iOS 14 public beta is now available, here’s how to get it

The new iOS 14 public beta is now available for iPhone users. It comes with tons of new features that were announced during the last WWDC 2020, like redesigned screen widgets and more. Now, you must only follow these simple steps to get it running on your device.

Installing the new iOS 14 public beta is quite simple. First, you must make a backup of your iPhone with your Mac or PC, or you can even use the iCloud backup, which Apple recommends. After you have done this, you must then go to Apple’s public beta website on your iPhone and sign up for the beta program if you haven’t already. After doing this, you must click to install iOS 14 and swipe down just enough to tap the Download Profile. After this, you must only dolor the prompts to install the iOS 14 public beta.

Once you have downloaded the profile, go to settings, and tap Profile Downloaded near the top of your device, then tap install on the right corner and enter your passcode if required. You will then have to tap Install a couple more times after reading the consent agreement. After doing all of this, go to Software Update, and you should see the iOS 14 update available, then tap Download and Install. Enjoy!

LinkedIn caught grabbing clipboard content, blames it on a bug that’ll be fixed soon

Earlier this month, TikTok was discovered grabbing clipboard content when users typed on their phone, something the company quickly promised to fix. Now, the LinkedIn app has been spotted copying users’ clipboard content, thanks to the same privacy feature baked into iOS 14 that also caught TikTok red-handed last week.

LinkedIn blamed this intrusive behavior on a bug and mentioned this is not how the app is supposed to function on a day-to-day basis, says a ZDNet report. As per a Urspace.io developer who tweeted about it alongside a video of it in action, the LinkedIn app for iOS copied clipboard content from his MacBook Pro while he was using an iPad Pro.

Erran Berger, VP of Engineering at LinkedIn, later clarified in a tweet that the company doesn’t store or transmit the clipboard content. “We’ve traced this to a code path that only does an equality check between the clipboard contents and the currently typed content in a text box,” he explained.

Safari 14 brings Face ID and Touch ID support for web sign-ins

The latest iteration of Apple’s in-house browser – Safari 14 – adds support for Face ID and Touch ID for website log-ins. What this means is you no longer have to rely on password managers, or remember a complex combination of username and password to access a service on the web.

“Added a Web Authentication platform authenticator using Face ID or Touch ID, depending on which capability is present,” Apple mentions in the beta release notes of Safari 14 for iOS 14 and macOS 11 aka Big Sur. This will be facilitated by the new Web Authentication API that arrives with Safari.

Once it goes live, you can log-in to websites using your biometric signature via iPhones, iPads, or a Mac that comes with either a Face ID or Touch ID module. To check out the technical details as to how it will be implemented in Safari 14, head over to Apple’s developer website where WebKit Engineer Jiewen Tan explains it in detail.

Apple’s Home and tvOS are also getting interesting new features

Alright guys, this was going to be a longer video, but it became too long that there are certain things I had to leave out. For example Home updates like logical light diming and cameras now having facial recognition is awesome. TvOS now having picture in picture while you work out and even AirPlay support in 4K is also cool. Heck even Privacy updates giving you a card like nutrition facts, also epic.. But I can’t go into all of this in detail. The description is full of links with everything. Let’s start with one of my favorites which is actually getting AirPods that are getting smarter than they already were. They now switch automatically between your devices, showing a seamless move without you having to do it manually anymore. If you get a phone call, your audio will switch to whatever device you’re taking the call from. There’s also a new spatial audio feature which aims to recreate an authentic surround experience. It does it by using advanced spacial audio algorithms specifically on the AirPods Pro and it works even if you’re only wearing one ear bud. It tracks if your head or your device moves so the audio moves with you. It’ll work with Dolby 5.1, 7.1 and even Dolby Atmos.

Here are all the changes to Apple Watch in WatchOS 7

Now, let’s move on to WatchOS which is getting some very needed updates. According to Apple there’s now over 20K apps on the App Store and there’s finally a way to actually use them more with Complications. For example, if you’re a runner, you can create a full runner watch face with different apps that focus on running and they interact with your Watch Face. You can share these Watch Faces and download third party ones, even from Safari. The WorkOut app is getting some new modes, including Dancing, Core Training, Cool Down, Fundamentals and more. The Maps now bring you cycling directions and suggestions including new shortcuts like take the stairs and it even let’s you know if you have to carry your bike inside where you’re going. The Activity app was renamed to Fitness, and Sleep Tracking is finally here. It let’s you set a time to wind down, go to bed and then choose a soothing alarm or vibrations. It tracks your heart rate and breathing patterns while you sleep and there’s a detailed sleep schedule and tracking app in the new iOS.

Here’s everything we saw today during Apple’s WWDC 2020

Now, even if I would consider iOS 14 to be the hottest news, it is so connected with everything else, that I have to talk about it now. And yeah, I told you calling it iPhoneOS made no sense. It now gets some inspiration from Apple Watch apps and complications to create widgets. You can either have them on the Today view or as part of your home screen. Oh and that Home screen is changing, sort of. Now there’s an App Library that automatically organizes your apps with simple ways to navigate, so no more of those crazy lists of pages unless you want them, and there’s even an easy way to get rid of them, and even sort apps alphabetically, like finally. Picture in Picture finally makes it as well, with ways to resize or throw the video in the background when you need it. Phone calls and even Siri now don’t take up the entire screen and there’s even a new translations app for up to 11 languages. Other apps like Messages now look more like whatsapp for Groups, the App Store now gets clips for easier app discovery through searches and NFC, and don’t worry I won’t bore you with Apple Maps. The one I care about more is Car Play which now has enhanced options for EVs and even a car key feature that’s coming to 2021 models like the new BMW 5 series coming later this year. I’m really excited about iOS 14. More details on the update in the links in the description.

iPadOS 14 brings a universal search bar and a useful sidebar

Now, even if we thought iPadOS , was more of a blend between new iOS 14 features and some enhancements focused on iPad, it’s getting a whole lot better than we thought. Apple plans to achieve this by making more apps that are specifically catered to the iPad. And yeah, the widgets from iOS 14 are also making it here but probably the biggest change is the new sidebar UI. It works with most apps like Photos, Notes and Files and as an example, if you’re in the Photos app, your photos remain in the center of the display while the sidebar let’s you organize them. You can drag and drop a photo into the sidebar and move it into a different category. This feature basically makes apps like Files on an iPad way better and more logical to use. Moving on to Siri, it won’t take all of the screen now along with calls, which will also be presented in cards at the top, letting you answer or swipe to dismiss. iPadOS also getting a new Universal Search feature, which kind of works like Spotlight Search for the Mac where it even serves for web searches. Finally, the Apple Pencil also got some major changes where Apple wants to make handwriting as powerful as typed text. You can now scribble something and get text and it works the same with shapes. You can also select handwritten text and the neural engine will detect if it’s a drawing or text and it’ll allow you to change color and even copy and paste it.

macOS Big Sur: What’s new?

Alright, let’s say hello to MacOS Big Sur, and guys if you’ve never been to Big Sur, add it to your bucket list. There’s a beautiful marathon that happens there every year. Thing is, it looks like macOS, but the hottest news today is all about how it’s not. Visually though there are a ton of design improvements that make it more cohesive with iOS and iPadOS. Apple has a new designer, we get new symbols, depth shading and translucency, and reduced visual complexity for you to focus on work. Buttons are now enhanced only when you call on them, and now we get new sounds. A major change comes to the task bar wich now has specific buttons for Notifications Center and also control center, more like what you see with Samsung DeX. Oh and those same updates to Messages and Apple Maps come to macOS thanks to Mac Catalyst, which makes it easy to port iPad apps to macOS. Safari also saw a major overhaul with Apple now claiming 50% faster speeds than Chrome, a new UI for Safari Extensions, a Customizable start page, Tab UI updates, Seemless translation and more. But guys this is nothing compared to what’s next.

Story of the day:

It’s official. Apple is moving to custom silicon for Macs starting this year

And finally for the hottest news today, let’s talk Apple Silicone. Like wow, All the demos shown today were on a Mac running on the same A12Z processor found in the new iPad Pro. People have praised Apple for their chips for years, but today was the ultimate test as we saw even Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Apps like Lightroom and Photoshop, and also Microsoft Office, running seamlessly on an ARM based chip. This will be a two year transition where Apple even clarified that we will continue to see Intel-based Macs, the thing is we don’t know for how long, but we should see the first ARM-based Mac along side in the fall. To not create a development nightmare Apple created Universal 2, Rosetta 2 and Virtualization options to allow developers to easily create an app that runs both on Apple Silicon and Intel chips. There’s even a special Mac Mini running the A12Z shipping to developers this week to help them port apps. Guys we even saw iPhone apps running natively on a Mac without a hickup, opening a door to any App Store app to run on the Mac, and we’re even wondering what’s there to hold iPads from running MacOS, like seriously

At last, iOS 14 will let you set a default email and web browser app

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

Back in February, it was reported that Apple might soon allow users to set third-party apps as the default option over the in-house apps that come pre-installed on an iPhone. Today, that rumor turned to reality, thanks to iOS 14 that was showcased by Apple earlier today at its digital-only WWDC20 conference.

Notably, Apple didn’t talk about this feature during the presentation, and it was found buried deep inside the iOS 14 preview changelog. Titled “Set default email and browser apps“, Apple describes the feature as “Set a default web browser and email app that launch when you click a link or want to compose a new mail message.”

In simple terms, Apple will let users replace the Mail app with third-party options such as Gmail or Outlook as the default email app. Likewise, you can choose Chrome, Firefox, or any other third-party web browser as the default option for opening web links instead of Safari. While this is definitely a useful addition for users, it also shows that Apple is willing to loosen some grip on its ecosystem for the benefit of users.

Pocketnow Daily: Apple’s iOS 14 Plans DON’T Make Sense… (video)

Today’s deals include the latest Apple MacBook Air and more

Deals. The latest MacBook Air is $100 off on Amazon, leaving the 8GB of RAM, 256GB of SSD configuration for $899 shipped, but you can get the 512GB variant for $1199. The 2018 11in iPad Pro is getting a $395 discount, leaving the Wi-Fi only, 1TB of storage variant for $954. The 10.5in iPad Air is also $30 off which leaves it at $459. Finally, the Kindle Paperwhite is also $30 off which leaves it at $99 shipped with 2x the storage.

HUAWEI MateBook 13 AMD Edition with Ryzen 5 3500U processor goes official

Huawei just updated their MateBook 13 line with a new AMD Edition. It’s powered by a Ryzen 5 3500U processor and it comes equipped with Radeon Vega 8 Graphics. It has a new 2K Full View Display with an 88% screen to body ratio. According to Huawei it has a new “shark fin-inspired” cooling system that compromises low noise for high performance fans. It also has other features like Dolby Atmos, DDR4 RAM, and PCIe NVMe SSD memory. It starts at £699 for 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD at the Huawei Store and selected retailers.

It seems that Google Chrome will reduce RAM usage with the latest Windows 10 updates

Come on you’ve seen the Linus video, Chrome and RAM don’t get along, especially when it comes to Windows Computers. According to Windows Latest, the recent Windows 10 update introduces new segment heap memory improvements. This is a method to reduce the overall memory usage of Win32 apps like Chrome on the latest versions of Windows. It’s already being used on Microsoft’s Edge which is based on Chromium and it shows memory reduction of up to 27% in some early tests. It’s kind of complicated for Google to simply change this because that would require them to build Chrome on a different Windows SDK but, we hope they update it in the near future.

We could have a real-life leak of the ASUS ROG Phone 3

A couple of days ago we covered how the ASUS ROG Phone 3 went through certifications revealing new specs. Now, we got a new leak from Weibo and it’s actually a hands on image as well as an 8sec video clip of it. The ROG Phone 2 brought 2 cameras and on this picture we can see a bigger camera array with at least three cameras. The ROG Phone 3 is expected to bring a 64MP main sensor capable of 16MP images through pixel binning and we hope that the third sensor is a telephoto instead of a macro lens. The picture also shows a Tencent Games logo at the back which could mean that this is a limited edition variant that could be limited to China. We’ll keep you posted as we’re expecting more leaks to start coming in.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 to arrive with a 60Hz display

If you’ve been watching the show, you know I love the Galaxy Note, and the idea of a smaller Note with the smaller Note 10 was fantastic. Thing is, that was a smaller version with a few changes, and we’ve been covering how this year the larger version will be a dramatic boost, while the small one was still gonna be powerful and flat. Well, it looks like Samsung wants to butcher this variant. According to some new Ice Universe tweets, the regular Galaxy Note 20 will bring a Wide Frame with the flat screen we’re expecting but with FHD+ resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate which he calls a desperate specification. On another tweets he says that this Note 20 will be more like a Note 20 Lite as the specs are far from the Note 20 Ultra’s which could simply be the Plus variant. He also believes that this decision by Samsung is to make consumers aim for the more expensive Note 20+, which makes no logical sense in today’s economy.

Story of the day:

Is Apple going to rename iOS to iPhoneOS?

And finally, for the hottest news today, let’s talk iPhone 12, or should I say iOS 14.. Or should I even say that might not be the name any more. We’ve actually had a considerable amount of leaks for this year’s WWDC but, none of them concerning iOS. Well, Jon Prosser which has been relatively quiet about WWDC just chimed in, sort of. He recently tweeted out iPhone OS, hinting to Apple going back to the original naming scheme. If you think about it, it actually makes sense considering that now we have iPadOS, MacOS, WatchOS, TvOS, and the fact that if you know your history, you’ll know Apple had to license iOS to Cisco when they launched the original iPad 10 years ago. On the tweet, XDA’s Max Weinbach answered saying he got a random email from someone saying that they would be renaming iOS to iPhoneOS and the iPhone to the Apple Phone. Now, we seriously doubt that they will be changing the iPhone’s name considering it will still be called iPhoneOS after all. We’re also wondering if this might be the death of the iPod Touch which is pretty much the only other device using iOS now that the iPad moved on from it. It’s the reason why iOS was used back in the day Subscribe: http://bit.ly/pocketnowsub http://pocketnow.com Follow us: http://flipboard.com/@Pocketnow http://facebook.com/pocketnow http://twitter.com/pocketnow http://google.com/+pocketnow

Apple’s Podcasts app might get personalized recommendations with iOS 14

Apple’s online-only WWDC that starts on June 22 will mark the official debut of iOS 14, but details about the changes it brings have been trickling down the leak arena for a while now. Now, a fresh 9to5Mac report claims that iOS 14 will introduce a revamped Podcasts app that will finally bring personalized recommendations for users.

What this means is the app will analyze the preference and listening habits of users, and will accordingly suggest new podcasts. Apple Music already has a For You section that recommends playlists and albums based on the music users are listening to, and so does Podcasts‘ main rival – Spotify – where it exists under the name Made For You.

Additionally, the report adds that iOS 14 will also introduce an option that lets creators dole out bonus content to their listeners. This bonus content will reportedly exist in the same feed as the podcast, but will be listed separately from the main episodes of a show. We’ll get to know more when Apple officially gives us our first look at iOS 14 next week.

There are some fantastic deals on Amazon and B&H, with Father’s Day in mind

Deals. Samsung currently has the Galaxy S20 5G for $200 off, leaving it at $800 shipped for the 128GB of storage variant. B&H also has the latest MacBook Air for $100 off, leaving it at $899 and Amazon is matching the deal as well. The latest MacBook Pro is also $100 off, starting at $1200. Finally, the Surface Go 2 is available for $40 off, leaving the 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for $510. We have more deals on iPads, Jabra earbuds and more in the links in the description.

Google testing low-latency gaming mode for its upcoming ‘Sabrina’ Android TV dongle

Earlier this month we covered how Google is working on a new Android TV dongle called Sabrina. According to a new report from XDA, this device might bring a low-latency gaming mode feature, meaning it’s a replacement for the Chromecast Ultra and not the regular Chromecast. Inside a pre-installed System app called “SabrinaService” there is a reference to a feature called “ALLM” which stands for Auto Low Latency Mode which is an HDMI feature that allows a console, PC or other devices to enter low-latency mode to provide a lag-free experience. This means Sabrina would automatically turn on this feature for either Stadia or video streaming services.

Leaked iOS 14 code shows iMac schematic with slimmer bezels

There’s been a lot of buzz around the changes we’ll be getting at this year’s WWDC, including Macs with ARM chips and a redesigned iMac. According to a new leak on Twitter, there’s a schematic in the latest iOS 14 code that shows the new iMac. The source put a picture comparing the old schematic to the new one and it pretty much looks like the Pro Display XDR. Based on the schematic the tipster did a render and he also said that it should look like the Pro Display XDR, let’s just hope it doesn’t cost the same and the stand actually comes attached to it.

Microsoft Surface Duo launch could be just weeks away

It looks like we won’t have to wait much for the Microsoft Surface Duo after all. We were expecting this product to launch by this year’s Holidays after the pandemic delayed the Duo, the Neo and Windows 10X in general. According to a new leak from Twitter, Microsoft wants to launch the Duo before the Galaxy Fold 2 comes out. This means we should get it some time during July as we’re expecting the Fold on August 5th. The tipster doesn’t specify a launch date but he does claim that the Surface Duo should start shipping in less than two months. Specs still haven’t changed, including a Snapdragon 855, 6GB of RAM and dual 5.6in displays.

Take a look at these alleged iPhone 12 molds and CAD images

Some new molds for the upcoming iPhones have emerged on Twitter. These are the pretty standard ones we get each year but, there’s some differences on these ones. First off, we have the four different models we’re expecting this year and they do show the new squared design which kinda mimics the iPad Pros. However, these seem to have a regular sized notch and not the smaller one we were supposed to get according to the leaks. The LiDAR sensor isn’t on the camera array as well but, that was the case for the iPad Pro renders. Of course these are just molds and we do get changes when the actual product launches.

Story of the day:

Google Pixel 4a delayed, again?

And finally the hottest, or should I say most WTF news of the day, let’s talk about Google’s hardware division. Like talk about shooting itself in the foot. So, if you remember, Google practically killed all of the hype for the Google Pixel 4a. So much buzz around the phone, and then a crazy delay. Like the Verge even put out an article titled “Where is the Pixel 4a?” Well and now, Jon Prosser is back with another update. According to his tweet, Google has delayed the phone once again. He claims that the launch will still happen on July 13th but the phone is now listed to be launched on October 22nd. Oh, and that’s only the black variant as the new “Barely Blue” is just gone from the listing. Thing is, if you’ve ever seen the Pixel 3a in black, you’ll know why we all went for the white and purple variants. It’s horrendous.

Apple may give full Apple Pencil support and built-in translator to Safari

It seems that Apple may be working to give Safari some new features. According to information found on an early build of iOS 14 obtained by 9to5Mac, we may soon get a built-in translator and full Apple Pencil support on websites.

The new features that may be coming with iOS 14 include a built-in translator and Apple Pencil support to the Safari browser. The built-in translator would let users get automatic translations, as it would detect the language to translate the content correctly. It would also switch languages between the original content and the translated text without the need of reloading the page.

This may be the first step for a bigger plan, since Apple may want to expand this feature across its system. These translations would be processed locally with the Neural Engine, meaning that it would still work without an internet connection and wouldn’t send data to Apple. The new Apple Pencil support would also help to browse, scroll, draw, and more in Safari.

You won’t believe all the deals that are available today from Apple, Samsung, LG and more

Deals. We have a bunch of deals to start the month of the June. Let’s start off with the latest 13in MacBook Pro which is $200 off on Amazon and Best Buy. This means you can get it for as low as $1099 for the 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage variant. You can get other prices depending on the configuration. Amazon also has the Samsung Galaxy S10, bundled with the 44mm Galaxy Watch Active 2 for $999, you can also get it for $850 if you go for the 40mm variant. The LG G8 ThinQ is $350 off, leaving it at $400 shipped. We have more deals on the Google Pixel Slate, iPads, Apple Watches, Sony headphones and more in the links in the description.

Sony postpones PlayStation 5 event on June 4 due to ongoing unrest

Last week we covered how Sony would be hosting an event on June 4th to showcase their newest game titles for the upcoming PS5 but it looks like that won’t be the case. The company just announced that they will be postponing their event as they feel that right now is not a time to celebrate and that more important voices should be heard at the moment. The company hasn’t revealed when the event will happen but, we’ll keep you posted. Bravo Sony. Thank you for taking a stand.

Android 11 leak shows a redesigned power button menu, controls for smart devices

Google delays Android 11 Beta Launch Show event scheduled for June 3

Now, even if Google just postponed their Android 11 Developers Preview Event that was happening on June 3rd, we have some Android 11 leaks. The event was postponed indefinitely due to the protests and the situation in the US but they claim the full Android 11 launch won’t be delayed. These new leaks come from Twitter and they basically show us the Power Button menu where we see 5 controls like Emergency, Power Off, Restart, Screenshot as well as a new Quick Controls menu which shows your smart devices and wallet access. The leak also shows that we will be getting a UI redesign at least in things like these. Google, also thank you for taking a stand.

if your iPhone runs on iOS 13, it could also get the new iOS 14 update

For those of you battling a tough economy, holding on to your device a bit longer is always a welcome relief, and you know Apple does that best. We have a new leak of which devices will be getting iOS 14 this year. We should take this with a grain of salt as this source doesn’t have the greatest track record but, according to them some inside sources claim that all devices running iOS 13 will be able to run iOS 14. This means that if you still have an iPhone 6s or iPod Touch7th gen or later, you’ll be able to get the update. They didn’t provide any information on iPads but we’re hoping it’ll be the same case if this actually happens.

Galaxy Note 20 might be able to pack a battery as big as the Galaxy Note 20+

I think one of the biggest deterrents of the small Galaxy Note 20 was that you weren’t getting a Galaxy Note Quality battery, and it looks like Samsung noticed. Apparently the company doesn’t want to cheap out on the batteries for the Galaxy Note 20 line. It just went through China’s 3C Certification and it shows that the regular Galaxy Note 20 will bring a 4300 mAh battery that’s rated at 4170 mAh. As a reference, last year’s Note 10 brought a 3500 mAh battery while the Note 10+ brought a 4300 mAh battery. According to another leak we got last week, the Note 20+ will bring a 4500 mAh battery so Samsung is closing that gap between the two variants.

Story of the day:

New images of alleged iPhone 12 dummy units suggest some changes

iPhone 12 allegedly begins mass production in 3Q20 with October launch in sight

And finally the hottest news today has to do with iPhones, and the fact that things might not be so bad for the launch timing, nor components. According to a new DigiTimes report, this year’s iPhones won’t get the regular September launch and we’ll have to wait until October, which switches things from the November we had heard. Due to the travel bans Apple hasn’t been able to send enough engineers to China which has delayed the production. DigiTimes also claims that the 6.1in iPhone will start production earlier than the rest. This is the iPhone that will allegedly bring the LG and BOE displays. The report suggests that this may happen to make sure that these panels meet the quality standards as LG display has had issues in the past. The Samsung displays on the other 3 are also easier to manufacture as they eliminate a separate touch layer. We also have some dummies of the iPhone 12 line up from MacOtakara which show the 4 designs but these don’t show the smaller notch that we’re expecting.

if your iPhone runs on iOS 13, it could also get the new iOS 14 update

Every time we get a new software update, we wonder just which devices will get it. Apple has done a great job in updating some of its older iPhone models, even though it had to throttle some processors to preserve the batteries in its devices, something it will eventually have to pay for. Now, a new iOS 14 update is on the horizon, and it seems that it could be available for any iPhone and iPod that currently runs iOS 13.

According to the information posted by The Verifier, you will be able to install iOS 14 in your device if it’s running iOS 13. This information allegedly comes from a trusted source from the system development process, meaning that the iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, X, XR, XS Max, XS, 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, SE 2020, and the 7th generation iPod Touch would get the new software. iOS 14 is expected to be presented in the next all-digital WWDC event, which is supposed to take place on June 22. As for iPad OS 14, there is still no information that tells us if this new software will be available for every iPad model that runs iPadOS 13.

An early iOS 14 build was leaked in February and then circulated online among hackers

Lately, we have come across some major iOS 14 leaks such as a Clips system for testing apps, a redesigned multitasking interface, and a new app for scanning custom Apple QR codes to name a few. It appears that these details originated from a leaked iOS 14 build that has been making rounds of the security and jailbreaking community since February.

As per a Vice report, the leaked version is dated December 2019 and is widely being circulated among hackers and security researches since then. Sources claim that an iPhone 11 running an early build of iOS 14 was purchased by vendors in China and then the internal build was extracted from it, eventually making it to the hands of many people.

Security experts who examined the code of iOS 14’s leaked build claim it provides an unusually high amount of information about an unreleased Apple software. Notably, this build was traded on Twitter and has been distributed in the jailbreaking community too. But this is a very early build, which means a lot could change when the final version is released in September.

iOS 14 might introduce a new AR app to read custom Apple QR codes

The next iteration of Apple’s mobile OS, tentatively called iOS 14, might introduce a new augmented reality app called Gobi. The app will help scan custom Apple QR codes that rely on colorful patterns such as cones of varied sizes and a unique central pattern instead of a matrix of random dots we see on typical QR codes.

The leak, which comes courtesy of former TechCrunch reporter Josh Constine, includes QR code files that opened destinations such as Mac Pro and Apple Watch websites, Star Wars: Rogue One movie listing in iTunes Store, and even a Starbucks Card sign-up prompt among others.

It appears these custom QR cards will also be used for some form of commerce partnership. For example, certain QR codes will help users score discounts and other offers at Starbucks outlets based on location data. iOS 14 will also make a few improvements to Apple’s Find My app by introducing haptic and sound cues to help users find their device.
