Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL for Windows exposed early with mid-end hardware

You know you’ve made it as a device manufacturer lacking Apple or Samsung’s big marketing bucks when one of your unreleased, unannounced cost-conscious Windows handhelds has its specifications disclosed by mobile leak legend @evleaks on Twitter.Of course, Alcatel OneTouch is still not exactly what you’d call a household name in the smartphone business, despite promising recent launches of the Idol 3 “budget flagship”, rugged Go Play, ...

Alcatel Onetouch introduces Idol 3C, Pixi First handsets

Last night, IFA brought us a bunch of new product announcements from Alcatel Onetouch, hitting all the bases with new phones, tablets, and wearables. That was just the warm-up lap, though, and tonight the phone-maker is back with a fresh set of hardware, including a couple new phones: meet the colorful Idol 3C and affordable Pixi First. The Idol 3 was already one of our favorite phones this year, offering exceptional value for ...

Behold the 17-inch Alcatel Onetouch Xess Android ‘tablet’

It’s a tablet. It’s an Android all-in-one PC. It’s… something else entirely. A tablet “so different we can’t call it a tablet”, according to the device’s very manufacturer. That’s right, Alcatel Onetouch is playfully uncertain exactly how to market the colossal 17.3-inch Xess, which manages to get a precious head start on that crazy rumored 18.4-inch Samsung pad.Of course, this isn’t the first time we’re seeing Android loaded on a physical keyboard-lacking touchscreen device rivaling the ...

Alcatel decks Pop Star with optional leather and wood, mid-tier Pop Up also official

Alcatel Onetouch’s IFA 2015 product announcements aren’t quite done yet, and much like the Go Watch and Go Play phone, the Pop Star handheld aims to stand out with a quirky, special feature or two, and presumably, sensible pricing. The 5-inch Android isn’t as rugged as the Go Play, or sporty like the Go Watch, instead allowing consumers to “really express themselves” with the choice of more than a dozen different rear covers. You can ...

Alcatel Onetouch Go Play smartphone hands-on (Video)

Making your mid-range phone stand out from the pack is a tricky thing for a manufacturer; once you dial-back specs and shy away from gimmicky features, it can be difficult to differentiate your own handset from all the other similar options out there. With the new Alcatel Onetouch Go Play Android smartphone, the manufacturer may have found a winning solution, combining a nice variety of attractive color options with some rugged design features that mean that even an affordable phone like this should be ...

Alcatel Onetouch introduces colorful, rugged Go Play phone

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the new-product announcements at IFA had died down; compared to earlier in the week, today brought only a trickle of new devices, and hardly the same sort of high-profile products as just a day or two back. But we’re far from done just yet, as tonight Alcatel Onetouch is introducing a bunch of new items, and we lead our coverage off with the Go Play smartphone. The Go Play is designed to be an affordable handset that can survive some rough handling, and while it may not look like ...

Alcatel Onetouch Go Watch makes its cross-platform launch with a sporty look

The new Alcatel Onetouch Go Play phone just went official, and while it may not offer the same sort of design flexibility as Motorola provides through its Moto Maker, the eight color options sure give users plenty of variety. That same sort of colorful selection also turns up in the company’s other new Go-series gadget launching tonight, as Alcatel Onetouch introduces the cross-platform Go Play smartwatch.Supporting both Android and iOS devices, the Go Play watch may sound a bit more like a notifier than a more full-fledged smartwatch like an Android Wear device (the Go Play runs ...

Alcatel OneTouch fleshes out North American Idol 3 options with 4.7-incher

Alactel OneTouch introduced its affordable Idol 3 all the way back at MWC in early March, announcing both 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models that would shared the Idol 3 name. With some solid specs and a budget-friendly price, we found a lot to like about the Idol 3 – at least, the version we had a chance to try. And while we gave the 5.5-inch Idol 3 our full review treatment, we hadn’t been able to come by the ...

Move over Qi-charging – every smartwatch should have third-party battery bands

By USB or by wall outlet, our gadgets receive energy and store it in their batteries. Once they’re unplugged, they’re immediately powering through your day. That is, if they can last as long as you do. And in the case of wearable technology, where battery capacity only goes so far as the technology inside of it and the limited physical footprint, sometimes they don’t.With discharge cycles lasting anywhere between 18 hours and seven days, we’re not excited with having ...

CES 2015: Everything we got to see at this year’s show

Another year, another International Consumer Electronics Show behind us. Was 2015’s one that will go down as a banner year in the annals of history? We didn’t see any huge show-stopping announcements, nor surprise reveals of everyone’s-talking-about-it hardware, but the show we did see unfold over the course of last week was still a totally solid offering, packed with lots of great phones, tablets, wearables, and accessories that all came together to place us on some solid footing as we get ready for the rest of this quarter’s launches. As we start thinking about

Alcatel Onetouch brings direct, unlocked sales to the US

Over the past few days, we’ve talked about lots of new mobile hardware that premiered at CES 2015, from flagship smartphones to interesting little accessories. That spread’s included more than a few models from Alcatel Onetouch, such as the Pixi 3, a hardware platform that will be available configured in your choice of three different mobile operating systems, as well as a very affordable circular-screened ...

Alcatel OneTouch introduces POP family

Alcatel OneTouch is introducing a new POP line-up at the ongoing CES 2015, and it consists of a smartphone subfamily (with 5-, 4.5-, and 4-inch screen versions) and a tablet, called the POP 10. The latter has a 10-inch screen and an unnamed resolution (at least not in the press release that we’ve received), packs a quad-core CPU (sorry, no make, model, or speed listed), 8GB of storage, and a pair of 5 and 2 megapixel cameras, while being “one of the thinnest and lightest 10-inch tablets on the market” (7.9mm thick and 400 grams). The phone family, as mentioned above, ...

Alcatel Onetouch Watch hands-on: cheaper, smaller, just as round (Video)

If 2014 was the year that smartwatches started getting more legitimate, 2015 is already looking like the year that wearables mature even further. One of the first wearables announced in 2014 was by Alcatel Onetouch, a manufacturer that’s managed to fit a round screen (something that would have had our jaws drop had we seen it a year ago) into a chassis that stays ultra-affordable – at least, compared to other devices like the Moto 360. The company let us try out the product at CES 2015, so here’s our Alcatel Onetouch Watch hands-on and initial impressions video. The Watch is ...

Alcatel launches triple-platform smartphone, round-screened affordable smartwatch

It’s been a long time coming, but smartphones that share the same hardware across disparate operating systems are finally starting to go mainstream. Sure, models like the HTC HD2 have managed to run nearly every OS under the sun thanks to a dedicated dev community, but we’re talking commercial support here: like how HTC introduced that Windows Phone version of its One M8. Now Alcatel Onetouch is the latest ...
