Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 SE, Mi Band 3 images surface ahead of launch

Chinese smartphone-maker Xiaomi is all set to launch its latest flagship device, the Mi 8, MIUI 10 and the Mi Band 3 at its eighth annual event in China on 30 May and ahead of the launch, some images of the Mi 8, Mi 8 SE and the Mi Band 3 have surfaced online.

After Mi 6, Xiaomi has skipped the Mi 7 and it has decided to go with the Mi 8 as this is Xiaomi’s eighth anniversary. Earlier, Xiaomi was expected to launch only the Mi 8 at the event, but leaked press images have revealed that the company will also launch a Special Edition Mi 8 dubbed as Mi 8 SE.

Xiaomi had earlier revealed that the Mi 8 will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 SoC and the Mi 8 SE is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 710 SoC. The image has also revealed that both the device will feature notch displays and the Mi 8 SE will feature a smaller display compared to the Mi 8.

Additionally, promo images of the Xiaomi Mi 8 have been spotted on Slashleaks, revealing the design and some features of the device. The image reveals the notch display, bottom chin, AI dual rear camera setup and the fingerprint sensor at the back.

Xiaomi has posted an image on Twitter with the Mi logo in the middle which is surrounded by eight images of landmarks from eight different countries. These landmarks are placed in an ‘8’, hinting that these are the countries where the Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE may be launched.

The eight counties include India, Egypt, Spain, Russia, France, Vietnam, Thailand and Italy. While China is not mentioned in this image, the devices will be launched in China initially and then make their way to other countries. Xiaomi has scheduled an event in India on 7 June and it is expected to launch the Redmi Y2 at the event.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE will both feature a notch display and dual rear cameras. The Mi 8 retail box had revealed that the device will have 3D face recognition and 3D AR emojis like iPhone X’s Animoji. A teaser posted on Weibo by the company’s official account has teased the Animoji-like feature from Xiaomi, revealing characters such as Xiaomi’s official mascot, a fox, a pig and a panda singing the company’s tune.

The Mi Band 3 has also been leaked, revealing the display of the device and as reported earlier, it is expected to feature a 2.5D curved display. Earlier, it was being speculated that Xiaomi might ditch the physical button but the new leak hints that Xiaomi may retain the physical button below the display.

Vivo X21 with 6.28-inch notch display, in-display fingerprint sensor launched in India

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo launched the Vivo X21, the company’s latest flagship smartphone at an event held in New Delhi today (29 May). The X21 is the first device to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor replacing the traditional fingerprint sensor. This was first revealed at the CES 2018 held in Las Vegas earlier this year.

Apart from the in-display fingerprint sensor, the Vivo X21 also supports the face unlock feature. The device sports a 3D glass body which gives it a premium look. The device has been priced at Rs 35,999 and is available in India exclusively on Flipkart in black colour option.

Vivo X21 Specifications

The Vivo X21 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with the company’s custom skin Funtouch OS 4.0 on top and features a 6.28-inch full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2280 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The device sports a notch at the top and has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

In terms of performance, the Vivo X21 is powered by an octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC coupled with Adreno 512 GPU. The company has launched only one variant of the device and it features 6GB RAM with 128GB of internal storage which can be further expanded via a microSD card.

The Vivo X21 features a dual camera setup at the back consisting of a 12MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture and a 5MP secondary camera with f/2.4 aperture. The dual camera setup is placed vertically, and the LED flash is placed below it. On the front, the device sports a 12MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. Both, the primary and secondary camera feature dual pixel support for fast focus and improved low-light images.

The Vivo X21 is powered by a 3,200mAh battery with fast charge support. Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz), Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm audio jack and GPS. It has a dedicated AK4376A Hi-Fi audio chip for an enhanced audio experience.

Pricing and Availability

The Vivo X21 has been priced at Rs 35,990 and is available exclusively on Flipkart. Vivo has announced that the device will come with the company’s XE710 headphone.

BlackBerry Ghost with bezel-less display to launch in India soon

After several leaks and rumors, the BlackBerry Ghost, a bezel-less flagship smartphone from the Canadian smartphone maker BlackBerry is all set to be launched in India in the next two months. The device had earlier surfaced in February and since the initial leaks, there has been no new information about the device.

Now, a new leak from Evan Blass has revealed that the BlackBerry Ghost will be launched in India this summer, which means that the device will be launched either in June or July. There has been no announcement regarding this from BlackBerry.

Optiemus Infracom, the licensee of BlackBerry in India is working on the phone and had earlier mentioned that they are planning to launch new phones under the BlackBerry branding in India in the next two quarters. Optiemus Infracom had earlier designed and manufactured the BlackBerry KEYone in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Not much is known about the BlackBerry Ghost yet. Evan Blass in his tweet has mentioned the Ghost will feature a dual camera setup at the back with Optical Zoom and low-light image enhancement.

The main highlight of the BlackBerry Ghost will be its completely bezel-less display, something which Vivo and Lenovo are also working on with their Apex and Z5 smartphones respectively. The Z5 is scheduled to launch on 5 June and the Vivo Apex is expected to launch on 12 June. BlackBerry is also scheduled to launch the KEY2 at an event in New York on 7 June.

Xiaomi Redmi 6, Redmi 6A spotted on TENAA, specs revealed

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is currently working on two budget devices, the successors of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5A. While Xiaomi has not revealed any details of the devices, three Xiaomi devices with the codenames M1804C3CC, M1804C3DE and M1804C3CE have been spotted on Chinese certification site TENAA.

The M1804C3DE model has been spotted featuring a dual camera setup and a fingerprint sensor and going by earlier Redmi devices, this could be the Redmi 6. The other device features a single camera at the back and lacks a fingerprint sensor, hinting that this could be the budget Redmi 6A device.

Xiaomi is hosting an event on May 31 to celebrate the company’s eighth anniversary and at this event, the company is expected to announce the Mi 8, MIUI 10, Mi Band 3 and other devices. Xiaomi may use this event to announce the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A budget devices.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Specifications

The Xiaomi Redmi 6 will run on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9 skinned on top and feature a 5.45-inch HD+ 2.5D curved glass display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9.

In terms of performance, the Xiaomi Redmi 6 is expected to run on an octa core SoC clocked at 2GHz, which could be the Snapdragon 625 coupled with 506 GPU. In terms of memory, the device is expected to be launched in three variants – 2GB RAM + 16GB internal storage, 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage. The storage will be further expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card.

Coming to the camera department, the Xiaomi Redmi 6 is expected to feature a vertically placed dual camera setup consisting of a 12MP primary camera with an LED flash and a secondary camera. On the front, the device sports a 5MP selfie camera.

The Xiaomi Redmi 6 will be powered by a 3,000mAh battery and connectivity options on the device will include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, FM Radio, 3.5mm audio and GPS.

Xiaomi Redmi 6A Specifications

The Xiaomi Redmi 6A will also run on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9 skinned on top and feature a 5.45-inch HD+ 2.5D curved glass display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9 similar to the Redmi 6A.

Coming to the camera department, the Xiaomi Redmi 6A will feature a 12MP primary camera with an LED flash at the back. On the front, the device will sport a 5MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture and an LED flash.

Mobiistar adds two new names to the list of affordable smartphones in India

Vietnam based smartphone maker Mobiistar has made its debut in India with the launch of Mobiistar XQ Dual and Mobiistar CQ budget smartphones in its Selfie Star series. Both the devices will be available exclusively from Flipkart starting May 30.

The Mobiistar XQ Dual has been priced at Rs. 7,999 and the low-end Mobiistar CQ has been priced at Rs. 4,999. The XQ Dual is a selfie focused smartphone and features a dual camera setup up front. The Mobiistar CQ is aimed at first time and low-end smartphone buyers. While the Mobiistar XQ Dual has a fingerprint sensor, the CQ does not sport the sensor, which is alright considering its price.

Mobiistar XQ Dual Specifications

The Mobiistar XQ Dual runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat and features a 5.5-inch full HD 2.5D curved glass display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, an aspect ratio of 16:9 and Asahi Dragontrail protection. While 18:9 displays are trending these days, Mobiistar has decided to use a 16:9 aspect ratio display for its device.

In terms of performance, the Mobiistar XQ Dual is powered by an octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC coupled with Adreno 505 GPU. In terms of memory, the device features 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card.

Honor 7A, Honor 7C debut in India featuring FullView display, dual rear cameras

Chinese smartphone maker Honor has launched two new budget devices in India, dubbed as the Honor 7A and Honor 7C at an event held in New Delhi. The Honor 7A and 7C are part of the Honor 7 series and the company had earlier launched the Honor 7X in India.

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has decided to go with two different e-commerce portals for its devices. The Honor 7A will be available exclusively from Flipkart starting from May 29 and the Honor 7C will be available from Amazon India starting from May 31.

Honor 7A Specifications

The Honor 7A runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with the company’s EMUI 8.0 skinned on top and features a 5.7-inch HD+ IPS LCD FullView display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The company has not revealed any information about display protection.

In terms of performance, the Honor 7A is powered by an octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC coupled with a Adreno 505 GPU. In terms of memory, the device features 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage that can be further expanded up to 256GB via an microSD card.

Samsung has finally announced the launch of new mid-range devices in the Galaxy J series and Galaxy A series, called the Galaxy J6, Galaxy J8, Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6 Plus. The launch of these devices had been rumored for some time now. Earlier reports had indicated that Samsung will launch the J4 instead of the J8.

The Galaxy J6 is the lowest priced device among the four devices launched today and is available starting at Rs. 13,990. While the Galaxy J6 and Galaxy A6 are powered by the Exynos 7870 SoC, the Galaxy J8 and Galaxy A6 Plus are powered by the Snapdragon 450 SoC.

Samsung Galaxy J6 Specifications

The Samsung Galaxy J6 runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung’s UI skinned on top and features a 5.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED 2.5D curved glass display with a resolution of 1480 x 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18.5:9.

In terms of performance, the Samsung Galaxy J6 is powered by an octa core Exynos 7870 SoC coupled with Mali T830 GPU. Coming to the camera department, the Samsung Galaxy J8 features a dual camera setup at the back consisting of a 16MP primary camera with f/1.7 aperture and a 5MP secondary camera with f/1.9 aperture. There is an LED flash at the right side of the camera and a fingerprint sensor has been placed below the camera. On the front, the device sports a 16MP selfie camera with an LED flash.

Apart from the display, the Galaxy A6 is also powered by the same octa core Exynos 7870 SoC coupled with Mali T830 GPU as the Galaxy J6. It has been launched in two variants - 4GB RAM + 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage.

Coming to the optics, the Galaxy A6 features a 16MP primary camera with f/1.7 aperture and an LED flash. On the front, the device sports a 16MP selfie camera with f/1.9 aperture and an LED flash.

The Samsung Galaxy J6 3GB RAM variant has been priced at Rs. 13,990 and the 4GB RAM variant has been priced at 16,490. Coming to the availability, the device will be available in Black, Blue and Gold color options starting from May 22. The Samsung Galaxy J8 has been priced at Rs. 18,990 and will be available from June 20.

Under this sale, customers will get cashbacks, no cost EMIs, bank offers and exchange discounts.

The Amazon Summer Sale will begin on 13 May and end on 16 May, the same four days that Flipkart has chosen for its Big Shopping Days sale. It is obvious that Amazon India has selected these days to compete with Flipkart’s Big Shopping Days sale and it will be interesting to see which company comes out with better offers.

In accessories, powerbanks will be available with a discount of up to 70%, phone cases will receive a discount of up to 75% and Bluetooth headsets will be discounted by up to 35%. PC accessories will be discounted by up to 50% and selected laptops will be available with a discount of up to Rs 20,000 during the sale.

Apart from mobile phones, laptops and accessories, other electronic items such as cameras, headphones, speakers, smartwatches, fitness bands, storage devices, televisions will also be discounted. Apart from hardware, software and video games will also receive a discount of up to 75%.

To promote its own products, Amazon will offer special discounts on eBooks, Amazon Echo speakers, Amazon Fire TV Stick and the Kindle Paperwhite on all days of the Summer Sale.

Apart from discounts, Amazon will also offer cashbacks, no cost EMIs and exchange discounts during the sale. The company has said that over 1,000 brands are participating in the sale and over 40,000 products will have special offers.

Like all Amazon sales, customers using Amazon Pay balance to pay will get an extra cashback of 10% up to Rs 300 on orders placed during the sale. Additionally, users who use their ICICI bank Debit or Credit card will get a cashback of up to 10%.

Honor 7S specifications, price leaked

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor recently launched the Honor 7A in China and the smartphone maker is now gearing up to launch another budget smartphone dubbed as the Honor 7S. A leak has revealed the specifications and the price of the device ahead of its official launch.

The Honor 7S has been certified by TENAA with the model number DUA-TL00, hinting that the launch of the device is imminent. The device lacks a fingerprint sensor but is has a face unlock feature. 

Honor 7S Specifications

The Honor 7S runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with the company’s EMUI 8.0 skinned on top and the device features a 5.45-inch HD+ FullView 2.5D curved glass display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9.

The Honor 7S is powered by a quad core MediaTek MT6739 SoC coupled with PowerVR Rogue GE8100 GPU. In terms of memory, the leaks have revealed that the device will be launched in one variant only, featuring 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card.

The device features a 13MP primary camera with an LED flash and sports a 5MP selfie camera with an LED flash for improved low-light images. 

The Honor 7S will be powered by a 3,020mAh battery and connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, FM Radio and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Honor 7S Expected Price

The Honor 7S is expected to be priced at 100 GBP and around Rs 9,000 in India. Leaks have revealed that the device will be available in Black, Blue and Champagne Gold colour options.

Flipkart has announced the Big Shopping Days sale with offers across a range of categories like smartphones, audio devices, laptops, smartwatches, fitness bands and more. The Flipkart Big Shopping Days sale is slated to be held from 13 May to 16 May and will include discounts, exchange offers and offers on EMIs too.

Giving a sneak peek into the offers during its Big Shopping Days sale, Flipkart revealed that the Google Pixel 2 can be purchased for as low as Rs 34,999. The device was available for Rs 61,000 when launched in India, the Pixel 2 is currently available for purchase at effectively Rs 44,999 – after a discount of Rs 8,001 and a cashback of Rs 8,000 for HDFC Bank credit/debit card users. 

Apart from the Pixel 2 offer, buyers can also look forward to deals on the Pixel 2 XL, Samsung Galaxy On Nxt and more.

Xiaomi Redmi S2 listed online ahead of China launch

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is scheduled to launch its latest budget device, the Redmi S2 at an event in China on May 10. Ahead of its official launch, the device has been listed online on Aliexpress, revealing the design and the specifications of the device.

The Xiaomi Redmi S2 is expected to also launch in India after it launches in China. The Aliexpress listing hints that the device will also be launched globally after its Asia launch. Xiaomi had recently posted teasers of the device on the company’s official Weibo account.

Xiaomi Redmi S2 Specifications

The Xiaomi Redmi S2 will run on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9 skinned on top. The device features a 5.99-inch HD+ 2.5D curved IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9.

In terms of performance, the Xiaomi Redmi S2 will be powered by an octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. In terms of memory, the device will come in three variants – 2GB RAM + 16GB internal storage, 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage.

The device will come with a dedicated microSD card, allowing you to expand the internal storage while using two SIM cards. The images have revealed that the device will come with a fingerprint sensor at the back and an infrared port at the top.

Coming to the camera department, the Redmi S2 will feature a dual camera setup at the back consisting of a 12MP primary camera with Sony IMX486 / OmniVision OV12A10 sensor and a secondary 5MP camera with Samsung S5K5E8 sensor. On the front, the device sports a 16MP front facing camera. Xiaomi has been teasing the device as a selfie centric device and it will come with AI portrait mode.

The Xiaomi Redmi S2 will be powered by a 3,080mAh battery. Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and a 3.5mm audio jack. The Aliexpress listing has revealed that the device will start at $165.99 but it is expected that the device will be launched in India under Rs. 10,000.

Honor 10 with Kirin 970, 6GB RAM to launch in India on May 15

The Chinese smartphone maker, Honor, is all set to launch its latest mid-range device, the Honor 10, in India on May 10. The device was launched last month in China with a starting price of CNY 2,599 and since the launch, reports of the Indian launch started surfacing.

E-commerce portal Flipkart has now confirmed that the device will launched as a Flipkart exclusive on May 15. Huawei’s sub-brand has scheduled an event in London on the same day for the global launch of the device. While both Flipkart and Honor have confirmed the launch, there is no information about the pricing of the device.

Honor 10 Specifications

The Honor 10 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI 8.1 skinned on top and features a 5.84-inch full HD+ LCD display. The display comes with a resolution of 2240 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The device comes with a notch at the top.

In terms of performance, the Honor 10 is powered by an octa core Huawei Kirin 970 SoC coupled with Mali-G72 MP12 GPU. In terms of memory, the device comes in two variants - 6GB RAM + 64GB internal storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB internal storage. At the moment, it is not clear if Honor is going to launch both the variants in India or not.

Coming to the camera department, the Honor 10 features a dual camera setup at the back consisting of a 16MP RGB sensor and a 24MP monochrome sensor. The dual camera setup comes with f/1.8 aperture, PDAF, depth focus and an LED flash. On the front, the device sports a 24MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture.

The Honor 10 is powered by a 3,400mAh battery and comes with fast charging support. Connectivity options on the device include dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC, 3.5mm audio jack and a USB Type-C port.
