If “Prime” smartphones are truly better, they should come out first

Remember how excited you were? Think back. Think way back to February in the year two thousand fourteen – seems like ages ago doesn’t it – and how exciting it was for Samsung to be launching its newest flagship device, just under a year after the GS4 hit the stage. Are you harkening? Do you feel the thrill? The excitement? You don’t?Well good, you shouldn’t. Because it all meant absolutely zero, zip, zilch. That’s right, it’s ‘Prime’ time people. No, not the time when your favorite show – Dancing with the American Ninja ...

Exynos chips, the Galaxy Note 4, and what to expect from the Galaxy F

We’re on a bit of a Samsung roll this morning, and before we turn our attentions elsewhere, there’s one more report we’ve run across that seems worth bringing your way. Lately we’ve spent a lot of time talking about the Galaxy S5 Prime/Galaxy F/SM-G906/KQ/Lentis – all those different names alone (assuming they really all even represent the same device) are enough to make your head spin. With the timetable we’re likely looking at, this phone could arrive right around the same time as the next-gen Note model. Today we take a closer look at both devices, as ...

Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime (Galaxy F) swings by FCC

Whether Samsung ends up calling its quad HD handset the Galaxy F or the Galaxy S5 Prime is still up in the air (and you may have noticed us going back and forth on the naming, with no clear front-runner having yet emerged) but what no one seems to be doubting anymore is that it’s coming, one way or another. We’ve had a couple opportunities recently to share with you possible images of the hardware, but this afternoon we put the pics to the side and start digging through some paperwork, checking out the FCC ...

Galaxy S5 Prime launch window, pricing subjects of latest rumor

Let’s assume for a moment that we’re not wildly missing the mark here, and that Samsung really is preparing to launch the phone we’ve been talking about as the Galaxy S5 Prime. When might it hope to do so? LG’s introduction of the G3 with a quad HD display of its own is bound to heat-up Android flagship competition later this month, but will Samsung be quick to follow with its response, or might we be waiting until a little later in the year – maybe ...

New Galaxy S5 Prime concept renders sure are pretty (are they at all realistic, though?)

Samsung sure does seem to be working on an upgraded version of its Galaxy S5, a phone we’ve been talking about as the GS5 Prime. Beyond the move to a 2K quad HD display, there’s also been talk of a new metal body and upgrades to various internal chips. We’ve even got a model number for the handset, which should arrive as Samsung’s SM-G906. But for all we’ve heard, we really haven’t gotten any look at the phone itself. Those early case ...

Samsung Galaxy S5-family leak points to new Mega model

Samsung Galaxy S flagships aren’t just smartphones: they’re progenitors. From those single devices we see spring a whole family of related models, and this year should be no different for the Galaxy S5. We’ve been talking about it being joined by devices like a GS5 Mini or GS5 Neo, not to mention a quad HD GS5 Prime. Today we check out a new leak that attempts to firm-up details on a few of these models, while also setting us straight about another. We’ve ...

Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime image allegedly leaked, as head of mobile design is being replaced

Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime rumors are nothing new; we’ve recently heard, among others, about plans — or not — for a QHD (2K) screen to grace the new version of the flagship, on steroids. The most recent leak allegedly tries to uncover the looks of the upcoming device. The image below purportedly represents the upcoming phone. While we need to remain skeptical about this for now, we’re still seeing the same ...

Quad HD Galaxy S5 rumors tackle hardware details, development history

Yesterday we brought you the latest development in those rumors that just won’t die, claiming that Samsung is still cooking-up a smartphone very much like the Galaxy S5 we have now, but with a quad HD 2K display. After Samsung issued a denial that any such hardware was forthcoming, much of our conversation has focused on whether or not this device truly exists, and that’s very much what yesterday’s news covered. Today we get a treat, and instead of just talking about the model’s mere existence, we get ...

2K display Galaxy S5 rumors pick up new evidence

Samsung has seriously thrown us all for a loop when it comes to rumors about a premium version of the Galaxy S5 that might offer a screen with a quad HD resolution. The official word from the manufacturer may be “this isn’t happening,” but nearly as soon as it denied the allegations we started picking up the fresh scent of evidence. Earlier this month we saw a Samsung model SM-G906 (versus SM-G900 for the GS5 itself) show up in a benchmark database

Premium, quad HD GS5 to arrive as Galaxy S 5 Prime?

The idea of Samsung releasing two distinct versions of the Galaxy S 5 has been a component of GS5 rumors for months, and rumors have sort of settled on this notion of handsets with 1080p and 1440p screens – the regular and premium GS5, respectively. But even assuming that this is based in fact, how might Samsung actually go about selling the phones. In years past, we’ve had differences like Exynos or Snapdragon-based Galaxy S models, but they were all sold ...
