Instagram REALLY wants you to watch Reels and Shop on its app

Instagram has introduced a slew of changes to its app in the past few months. Now, its navigation bar is getting a design overhaul with the introduction of the Reels tab and a Shop tab. While the former lets you discover the short videos from creators, the Shop tab will allow you to connect with brands and creators and discover their products.

Instagram says, “we’re rolling out the Reels tab to be a kind of a stage, a place where people can share their creativity with the world and have a chance to break out and find an audience.” On the other hand, the Shop tab brings shopping to your fingertips on the photo-sharing platform. You can find personalized recommendations, editors’ picks curated by Instagram’s @shop channel, shoppable videos, new product collections, and more.

While two new buttons come to the navigation bar, Instagram is moving the notification button and ‘add new media’ button at the top of the screen. They’ll now be located adjacent to the Instagram DMs button. Meanwhile, the Explore button is back to the navigation bar and lies second to the Home button. Personally, I’m not a big fan of these changes. I never liked the introduction of the Reels button, which replaced the Explore button. And, Instagram never officially rolled out this update. It looks like that was the testing phase, and it is now settling on a new design.

Instagram recently rolled out a new feature called “suggested posts” that appear when you’ve finished reading recent posts from those you follow. These posts are related to what you normally see. Luckily, these don’t include IGTV or Reels posts, while the company is making a push to its TikTok rival.

Instagram’s revamped Shop experience in Explore goes live in the US

Instagram announced a redesigned Shop section within the Explore section back in May. Fast forward to July, and the Facebook-owned company has officially started the rollout of Instagram Shop under the Explore tab, turning it from a barebones shopping experience into a well-curated, full-fledged shopping section.

The company says Instagram Shop makes it easier for buyers to purchase goods from brands and creators by offering them the latest trends, personalized recommendations, and the ability to check out exclusive launches in a single place. The new Instagram Shop experience is being rolled out for users in the US, and will arrive for users in more regions in the weeks to come.

There will also be a checkout arrow that signifies products that you can purchase directly on Instagram without having to exit the app. Additionally, the company also plans to bring a new Shop tab in the navigation bar that will lead you directly to the Instagram Shop section. And in order to make payments and donations seamless, the company is also introducing Facebook Pay that also supports biometric authentication as a layer of security.

Facebook launches Shops, an online marketplace for small businesses

Facebook has today launched Shops, a marketplace that aims to bring small businesses online and help them sell products during these trying times when physical stores have been shut down. Facebook Shops are relatively easy to create, and sellers of all sizes and budgets can customize it using templates for fonts, adding a cover photo, and more.

Users can find Facebook Shops on a business’ Facebook Page, Instagram profile, stories, or ads. Aside from saving products and browsing through the entire catalog, users can also place the order in the app itself or the website if the seller has enabled checkout. Buyers can also contact the seller via WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram Direct for queries, support, and tracking deliveries.

Facebook says in the future, it will also allow users to buy a product right within an in-house chat app such as WhatsApp, Messenger, or Instagram Direct. Facebook Shops is now live and will be widely available in the months to come.

In addition to Facebook Shops, the company is also launching Instagram Shop in the summer season, letting users buy products from within Instagram Explore. A dedicated shop tab will also be added to the navigation bar later this year so that buyers can access Instagram Shop with a single click.

A new live shopping feature is also coming to Facebook and Instagram, making it possible for businesses to advertise and sell their products right from a livestream. Once a seller or creator tags a product from his shop before going live, they will be displayed at the bottom of the live video for buyers to check them out and buy.
