Google prepping affordable ‘Pixel Buds A’ whose details just got leaked

Google is reportedly readying a new – and more affordable – true wireless earbuds that will allegedly debut under the name Pixel Buds A. As per a report by 9to5Google that cites sources familiar with the latest developments, the upcoming earbuds will follow the same strategy as the Pixel 3a or Pixel 4a – offering the core Google hardware experience for less.

Google is replicating the same formula for earbuds as the cheaper Pixel ‘A’ phones

Starting with the design, the Pixel Buds A will allegedly have a build identical to that of the Pixel Buds, but with a few color profile tweaks. To start, they will have a uniform white or green grain paintjob, instead of following the two-tone approach taken by the Pixel Buds which make use of black for all color options. Essentially, you’re looking at all-white earbuds with a matching white case, ear tips, as well as wings.

As for the second color option, it will reportedly go for a darker shade of green compared to what you see on the Mint Green colorway of the Pixel Buds. The ear tips, wings, and innards of the charging case will all be covered in the same shade of green for a uniform look. It appears that Google will match the color of Pixel Buds A with those of the upcoming Pixel 5a trims, but that’s just speculation.

Pixel Buds A will reportedly come in two colors with touch gesture support

Talking about the features that you’ll get on the more affordable Google earbuds, they’ll offer support for touch controls to let users attend calls, control music playback, and summon the virtual assistant. However, it is unclear what corners Google is going to cut in order to price the Pixel Buds A lower than the vanilla Pixel Buds which currently go for $179.

As per a previous leak, new Google-branded wireless earbuds will make their debut in mid-April. Earlier this month, two earbuds carrying the model numbers ‘GPQY2’ and ‘G7YPJ’ were spotted on the US FCC database (via 9to5Google), with almost the same dimensions as the standard Pixel Buds. Following their alleged FCC sighting, it is quite likely that the Pixel Buds A will make their debut in the near future – probably around June or earlier – rather than the typical fall event when new Pixel hardware drops.

Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is still $325, more Android phones are also on sale

Save big bucks on Apple’s M1 Mac mini, Dell computers and more

iPhone 12 BOGO deals, iPad Pros and more devices are also on sale

Of course, the news today begin with deals, cause you know those haven’t stopped being great. Let’s start with Verizon which has a Buy One Get One Free deal for the iPhone 12 where you get the second phone and a bonus 250 dollars in credit. Moving on to Amazon for a second, the M1 Mac mini is currently 100 dollars off, leaving it at 800 shipped. Samsung is still running their Spring Deals where you can get the Galaxy S21 for 100 bucks, the S21 Plus for 300 bucks and the Ultra for 500 bucks, if you have an eligible device for trade-in. Back to Amazon, the OnePlus 8 is 200 dollars off, leaving it at 500 bucks. And we have more deals on iPads, Amazon Echo Speakers, other Samsung products and more.

Samsung’s app confirms a new pair of wireless earbuds are coming soon

Let’s move the spotlight on to Samsung as, it looks like the company wants to expand their wireless earbuds market. So far they have 4 models out with the Buds, Buds+, Buds Live and the new Buds Pro, which happen to be my favorite out of the bunch. Now it looks like those regular Buds are getting a refresh. The guys from Android Police just did a teardown on the Galaxy Wearable’s app APK where you can see multiple references to some “Galaxy Buds 2” which are apparently codenamed Berry. According to the report we could expect these around the end of the year with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with some updated features like multi-point connectivity, better call quality and better water resistance. We have no leaks on design so far but, they should look pretty similar to their predecessors considering Samsung’s other buds. We’ll see what we get.

Xiaomi’s Mi MIX Fold is an inward-folding smartphone like the Galaxy Z Fold2

Moving back to official news, let’s talk about Xiaomi as after years of concepts, the company finally launched their first foldable smartphone, the Mi MIX Fold. The Mix Fold brings an inward folding design, kind of like what you get from Samsung’s Z Fold. It brings an 8-inch main display running at 60 Hz, and a 6.5-inch cover display running at 90Hz. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 with up to 16 Gigs of RAM and half a terabyte of storage, along with a 5020 mAh battery. When it comes to the cameras, Xiaomi is bringing a triple setup with a 108MP main sensor, a 13MP ultra wide and an 8MP “liquid lens” that offers 3x optical zoom and doubles as a macro lens. Now, Xiaomi is offering new features to let you take advantage of the larger canvas like a dedicated “desktop mode” that turns it into well.. A desktop instead of the regular Android UI. It is set to be available in China for around 1521 dollars but, we have no word on a global release. But yeah man that price tag doesn’t sound so bad when compared to others.

The next-gen Apple chip powering iPhone 13 enters production in May

Once again, we’ll be splitting the hottest news into 2 Apple segments because.. Sometimes they’re worth it? According to a new report from DigiTimes, Apple’s A15 chip will begin production in May which aligns with Cupertino’s usual fall timeline. Now, the A15 will still be built on the same 5nm architecture we got on the A14 and the M1 chips but, we should still see improvements when it comes to performance and efficiency through the silicon’s design. However, the report mentions that Cupertino has already ordered TSMC’s 4 nanometer chips which will begin production in late 2021. The report speculates that these will be first used in a new generation of Mac chips that we could expect in Spring 2022. So yeah, we could reportedly expect new Macs with 4nm chips next Spring, though let’s hope that Spring event does happen.

Story of the day:

Mark your calendars! Apple WWDC 2021 starts June 7 as an online-only event

And Finally for the hottest news today, part 2, and speaking of Spring, for the hottest news today let’s talk Apple and Events but.. It’s not what we were expecting. Now that the March event didn’t happen, we’ve been waiting for some sort of announcement from Cupertino and well, the company just sent out press invitations for WWDC 2021 which will be an online-only event once again, happening from June 7th to June 11th. Apple says that they will be offering “unique insight into the future of: iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS.” Pretty much like last year they’re expecting around 28 million developers to join the show and that’s all great but let’s speculate for a minute. For the past couple of year’s we’ve had major announcements like the return of the Mac Pro, and the Apple Silicon transition this year. And right now, Apple has a ton of products in the pipe line like those new iPad Pros, the AirTags, new AirPods which I won’t count out even from a silent release at least by Thursday.

Samsung’s app confirms a new pair of wireless earbuds are coming soon

Samsung launched a new pair of true wireless earbuds – dubbed the Galaxy Buds Pro – not too long ago in January. They brought features such as Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), a Voice Detect feature for intelligently switching from ANC to Ambient Mode, automatic switching between two connected devices, and more. Now, it appears that a new pair of wireless earbuds are in the pipeline, and the confirmation for it comes from Samsung’s own companion app.

Codenamed 'Berry', the Galaxy Buds2 will support multi-device pairing

First spotted by the folks over at Android Police, the latest build of Samsung’s Galaxy Wearable app more or less confirms the arrival of new wireless earbuds. The code of the app clearly mentions the name ‘Galaxy Buds2’ alongside the codename ‘berry’ for Samsung’s upcoming audio wearable. The report adds that the name ‘Galaxy Buds2’ spotted in the code is not just a generic placeholder, and that an actual product with that name will be launched soon and will connect via the Galaxy Wearable app.

The code also mentions that the Galaxy Buds2 will support multi-device pairing, just like the Galaxy Buds Pro. And most likely, they will also offer support for seamless device switching. So, if the upcoming earbuds are paired to a tablet while watching a movie and a call comes on your connected phone, the audio output will instantly switch to the phone to let users attend the call.

Unfortunately, that’s everything we know about the Galaxy Buds2 at this point. There is no word when they will be launched, but the next Unpacked event seems to be the most likely platform. And if rumors are anything to go by, Samsung is also readying a new batch of foldable for its next major launch event, now that a new Galaxy Note series phone for 2021 has been nixed. Samsung is also rumored to launch an ‘affordable’ foldable phone tentatively called Galaxy Fold Lite, and of course, the Galaxy Z Fold3 as well with stylus support in tow is also in the pipeline.

The next-gen Apple chip powering iPhone 13 enters production in May

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

We’ve been hearing a lot of chatter about the iPhone 13 series lately, which includes upgraded camera hardware and a more fluid 120Hz panel to name a few. Now, a fresh report from DigiTimes (via Macrumors) claims that the next-gen chip powering the upcoming iPhone 13 series as well as iPads in the pipeline will enter production in May. Tentatively called the A15 Bionic, it will succeed the A14 Bionic that is at the heart of the iPhone 12 quartet.

“Apple has already booked the initial capacity of TSMC’s N4 for its new-generation Mac series, the sources indicated. Apple has also contracted TSMC to make its next-generation iPhone processor dubbed A15, built using the foundry’s N5 Plus or N5P process node, the sources said.
TSMC is expected to kick off production for Apple’s A15 Bionic chip that will power the upcoming iPhone 13 series by the end of May, the sources noted.”

As per the report, the Bionic A15 Bionic chip inside iPhone 13 series will be based on the 5nm process – specifically, the N5P or N5 Plus process and will be made by longtime Apple supplier TSMC. To recall, the A14 Bionic is also based on the 5nm process. However, at this point, it is unclear what improvements and the kind of performance gain the A15 Bionic will bring over its predecessor. And if Apple’s product strategy in the past few years is anything to go by, we might also see a slightly tweaked version with the name A15X or A15Z that will go inside the iPad lineup in the foreseeable future.

Apple has already booked TSMC to make 4nm-based silicon for upcoming Macs

And in case you’re wondering about Apple sticking to the same 5nm fabrication process for its chips in 2021 as well, there is some good news. The DigiTimes report adds that Apple has already roped in TSMC for making 4nm-based chips for its in-house M-series silicon that will power the upcoming Macs in 2022. For the remainder of 2021, Apple is rumored to launch updated MacBooks and even an iMac powered by what leaks are calling the M1X processor.

Two years later, YouTube has finally made up its mind about dislikes

In February of 2019, YouTube Product Manager Tom Leung, shared a video in which he talked about dealing with the Dislike button. Back then, he proposed solutions against abusive use of the Dislike button which included everything from asking users to submit a reason before their dislike is registered to altogether removing the button. Well, two years later, YouTube has apparently made up its mind – hiding the dislike count for a small bunch of users.

Creators will be able to see the dislikes count on YouTube Studio

The official YouTube handle on Twitter has revealed that the company is currently hiding the number of dislikes on videos. However, the change is being tested only for a small number of users. YouTube says that it is experimenting with hiding the dislikes counter after receiving feedback from creators about the impact of this disheartening metric on their mental health. Additionally, it will allow the company to tackle the menace of targeted dislike campaigns, or the dreaded ‘dislike mobs’ that have become a major nuisance lately.

However, creators will still be able to see the exact number of dislikes registered on their video by accessing the YouTube Studio dashboard. As for users in the test circle for whom the dislike count has been hidden, they will still be able to register their displeasure with a video by tapping the thumbs down button.

Users will still be able to register their dislike despite the number being hidden

Over the past few years, dislike bombing has become the weapon of choice for online communities to make their displeasure known, be it over genuinely bad content or with some ulterior motive. Take for example the 2018 YouTube Rewind, which raked in an impressive 10 million dislikes in just over a week. However, the dislike mob can also be politically motivated, gamers annoyed by a publisher’s shady move, or fans of a movie simply review bombing the content from a rival star or franchise.

While channels run by studios or corporations don’t have much to lose over dislike counts, those by individual creators have to suffer from the abuse in comments and the stress of accumulating a huge number of dislikes, especially if they didn’t deserve all that hate. It remains to be seen if, or when, YouTube enforces its hidden dislikes count policy widely.

Google’s new document scanner app has some cool tricks up its sleeve

Google’s Area 120 incubator recently came up with a solution called ThreadIt that allows users to record and share videos as links on mobile and desktop. Now, the company’s experimental products division has released (via AndroidPolice) another app called Stack, which describes itself as a PDF scanner and document scanner built into a single app.

Did I tell you that it is free, and without ads?

As you might have guessed by now, it allows users to scan documents such as bills and receipts and quickly turns them into PDF files. Additionally, it is also able to import images from your camera roll and turn them into documents. However, the Stack app does more than just scan your documents.

The best part about the Stack app is that it lets you search through your scanned documents, thanks to optical character recognition (OCR) technology. And another huge convenience is that the app is fully ad-free, and it does not require you to pay for it upfront either.

google stack

As per the Stack app’s description on the Google Play Store, it can automatically name your files and accordingly organizes your important documents into categories such as vehicles, banking, bills, receipts, ID, and home to name a few. Additionally, it can automatically identify important details such as the total amount and transaction date on a bill, and makes it easy for users to find them.

It names and sorts your scanned documents into relevant categories.

In case you’re worried about the safety of your important documents, you can protect those files in the Stack app behind a layer of biometric security such as fingerprint or face unlock. And to make sure that your data is safe in case something happens to your phone, you can back it all up to your Google Drive.

The Stack app is currently listed for download on the Google Play Store and looks like a great app for organizing and keeping track of your important documents. And for folks like me who often switch phones, the automatic Google Drive feature is a godsend convenience.

Spotify is going all-in on the hottest social media trend right now

Ever since the pandemic struck, one trend that has suddenly skyrocketed to social media stardom is live audio or chatrooms. Popularized by Clubhouse, users are able to hold a live audio chat session that others can tune in to. Twitter was quick to jump on the opportunity with Spaces. Then came Facebook with its own audio chatroom ambitions. Even Telegram and Slack have embraced it. And the latest name to jump the bandwagon is music streaming giant Spotify.

“Creators and fans have been asking for live formats on Spotify, and we’re excited that soon, we’ll make them available to hundreds of millions of listeners and millions of creators on our platform. The world already turns to us for music, podcasts, and other unique audio experiences, and this new live audio experience is a powerful complement that will enhance and extend the on-demand experience we provide today.”
Gustav Söderström, Chief Research & Development Officer at Spotify

Spotify has acquired Betty Labs, the creator of a live audio app called Locker Room. In the coming months, the company aims to leverage its reach and expertise to open Locker Room to more creators and create content catering to a wide range of genres. In its press release, Spotify has announced that it will rope in writers, musicians, professional athletes, and globally renowned personalities to produce content ranging from AMA (Ask Me Anything) sessions to live discussions and debates.

The company adds that it will exploit insights and data from its music streaming platform to create a huge diversity of live as well as on-demand shows for its users across the globe. Right now, Spotify hasn’t specified if, or when, Locker Room will continue to exist as a standalone service, or if it will be merged with the eponymous music streaming brand. However, Betty Labs founder and CEO Howard Akumiah notes that they will open the experience to Spotify’s massive user base, and that the content will expand beyond the realm of sports and into the world of music and culture as well.

Mark your calenders! Apple WWDC 2021 starts June 7 as an online-only event

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

Apple has announced the date for its next WWDC. The WWDC 2021 will be an online-only event for the second year in a row. Who would’ve thought the pandemic would hit us so hard? The upcoming event starts on June 7 and will go on till June 11. It will be free for all developers. Apple says it will offer “unique insight into the future” of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. For the unaware, Apple usually releases new builds of its wide range of OS.

“Building on the record-breaking participation and learnings from last year’s online conference, WWDC21 is an opportunity for developers to learn about the new technologies, tools, and frameworks they rely on to build innovative and platform-differentiating apps and games,” said Apple in its blog post.

WWDC21 will provide Apple’s worldwide community of more than 28 million developers with the information and tools needed to turn their ideas into reality. This year’s conference will include announcements from the keynote and State of the Union stages, online sessions, 1:1 labs offering technical guidance. It will also offer new ways for developers to interact with Apple engineers and designers to learn about the latest frameworks and technologies.

Further, Swift Student Challenge, an opportunity for young developers to demonstrate their coding skills by creating a Swift playground, is now accepting submissions. Now through April 18, students can submit their Swift playground to the Swift Student Challenge. Winners will receive exclusive WWDC21 outerwear and a pin set.

Last year, Apple spent a lot of time talking about its shift to in-house chips for the Macs. While new hardware isn’t what WWDC is about, Apple has announced few hardware products at its conference in the past. At WWDC 2019, it announced a new Mac Pro, while at WWDC 2017, it launched the HomePod smart speaker, a new iPad Pro as well as updated iMac desktops.

Xiaomi’s Mi MIX Fold is an inward-folding smartphone like the Galaxy Z Fold2

Xiaomi’s first foldable smartphone is here, and as opposed to the rumored Huawei Mate X-like design, it features a Galaxy Z Fold2-like inward folding display. The Mi MIX Fold comes after Xiaomi teased a foldable smartphone two years ago. The device packs all the high-end features that a flagship smartphone should offer. However, it misses out on a high refresh rate.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold comes equipped with an 8–inch display on the inside that can be folded. It offers a resolution of 2480 x 1860 and a 60Hz refresh rate. You don’t get a selfie shooter on the inside, which means it is an uninterrupted display. On the outside lies a 6.5-inch, 2520 x 840 90Hz OLED panel. The company claims that Mi MIX Fold’s hinge can sustain over a million folds without issues. It comes with four stereo speakers, tuned by Harman/Kardon. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888.

In the optic department, the Mi MIX Fold sports a triple rear camera setup that includes a 108MP main camera, 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a new, self-developed 8MP “liquid lens” that doubles as a 3x optical zoom lens and a macro lens. The 8MP camera is powered by Xiaomi’s own Surge C1 ISP. According to the company, this chip can process faster autofocus, better white balance, and higher dynamic range. It packs the largest battery found on a foldable smartphone yet – 5,020mAh.

The UI offers a dedicated “desktop mode” that turns the interface into a traditional computer UI instead of an Android UI. The device is all set to be made available in China. However, there is no word on global launch yet. The device starts at 9,999 yuan (around $1,521), which is the cheapest for an inward-folding smartphone in the likes of Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Huawei Mate X2.

LinkedIn Cover Stories can lead you to a job

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

Since Snapchat introduced the feature first, Stories have been adopted by several social media apps, including Instagram, WhatsApp, FaceBook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and more! We are at a point where all social media apps share almost the same set of features but with different product designs and colors. However, Stories mostly share the same objective – to update your friends. Now, LinkedIn is introducing a new way to use the stories to your advantage.

Today, the company has announced that LinkedIn profiles will now allow users to add short “cover letter” videos to their LinkedIn profiles. As per the official blog post, nearly 80% of hiring managers view video as an important tool for vetting potential job-seekers.

Moreover, LinkedIn’s CPO Tomer Cohen said the feature will allow users to “personalize your first ‘hello’” to fellow community members and recruiters. Profiles with Video cover stories will show an orange ring around their profile photo. Once opened, the video will play like a usual Story within a frame. Moreover, the support for captioning will be arriving “soon.”

Apart from the LinkedIn Cover Stories, the company has rolled out few more new features. You can now include an optional field at the top next to your name. It will let you specify your preferred pronouns. Moreover, LinkedIn is building tools that will help showcase the specific skills of its users. It includes a new “creator mode” as well as a dedicated services page that will prove useful especially for freelancers and contractors.

The former will turn LinkedIn users into veritable industry influencers. Additionally, the “connect” button on the top of a user’s page can be changed to a “follow” button to help build engagement. In creator mode, the Featured and Activity sections will be more prominently displayed. Users can also add hashtags to their profiles for topics specific to their interests.
