Gmail for iOS updated to Material Design standards after four years

Gmail has a new look to it on iOS from today and it’s the look that Android users have been used to for a while now.

Google has updated the look of the Gmail app for iPhone and iPad to reflect Material Design standards and incorporate features like “Undo Send,” instant search results and swiping emails to archive/delete.

Google Calendar also had a few tweaks to support a month view and landscape view for a week. Calendar results will pop up in Spotlight Search. Also, if you follow Hindu, Islamic, Lunar or other non-Gregorian calendars, you have options to view your calendar in those terms, too.

Look to the App Store for that update button on both of these apps.

Gmail embraces Exchange server support in latest Android update

Google realizes that Gmail addresses aren’t for everyone. But even if your digital mail lives on someone else’s server, Google would still like little more than for you at least to be accessing it through its Gmail app. That’s led to developments like the “Gmailify” service we saw debut earlier this year, where Google worked to implement a number of Gmail-like features for users connecting to external Yahoo or Outlook email accounts. Today Google’s got some fresh news about how Gmail’s ...

Google extends mea culpa over ill-conceived, buggy Gmail Mic Drop prank

What did you think of today’s crop of April Fools’ Day pranks? Successes? Mixed bag? Looking at online reactions, some have clearly resonated better than others, but one that’s pretty unambiguously coming up in the “miss” column is Google’s Gmail Mic Drop stunt. Users were able to reply to messages with a mic-drop animation while also effectively closing themselves off to the thread – and it might have been a cute joke, had it not been so easy to ...

Google brings its A game to April Fools’ with Cardboard Plastic, Photos emoji search, and more

While we can probably all agree Google’s first early 2016 April Fools’ Day prank uncharacteristically bombed, a slew of much better gags and hilarious introduction videos for fake products were always expected to debut today. The hoaxes and “crazy features” ultimately went “official” a good number of hours ago, when it was still March 31, ranging as usual from gut-busting to self-deprecating to outright bizarre and… stuff we’d actually like to see happen.Hands down the best, most elaborate and funniest clip (embedded ...

Gmailify brings Gmail features to third-party email accounts

Email may no longer find itself on the top of the list of ways you reach out to communicate with someone online, but even as it sees its star fade a little, it’s still the backbone of the internet’s communication infrastructure. As a result, it’s no surprise how protective we can be of our email addresses, and losing access to an account or being forced to change our address can feel a bit like losing our identity – not to mention creating a major logistical headache in the process. If that’s left you hesitant to check out the options from some other email ...

Google Play Store learns to work with Gmail to highlight the best apps for your upcoming trip

Part of using Gmail means being cool with the fact that Google and its algorithms are constantly scanning your mail (in a hopefully not-at-all-creepy kind of way), using that data to tailor ads for you, as well as advanced features like automatically recognizing messages about upcoming events and adding them to your calendar. Today we learn about some new synergy for Google’s Android apps as it taps into that Gmail data in order to provide you with extra-relevant app ...
