Sainsbury’s online: how to book a grocery delivery slot, click-and-collect, and opening hours today

Sainsbury’s online is showing a greater amount of food delivery and click & collect slots than it has over the last few months, but the situation changes day-by-day. The supermarket is finally allowing new customers to register online again - for the first time since lockdown began. However, unless you’re an elderly or vulnerable customer, you will only be able to order groceries via click & collect. Customers who are already registered are still eligible for home delivery.

Sainsbury’s opening hours

Sainsbury’s has extended its opening hours, with the majority of its stores now open from 8am to 8pm. There is a dedicated shopping hour for elderly and vulnerable customers between 8am and 9am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. NHS and social care workers can also take advantage of priority opening times, with stores opening at 7:30am to 8am Monday to Saturday.

To find out the times of your local supermarket, head to Sainsbury’s store locator.

How to get a Sainsbury’s delivery slot

Sainsbury’s has generally shown good availability for its home delivery slots for existing customers. Though it changes week by week, there’s usually a good selection of dates on offer, with Sainsbury's delivery charges costing as little as 50p, depending on the time you choose.

We advise booking a delivery slot before you start shopping at Sainsbury's online. Also, keep in mind that Sainsbury's delivery slots are limited to one per customer within a seven-day period.

As with other supermarkets, Sainsbury’s will deliver your groceries via contactless delivery, so you won’t need to worry about coming into contact with your driver. Plastic bags will also be provided.

How does Sainsbury’s click and collect work?

If you’d like to use Sainsbury’s click and collect service, simply go to Sainsbury’s online and select the option before you checkout. Availability will vary depending on your area, but we’ve seen a decent number of free slots appearing.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 4 and CoD: Mobile Season 7 have been postponed indefinitely

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Warzone and Call of Duty: Mobile’s upcoming season have been postponed indefinitely by publisher Activision.

The announcement was made on the official Call of Duty Twitter account, which states “While we all look forward to playing the new seasons of Modern Warfare, Warzone and Call of Duty: Mobile, now is not the time. We are moving the launches of Modern Warfare Season 4 and Call of Duty: Mobile Season 7 to later dates,” The statement goes on to add: “Right now it’s time for those speaking up for equality, justice and change to be seen and heard. We stand alongside you."

Season 4 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was supposed to begin on June 3, and saw the return of the iconic character, Captain Price, along with a bevy of new content for players to enjoy. Call of Duty: Mobile Season 7 was also supposed to release sometime this week (June 1 - June 5), and was set to receive a similar bumper update for the popular mobile game. Activision has not provided any indication as to when the new seasons will begin following the delay.

Now is not the time

The decision echoes the move made by Sony, who postponed its PlayStation reveal event, which was supposed to take place on Thursday (June 4). Sony’s statement read: “We do not feel that right now is a time for celebration, and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard."

While fans will naturally be disappointed by the delay, the decision from Activision is one that won’t have been taken lightly, and it could have a knock-on effect for future industry events. The coronavirus pandemic has already led to many gaming events being canceled in favor of digital events, but if the unrest in America and across the world continues, the organizers may opt to push their events back further.

Call of Duty: Warzone, the free-to-play battle royale game, recently added Duos, one of the game’s most requested modes. The mode plays in the same manner as Warzone’s trios and quads, but the smaller teams means that warfights are often even more crucial, as your odds of survival are that much slimmer.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s next big update lets you play as Captain Price

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is about to receive a slew of new content as part of its Season 4 update, with new playable characters on the way including the fan-favorite Captain Price.

Activision dropped an explosive trailer for the upcoming season, and teased that “The story is far from over”, which could hint at additional content for the game’s single-player campaign. We also got to see a glimpse of Captain Price entering the battle royale mayhem of Warzone, and there’s a peek at the map Scrapyard that debuted in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

All-out war

Warzone, Call of Duty’s free-to-play battle royale mode, has recently added extra steps to combat cheats by introducing new measures such as two-factor authentication. It also reached an impressive milestone of over 60 million players, and continues to be one of the most popular games on the streaming platform Twitch

There’s less than a week left to grind through Season 3’s battle pass before Season 4 kicks off on June 3, but thankfully all players can earn double XP, weapon XP and battle pass tier progression starting Friday (May 29) to Sunday (June 1). If you want to unlock all the cosmetics on offer and recoup some Call of Duty points (Call of Duty’s in-game currency), you won't want to miss out.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The only question is: where we droppin’?

The Valorant beta has ended, so you don’t have to watch Twitch anymore

Riot Games’ competitive team-based shooter, Valorant, has been in beta for almost two months, but the action has now come to an end at 9am PT/5pm BST today (May 28).

Valorant has shot to Twitch stardom due to Riot Games’ rather ingenious plan to only provide beta keys via Twitch drops for viewers. That meant a lot of people watched hours and hours of Valorant in the hopes of getting a key, but only a small minority did.

When the game launches on June 2, all the progress from the Valorant beta will be reset, apart from any rewards that players have earned. Interestingly, if you purchased any skins in the beta, these will not carry over. Instead, you’ll be refunded the Valorant points you spent (the game’s currency) and receive an additional 20% in return. Nice.

Medal of honor

Valorant has been generally well-received by gamers during its closed beta, although it’s faced criticism as it was plagued by cheaters, who managed to disrupt the game early on, and the game suffered from spotty hit-detection, which is a game-breaking bug for a competitive shooter.

Riot Games’ has promised that Valorant will feature new content during the game’s launch window, including a new map, game mode, character and probably loads of new skins for players to buy.

Like any big online release, it will be interesting to see whether Valorant’s servers will be able to cope with a large influx of players at launch. Historically, developers have struggled to cope with initial demand, which always sets the game off on the wrong foot. With such a lengthy beta, though, specifically aimed at generating hype for the game, let’s hope that Riot Games has everything in place to deliver a smooth launch on June 2.

PS Plus games for June includes Call of Duty: WW2 – available to download now

Sony is back with a bang for its PS Plus games for June, with Call of Duty: WW2 available to download from May 26 until July 6.

Many were disappointed by May’s offering of Farming Simulator 2019 and Cities: Skylines, which aren’t exactly blockbuster titles. Both games can also be considered rather niche, so having a popular household name such as Call of Duty to giveaway should sit better with gamers who subscribe to PS Plus.

Call of Duty: WW2, which was well-received by fans and critics alike, turns back the clock to revisit the grueling second world war. It marked a welcome change from the more recent outings in the series that revolved around futuristic warfare, and a return to form for Activision’s annual shooter as a whole.

More on the way

Sony is keeping its cards close to its chest regarding the other free titles it has planned for June, but we’ll know more this week and will update this post accordingly. There has been a couple of rumors circulating that Spider-Man will be the other free title for June, but we’ll have to wait for confirmation to see if that’s true.

If you’re a PS Plus subscriber and would like to download either Farming Simulator 2019 or Cities: Skylines, you can grab both games before they leave rotation on June 1.

Doom Eternal will ditch divisive Denuvo Anti-Cheat with next update

Doom Eternal will kill off the recently added Denuvo Anti-Cheat software in the game’s next update on PC.

After fans reported they were unable to play Doom Eternal’s campaign without installing the divisive anti-cheat software, developer id Software announced that it would be removed in update 1.1.

In a candid post on the Doom subreddit, executive producer at id Software Marty Stratton stressed that the decision to implement Denuvo Anti-Cheat wasn’t forced upon them by Doom Eternal’s publisher Bethesda, and that despite their best intentions, feedback from players has made it clear the company must reevaluate its approach.

“At a minimum we must consider giving campaign-only players the ability to play without anti-cheat software installed, as well as ensure the overall timing of any anti-cheat integration better aligns with player expectations around clear initiatives – like ranked or competitive play – where demand for anti-cheat is far greater.” said Stratton.

Stratton also made it clear that any performance or stability issues players have had with the game are not down to the anti-cheat software. “Many have unfortunately related the performance and stability issues introduced in Update 1 to the introduction of anti-cheat. They are not related.”

Hacked off

Update 1.1 will fix several crashes that are occurring when players equip customizable skins, and the developer has also identified and fixed a number of other memory-related crashes that should improve overall stability.

It’s impressive to see a developer react so swiftly to complaints from a game’s community, particularly as tackling cheats is an issue that is difficult to stop without impeding on players who stick to the rules.

We’ve seen blockbuster titles such as Call of Duty: Warzone wage war on cheats, enabling two-factor authentication and other measures in a bid to deter a small minority who only want to ruin the fun for everyone else.

Lego Super Mario is getting a Cat Mario ‘Power-Up Pack’ – and it’s purrfect

Lego Super Mario arrives on August 1, but that hasn’t stopped Nintendo from showing off a range of new ‘Power-Up Packs’ that players will be able to purchase.

Based on classic costumes from the Super Mario video games, the Power-Up Packs unlock new ways to play with the plastic plumber. You can customize Mario with the classic ‘Fire Mario’ suit, ‘Propeller Mario’ suit, ‘Cat Mario’ suit and the ‘Builder Mario’ suit.

The Fire Mario suit lets our plumber friend shoot fireballs at his enemies, while the Propeller outfit is perfect for high-flying action and airborne tricks. The Cat Mario costume (our favorite pick of the bunch) lets Mario meow like a cat and climb walls to collect extra virtual coins (did we mention Mario will meow like a cat?).

Rounding up the selection of new outfits is the Builder Mario attire, which gives Mario a powerful ground pound attack so he can smash objects (not literally, of course).

It's-a-me, Meow-rio

Each power-up pack will be sold separately and consists of a new hat and dungarees for Mario to wear. You’ll need to own the Lego ‘Starter Course’ if you plan on giving Mario a makeover, which will be priced at $59.99 / £49.99 (around AU$100), as each pack only includes the outfit. Each Power-Up Pack will cost $9.99 / £9.99 (about AU$14.99).

Announced back in March, Lego Super Mario is a surprising collaboration between Nintendo and the Danish toy maker, which adds LCD displays to Mario’s eyes, mouth and chest to enable a unique interactive experience that children can enjoy.

There will be four Lego Super Mario sets to choose from when the toy releases, including a Bowser boss battle and a Piranha Plant kit. Oh, and if you pre-order the Starter Kit today you’ll get a ‘Monty Mole and Super Mushroom Expansion Set’ for free.

Tier’s new electric scooters come with a folding helmet for improved safety

Tier will become the first major electric scooter company to integrate helmets into its vehicles, as a new study has shown electric scooter injuries are on the rise.

Starting this month, Tier is aiming to deploy 200 scooters in Paris and Berlin that will come equipped with the new foldable helmets. The protective helmets fit inside a smart box that sits just below the scooter’s handlebars. Tier hopes to deploy a further 5,000 electric scooters over the summer, each of which will include the new optional safety measure.

As electric scooters become a more economical and viable option for commuters, safety has become a growing concern. In a study published earlier this year, JAMA Surgery found that electric scooter injuries have almost tripled in the last four years. Worse still, only 5% of riders who participated in the study said they wore a helmet, which resulted in one-third of the study’s participants suffering a head injury.

Electric scooter Tier

The company is also experimenting with a new Covid-19 focused technology: an anti-bacterial, self-disinfecting handlebar developed by Protexus. The handlebars will be trialed in Paris and Bordeaux, but hopefully prove effective at stemming the spread of coronavirus infections.

While other e-scooter providers have had to withdraw their fleets from cities during the pandemic, Tier has been operating throughout the crisis with over 40,000 active scooters.

Electric avenue

The UK recently announced that electric scooters would become road-legal from June, but only if you hire them. Previously, you could only ride them on privately owned land (if you had permission). With that about to change, expect to see more electric scooters in the coming months, and hopefully a lot of people wearing helmets.

GTA 5 on PC is now free on the Epic Games Store, and yours to keep forever

GTA 5 is now free to download from the Epic Games Store, which means it’s yours to keep forever if you snag it before May 21. It is now available to download here if you have an Epic Games Store account, though demand is so high that Epic is struggling to meet demand for the time being, so you might struggle to load the page until that's fixed.

Epic has acknowledged this, and a fix is coming.

Part of the Epic Games Store’s ongoing free games promotion, GTA 5 is arguably the biggest title the publisher has given away yet.

Rumors were circulating that Rockstar’s action-adventure epic would be given away for free yesterday, and the news was confirmed by Epic themselves, albeit prematurely, who tweeted the announcement below.

GTA 5 Epic Games Store

The tweet has since been deleted, but not before it was preserved on the internet by eagle-eyed users. Now, the game is live for you to download.

  • GTA 5 cheats: everything you need to get the most out of the game

Making bank

GTA 5 continues to sell a phenomenal amount of units every month and is one of the most critically-acclaimed games of this generation. It’s understandable, then, that fans are eagerly awaiting GTA 6 with fevered anticipation.

Rockstar recently penned a deal with Microsoft to bring its other open-world smash hit, Red Dead Redemption 2, to Xbox Game Pass. You can saddle up right now if you’re a subscriber, and we strongly recommend you do as it’s a typically excellent open world adventure from Rockstar.

To download Grand Theft Auto 5, sign up for an Epic Games Store account and head over to the store. The free games section is clearly marked, so click on GTA 5 and bada bing, bada boom – you’ve got one of the best games of this generation for absolutely nothing. It’s daylight robbery. Note, though, that the store has struggled a little to keep up with demand since the game went live, so you might need to come back later and try again.

Paper Mario: The Origami King unfolds on Nintendo Switch on July 17

There’s a new Paper Mario game coming to Nintendo Switch, and it’s out on July 17.

Paper Mario: The Origami King pits the portly plumber against a folding fiend known as King Olly. He’s left his carefully-placed creases all over the kingdom, and even folded up poor Princess Peach. Unsurprisingly, it’s up to our moustachioed hero to save the day.

Players will need to guide Mario through a paper-crafted world alongside his new sidekick, Olivia, as you battle King Olly’s folded soldiers and encounter familiar enemies from the Mario universe, such as Goombas and Shy Guys. Interestingly, Mario will join forces with unlikely allies – even the big bad himself, Bowser – to help overcome the latest threat.

Mario’s new talent this time around (is there anything he can’t do?) is the 1,000-Fold Arms ability. Mazza can extend his arms to interact with the environment and solve a variety of puzzles, and they’ll also prove useful in battle, too.

Papers, please

Judging by the trailer above, Paper Mario: The Origami King looks like a return to the series roots, with a greater focus on exploration, humor and RPG mechanics. Previous entries for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, such as Paper Mario Color Splash, came under fire for being too simplistic, so hopefully Origami King isn’t a paper thin experience.

Paper Mario: The Origami King is available to pre-purchase digitally for $59.99 (£49.99 / AU$89.99) on Switch, and pre-orders are also available for physical copies.

PS5 won’t be delayed due to Covid-19, Sony confirms

Good news, gamers. Sony has confirmed that the PS5 is still scheduled to release this holiday season (in the US, the holiday season begins in late November and takes in the Christmas period), and won’t be delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. Not yet at least...

Working from home conditions and restrictions to factory operations has raised doubts as to whether PlayStation 5’s release would be impacted, but Sony has weighed in to alleviate any concerns that may be lingering in gamers’ minds.

During its end of year financial report, Sony stated that the PlayStation 5 “remains on track for launch in this holiday season” and that there was “no major issues in game software development” either. Sony did note that things have been difficult during the current global crisis, however.

“Regarding the launch of the PlayStation 5, although factors such as employees working from home and restrictions on international travel have presented some challenges in regards to part of the testing process and the qualification of production lines, development is progressing with the launch of the console scheduled for the 2020 holiday season,” said Sony in its forecast for the coming months. “At this point in time major problems have not arisen in the game software development pipeline for Sony’s own first-party studios or its partners’ studios.”

Encouragingly for Sony, who made less money than it did in 2019, sales of downloadable software and subscriptions to both PS Plus and its cloud streaming service PlayStation Now increased significantly. PS4 hardware also continues to sell well, even though there was a slight impact on production.

While we can’t wait to find out more about Sony’s next-gen console, there are still two massive games on the way for PlayStation 4. We get an extended look at Ghost of Tsushima on May 14 in the latest State of Play episode, and The Last of Us 2 launches on June 19. Just be wary of spoilers out there.

Call of Duty: Warzone has PC cheaters in its sights with new ‘security update’

Call of Duty: Warzone is combating cheaters with a new security measure that will hopefully make life harder for those who want to spoil the fun for everyone.

Aimed specifically at PC players - cheating tends to be more prominent on PCs than on consoles - developer Infinity Ward has added mandatory two-factor authentication for those who are using the free-to-play Warzone client.

Oddly, 2FA is not required for those who access Warzone through Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, i.e. those who've bought the game, meaning that Warzone will potentially still be vulnerable to cheaters.

And considering that PUBG, another game that also isn’t free-to-play, is awash with cheats, it might suggest that people who pay for games will still find a way to break the rules.

Nevertheless, the news that cheaters will have to jump through more hoops before they ruin everyone else’s enjoyment is pleasing. We also found out recently that suspected Call of Duty: Warzone cheaters will be forced to play with each other, and in-game reporting measures are set to greatly improve.

Infinity Ward announced the new measures in a tweet, which you can see below.

It seems that cheating is on the rise, too, as Riot Games' upcoming first-person competitive shooter, Valorant, is already being plagued by hackers, despite the game only being in a closed beta.

Get in the zone

Warzone has attracted over 60 million players and is set to be supported for many years to come, which is a first for publisher Activision’s annualized series. And there's no sign of the momentum slowing, with regular updates and improvements dropping each week.

Ghost of Tsushima is about to get an extended gameplay reveal – here’s when

Sony has announced a new State of Play episode for tomorrow (May 14) that will focus on the upcoming PS4 exclusive, Ghost of Tsushima

The episode will provide an extended look at developer Sucker Punch’s open-world epic, which is coming to PS4 on July 17 after a small delay. The show kicks off at 1pm PT/4pm ET/9pm BST, and you can watch the broadcast on either Twitch or YouTube

Clocking in at 18 minutes, gamers will get to see extended new gameplay footage that showcases Ghost of Tsushima’s exploration, combat and other unique features. Expect to see lots of claret and glistening steel blades.

If you were hoping for any PS5 news or updates, temper your expectations. Sony has said that this State of Play episode is solely focused on Ghost of Tsushima and there won’t be any PS5 announcements. We did get to see the new PlayStation Studios video intro, though, so there’s that.

If you’re interested in Sony’s sword-wielding samurai adventure, pre-orders for Ghost of Tsushima are now live, and you can snag a Collector’s Edition which includes a whole host of game-related goodies.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla might only run at 30FPS on Xbox Series X, the world’s most powerful console

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the 11th main entry in Ubisoft’s long-running franchise, could run at last-gen framerates on Xbox Series X.

Despite boasting 12 teraflops of computational power and support for 120fps, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla looks like it will fall short of hitting the coveted 4K/60fps experience that many gamers crave.

Speaking to Eurogamer Portugal, Ubisoft said, “Currently, we can guarantee that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will run at least 30 FPS. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will benefit from faster loading times, allowing players to immerse themselves in history and the world without friction. Finally Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will benefit from improved graphics made possible by the Xbox Series X, and we can’t wait to see the beautiful world we’re creating in stunning 4K resolution.”

It’s unclear whether a performance mode will be available in the game, which usually drops the resolution in favor of a higher framerate. There’s also a chance that Ubisoft will be able to make further optimizations to the game before launch.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is listed as supporting 4K, HDR and Smart Delivery on Microsoft’s Xbox Series X website, and also features the ‘Optimized for Xbox Series X’ badge.

Nevertheless, it’s disappointing that, despite the addition of a few fancy graphical bells and whistles, the experience will be largely the same on Xbox Series X – performance wise – as it will be on Xbox One X

Microsoft is bullishly claiming that Xbox Series X is the most powerful console ever made, which is admittedly true. However, hitting 4K/60fps might prove to be an ambitious target, with even Nvidia’s top of the range graphics card, the GeForce RTX 2080Ti, struggling to keep a locked 60fps at 4K in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey at max settings.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will invade Xbox Series X (and presumably PS5) when it's released this holiday season. We’re likely to find out more about the game at Ubisoft’s E3-style digital event, Ubisoft Forward, which takes place on July 12.

We've reached out to Ubisoft for comment and will update this article when we hear more.
