Pebble smartwatches coming to Target stores, with exclusive color option

Last summer, we saw Pebble take the success it found with direct sales of its smartwatches online and transition that over to the brick-and-mortar retail world, bringing the first-gen Pebble smartwatch to Best Buy stores. At first, only the black option was available, but we soon saw that joined by red. Fast-forward to 2014, and Pebble Steel may be the new hotness, but its very limited availability means that the classic Pebble design may be the smarter choice for users who don’t want to wait. Today we learn of ...

International App Store prices will change tomorrow due to the exchange rate

Apple’s App Store pricing practices are fairly straight forward since its inception. Developers decide the price they want to charge, and then Apple gets a 30% cut of everything the app makes. What’s interesting is that Apple has never really explained how it prices apps outside the United States, unless you live in Europe, where everything is the exact amount in Euros. In countries outside the European Union, maintaining a fixed price is difficult due to variable exchange rates, and that’s just about to hit customers abroad. Apple has just announced that it’ll be ...

Samsung asking Google for help in trial against Apple

With the Apple vs Samsung trial gaining more and more heat, the next round of court visits is just a couple of days away. We’ve been hearing of Apple’s master plan in billing Samsung $40 for every device shipped, based on all the patent infringement that has been proven, and we know that what Cupertino wants is for Samsung to no longer make money off-of its mobile division. Whether that happens or not is yet to be seen, but we’ve just learned what Samsung is planning next as a way to fight back. Today we’ve learned that Samsung is looking for Google’s help, ...

Has your Google Play Music All Access been messing up? Here are the alternatives

When Google announced its Google Play Music would soon include an on-demand music streaming service, dubbed All Access, I prepared to pack up shop and migrate from Spotify to Google’s streaming service. I signed up as soon as All Access went live and never looked back. I made sure everything was where it should be and that the service worked as advertised. Then I canceled my Spotify account. For the last 11 months, I’ve truly enjoyed All Access. I love the interface, the

HTC One M8 does a factory reset after too many failed unlock attempts

Why do you lock your smartphone? To keep unauthorized eyes from being able to view your data? To keep that data safe and secure for when you need it? The new HTC One M8 is getting attention this week due to a security feature that tries to protect your phone by doing a factory reset after too many failed attempts to unlock it, but is this is case of good intentions going awry? After five failed unlock attempts, the phone freezes-up for thirty seconds to discourage random guessing. As users attempt to unlock the phone beyond this, the count of ...

Ultrakam allows you to record 2K video on your iPhone

For those of you that thought that 1080p video would be dead on high-end smarpthones this year, well that’s not entirely the way things went with product launches. One thing that is becoming common is for smartphones to be able to record video in up-to 4K resolution, but that is of course, unless you’re using an iPhone. The good thing about the developer community though, is that they always ...

Samsung ATIV SE rumors get specific about hardware, software details

Overnight, we got a little update about what to expect so far as the next wave of Windows Phone hardware launches goes, mentioning that we may hope to see retail availability for a number of new models begin on April 23. While those include some Nokia Lumia phones that we’ve been waiting to see launch for the better part of forever, they also mentioned a Samsung phone that’s been on our radar since late last year, the rumored ATIV SE. We’ve been talking ...

Renderings based on leaked iPhone 6 schematics look interesting

We’re not really fans of posting concept photos, and we’re sure you’ve noticed. Not every concept you’ll see is either possible, or worth the time invested if it’ll most probably never happen. Still, we ran across some concept designs today that are actually based on some solid Apple data, and which could reveal what to expect for the iPhone 6. These renders were designed based on the recently leaked schematics that we ...

Extra WP8.1 Live Tile column coming to phones with screens 4.5 inches or larger?

Last fall, Windows Phone 8 GDR3 arrived to deliver support for 1080p resolutions and larger displays. In doing so, the platform introduced support for an extra column of Live Tiles, now with enough room to display three medium tiles (or six small tiles) in a row. Early on, we thought this mode might be coming as an option to existing devices (seeing it teased on models like the Lumia 920), but this ultimately failed to transpire. A new ...

HTC One M8 sales seem to be off to a solid start

HTC aims to capture a sizable share of the smartphone market, and doesn’t care who knows it; last week, we heard CEO Peter Chou describe his desire to have HTC accountable for 10% of smartphone sales everywhere. It’s got a long way to go between where it is now and that goal, and how well the One M8 fares (or doesn’t) could go a long way towards determining what sort of chances HTC has at making headway on that dream. Sales of the phone only just began last week, ...

iPhone 6 leaked photos show us its housing and design?

Regardless of how good Apple is in keeping secrets, the company has shown us that it has done a poor job in concealing its previous iPhone designs. Just two years ago we saw the iPhone 5 leaked everywhere, and the same could be said about the iPhone 5s. The iPhone 6 has been another topic of intense rumor activity for the last couple of weeks, and today we get the hottest leaks yet. Today we’ve come across the first leaked photos of the device’s housing, which definitely resembles a bigger iPhone, but also one that looks almost identical to the current iPhone 5s. This image was ...

LG G2 Mini tipped for US carrier

LG’s G2 Mini is one odd little phone. It physically resembles the larger handset, complete with those iconic rear-mounted volume controls, and scales things down ever so slightly, while still packing a relatively large 4.7-inch screen. Unfortunately, the hardware situation doesn’t live up to its namesake, with Snapdragon 400s and Tegra 4is instead of the Snapdragon 800. We’ve heard some ...

Windows Phone 8.1 developer preview may arrive next week

We’re just days away from the start of Microsoft’s Build conference, when we expect the company to make a major announcement concerning the introduction of Windows Phone 8.1. We may or may not hear about new 8.1-running phones (though that’s definitely where we’re leaning for that Nokia event on Wednesday), but the platform itself should very much be on the agenda. Following any launch event, how might WP8.1 ultimately become available to users? ...

HTC One M8 Mini release plans rumored

Even in the absence of any specific rumors to its existence, we’d still be expecting HTC to be working on a new Mini version of this year’s One M8, just as we got the first One Mini several months following the launch of its own parent phone. But luckily for us, we’re not working on pure guesswork, and a couple leaks have already gotten quite specific about this new Mini hardware. Late last week, we caught the latest reference to the smartphone, leaving us wondering just how soon it might launch. We still ...
