition from a growing list of streaming services including Disney+, HBO Max, and Apple TV+.

Netflix is also expanding its stream in 4K for Mac users. However, you’ll need a Mac with a T2 security chip to stream Netflix in 4K HDR with macOS Big Sur.

Let’s stay on the official news as, it’s been a couple of weeks since Google announced the Pixel 5 and the 4a 5G, we got a video coming soon. Well, the Pixel 5 is officially launching in the US and Canada today while the Google Store is starting with pre-orders for the 4a 5G. Just to jog your memory, the 4a 5G is the bigger brother to both the Pixel 5 and 4a, at least when it comes to size. IT’s powered by the same Snapdragon 765G, it brings a 3885 mAh battery, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a headphone jack. It packs the same camera array as the Pixel 5 which is, world class of course. It’s available for pre-order for $499 or $599 if you get the Verizon UW unit. Again, videos coming soon.

Amazon and Apple to face antitrust scrutiny in Germany

And, I guess this can become a spin off of the ban section, since it seems that political drama remains a thing in tech these days? Apple and Amazon are both facing scrutiny in Germany for “brand gating”. Basically, this allows the makers of branded products, in this case Apple with the iPhone, to have independent sellers removed from the platform, in this case Amazon, for Amazon to sell them instead… which is kind of what we’ve seen since day one. Amazon responded by saying that they have never removed sales permissions of sellers without sound and specific reasons as, they invest heavily into protection customers from illegal distribution of goods. However, the German agency claims that Apple and Amazon are a clear example of this. Similar claims have been made in the past and in other countries so, we’ll see how both companies thread after this, though I’m seriously hoping this doesn’t mean the end of Apple deals on Amazon.

macOS Big Sur beta references three unreleased Macs ahead of Apple Silicon debut

Now, moving on to something I’m really excited about, let’s talk Apple Silicon Macs. The company is reportedly having an event on November 17th focused on these Macs, and the latest update of the macOS Big Sur beta gives us more information. The files were discovered by a user on Twitter, where we get to see three different, unreleased Mac models. The models ending with f, g and h are all new, with one of them added back in beta 10 and 2 with the latest beta 11. If you go up in the list, the model ending with 2019 f, belongs to the 16in MacBook Pro I’m rocking, so 2020 f will most likely belong to the 2020 model which was leaked yesterday in the Boot Camp update. The other files most likely belong to a new iMac, and a MacBook Air. We don’t have much other information as of right now but, things should start ramping up very soon as we get closer to the event. I’m not gonna regret buying a MacBook Pro right now, I promise.. I’m trying.. Ugh, like seriously Apple?

The iPhone 12 mini was recently caught on video

Now, let’s keep talking about Apple’s unreleased products, and unreleased is a keyword here. Yes, Apple already announced the iPhone 12 Mini but, it’s not even available to preorder for another week. Well, a Romanian Tech Journalist managed to get his hands on one and went live for 40 minutes with the phone, showing off, well everything. He compares the size to the iPhone 12 and the 11 Pro Max and, man this thing looks tiny. He also shows us the camera working, both rear and the selfie shooter. At first we thought it could be a dummy because, even if he has the phone plugged in to show a screen recording, every time he showed us the display he couldn’t move it. However, we went through the whole thing and he did move it a couple of times so, it looks like the real deal. This iPhone 12 Mini brings a 5.4in display with pretty much the same capabilities as the iPhone 12, expect some coverage on it as soon as we are able to get it. I’m not gonna lie, this looks like such an iPhone 5 throwback and I like it.

Story of the day:

The latest Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra renders show an extra sensor

And finally the hottest news today have to do with Samsung and how it keeps moving things around with the Galaxy S21. Even if we are expecting the Galaxy S21 to launch earlier than expected, apparently Sammy is still tweaking the design… continuously. Last week we got the first renders for the device and I said that they might change over time. Well, OnLeaks is back at it again, this time with a revised version of his renders for the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The display and the camera module pretty much look the same but, there’s an extra camera here. The first renders brought a quad camera array but, this new one includes 5. From what we can see, this includes the main sensor, a wide angle, the periscope telephoto, and two extra sensors. One of them might be a ToF sensor, but that still leaves a mysterious one out. The S21 Ultra is expected to bring an updated version of the 108MP sensor we get on Samsung flagships, as well as a 40MP selfie shooter to match the original Ultra. Some other rumors hint to this 5th lens being a second telephoto, but that’s all speculation. And again, we are expecting these to launch either in late January, or early February.

Amazon and Apple to face antitrust scrutiny in Germany

Countries have really started to pay attention to how big companies make their money and how they compete against growing companies and individuals. Apple and Google are currently under investigation by the US Department of Justice, and this process may even force Apple to develop a new search engine. Now, Apple is once again under the spotlight, this time alongside Amazon, as they are set to face antitrust scrutiny in Germany over policies that stop individuals from selling Apple products on Amazon.

According to a recent report from Bloomberg, Germany’s antitrust regulator has gone against Apple and Amazon over the policy of “brandgating,” which allows the makers of branded products to have independent sellers removed from the retail platform.

“Brandgating agreements can help to protect against product piracy,” the Cartel Office said in a statement. “But such measures must be proportionate to be in line with antitrust rules and may not result in eliminating competition.”

Now, Amazon said that it never removes sales permission without justified reasons, and it invests in protecting customers from the illegal distribution of goods. Amazon has only allowed Apple authorized vendors to sell Cupertino’s products on its platform since 2019, which is also the time when Amazon became an Apple authorized vendor. Still, the company has agreed to cooperate with the investigation.

“The safety of our customers is our first priority, and our teams are constantly working with law enforcement, resellers, and e-commerce sites around the world to remove counterfeit products from the market,” Apple said in a statement. “We work with Amazon to protect our customers from counterfeit products and provide confidence they are receiving a genuine Apple product out of the box.”

Now, we can only wait for the outcome of this investigation and see what Germany decides to do if it decides that Apple and Amazon are negatively affecting competition.

macOS Big Sur beta references three unreleased Macs ahead of Apple Silicon debut

A day ago, Apple released the first macOS Big Sur 11.0.1 beta for developers, which brings a host of bug fixes and performance improvements prior to its public release. While those are generic changes, the update does come with cryptic information about something really exciting – a reference to unreleased Macs, likely the new ones that will use Apple Silicon. Now, before your imagination goes into overdrive, the new devices are mentioned by internal codenames only and nothing about the product class

Is Mac hardware with Apple silicon upon us?

The latest beta build carries two bundle files apparently denoting two unreleased Macs, while the previous macOS Big Sur beta update mentioned another model as well. Here are the file bundle names – MacHardwareTypes-2020f.bundle, MacHardwareTypes-2020g.bundle, and MacHardwareTypes-2020h.bundle. The references were first spotted by developer Hans Harck Tønning (@HarckerTech) who shared a screenshot of the file bundles on Twitter.

Now, it is hard to decipher whether these are codenames for a MacBook or iMac, but the ‘2020’ in the file names suggests that these could be unveiled later this year. Previous leaks suggest that Apple will hold an event next month, specifically on November 17, to announce new Mac hardware with Apple silicon inside. Now, we’ve heard rumors of a new 24-inch iMac being in the pipeline as well, but it is unclear if it will pack an Intel processor or it will be among the first Macs to draw power from in-house silicon.

However, if all three Mac devices that have been mentioned in macOS Big Sur beta updates debut at the same time, we are almost certainly getting new MacBooks, likely with Apple silicon inside. Back in June, Apple announced that the first Mac powered by custom silicon will arrive by the end of 2020. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently predicted that a redesigned 13.3-inch MacBook Pro powered by Apple Silicon will start shipping in the fourth quarter of 2020. Additionally, a new MacBook Air with in-house silicon is expected to go into production around the same time and will eventually debut early next year.

The iPhone 12 mini was recently caught on video

The iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone 12 Pro Max are still a week away from start pre-orders. Still, Romanian tech journalist George Buhnici posted a hands-on video where he compares the smaller iPhone 12 mini to the already available iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

We don’t know how, but a tech journalist in Romania managed to get his hands on a new iPhone 12 mini a couple of weeks before the device hits the shelves. He then made a video giving out important details of Apple’s new budget-minded iPhone 12 mini, where he also compared it to the 6.1 iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. Unfortunately, the video is now private, and other video sources have been taken down due to copyright claims conducted by @gbuhnici, but if you go to YouTube, you may still be able to get lucky and find the video.

Buhnici shows us the device that measures 131.5 x 64.2 x 7.4 mm and has a total weight of 135 grams, which makes it a device that’s very easy to use with one hand. Smaller doesn’t mean less powerful, as we find Apple’s latest A14 chipset under the hood, even though we would’ve wished for more RAM and maybe a battery that may be able to put up with the strain 5G is causing on Apple’s new lineup. The phone is significantly smaller than the devices with a 6.1-inch display, and also smaller than last year’s iPhone 11, but it is almost similar in size to the iPhone SE 2020, but the second one is 7mm shorter, 3mm narrower.

Earlier reports suggested that the iPhone 12 mini may not be Apple’s best selling iPhone, as people wouldn’t want to settle for a device with a 5.4-inch display, even though this device is the least expensive variant, priced at just $729. However, it seems that predictions have also been a bit off since the iPhone 12 Pro seems to be getting more attention, instead of the vanilla iPhone 12, which was expected to sell more than the other variants.
