Apple strikes China Mobile deal, reports claim

According to the latest reports, Apple strikes China Mobile deal, which allows the Cupertino-based company to have its phones on the line-up of the world’s largest mobile operator by users, at more than 700 million subscribers. The information was published by The Wall Street Journal and originates from “sources” familiar with the matter which remained anonymous. China Mobile is expected to have a conference in Guangzhou on December 18; that date seems to be the date hinted for Apple’s products to be available on the carrier’s line-up. However, the carrier ...

Which should you buy: a small or full-sized tablet?

Most of us in this industry get asked a lot of questions from people in the market to buy new mobile products. “Which smartphone is the best current deal?” “Should I get this phone or that one?” “Which is the best tablet to buy?” But of all the questions I’ve been asked in my four years of service to the mobile tech media, there is one question that is inherently more difficult to answer than others: “Should I buy a small or full-sized tablet?” The question is difficult to answer to begin with because … who actually needs a tablet? ...

iPhone 5s performs better than iPhone 5 on the market, says report

It has become somewhat of a habit that every new iPhone sells better than its predecessor — except the iPhone 5s, which really doesn’t have a predecessor, or it is its own predecessor, if you will — and that is exactly the case of the iPhone 5s. Apple told us this information, but we’re always curious to see what third parties think, because, you know, company issues figures are, well, company issued. Fiksu is tracking the iPhone user base, among others, through its iOS SDK, and has concluded, as seen in the graphic above, that the iPhone 5s is already representing ...

Apple starts selling unlocked iPhone 5s devices in the US

If you’re a frequent traveler or simply don’t want to be tied to a carrier and be locked into a contract, an unlocked phone is the perfect solution. Apple has recently started selling the unlocked iPhone 5s in the US (while other regions already had it) and, according to the current status, it will ship within one-two weeks. The price is the same as in the case of the T-Mobile iPhone 5s (which is also unlocked, but contains a T-Mobile SIM card), and it will set you back $649-$849, depending on which ...

iPad mini with Retina display vs iPad Air (Video)

Last month, Apple announced two new tablets, the iPad Air and the iPad mini with Retina display. The iPad Air bears a new design, creating unity between the design of the full-sized iPad and iPad mini. It’s now lighter, thinner, and more powerful. While the iPad mini didn’t receive a major design overhaul, its guts and display are greatly improved over last year’s iPad mini. Internally, the iPad ...

iPad mini with Retina display review: a smaller, lighter iPad Air

Last year, apple released a product many of us were convinced would never happen, a miniature tablet. The late Steve Jobs himself talked poorly of smaller tablets, from a usability standpoint, on an earnings call just two years ago. Nonetheless, the company pushed forward to provide the iPad mini in 2012. While many of us may not have agreed with what Jobs said at the time – that 7-inch tablets would have to be sold ...

Apple’s iOS train keeps rolling as developers get 7.1 beta

Last week saw Apple deliver the very latest iOS 7 update, iOS 7.0.4. Lacking any major improvements, it was a largely forgettable release, focusing mainly on a few bugfixes. What about something a little more impactful? Enough with this 7.0.x series – today we see Apple pushing its platform ever forwards with the distribution if iOS 7.1 beta to its developer community. And truth be told: we may be moving on up in build number, but it’s still a lot of bug fixes. It’s more than just that, though, and you’ll ...

iPad mini with Retina Display vs old iPad mini (Video)

Apple’s latest addition to its tablet lineup as released earlier this week, the highly anticipated iPad mini with Retina Display. Last year’s miniature tablet from Apple was a success, yet it was perceived by many to be a compromise – both in performance and display quality. Apple reacted by upgrading the internals and, more importantly, the display. All the while, it managed to maintain approximately the same size, and utilized the same, much loved design. Of course, an upgrade this large ...

Android tablet revenue might have surpassed Apple’s, claims analyst

“For the first time Android devices accounted for a greater share of the market in revenue terms than iOS”, wrote Katy Huberty from Morgan Stanley, after analyzing numbers published by IDC two weeks ago. “Android revenue share reached 46.2% in 3Q13, for the first time exceeding iPad share of 45.6%. Android’s unit share grew to 66.7% from 58.5% a year ago, largely driven by Samsung and Lenovo, while iPad share declined to 29.7% from 40.2%.” This all means that, according to Huberty, if up until now, Apple marketshare was somewhat less than Android’s in ...

iPad mini with Retina Display vs Nexus 7 2013 (Video)

Two of the biggest mobile rivals have now released compelling and intriguing miniature tablet hardware for 2013. Google first launched the new Nexus 7 back in July. Price may have been its big selling feature, but that wasn’t the only wallop it packed. It sports great specifications, a gorgeous display, and a quaint yet beautiful design. The iPad mini with Retina Display, which

Apple delivering iOS 7.0.4 to users now

The routine is one we know well by now: Apple releases a major new iOS update alongside the launch of a new device, Apple users start upgrading en masse, and in the weeks that follow we start learning about new bugs and watch Apple fix them. That meant the arrival of iOS 7.0.1 and 7.0.2 back in September, followed by iOS 7.0.3 late last month. Apple’s not quite done yet, and today we see it make with iOS 7.0.4, delivering its own assortment of bugfixes. All told, it sounds like a pretty minor update – in fact, while we’re sure ...

iPad mini with Retina Display now available in the Apple Store

When Apple introduced the iPad mini with Retina Display, together with the last-gen full-size iPad, called iPad Air, the company didn’t make an announcement regarding the availability of the improved mini slate. There’s been a lot of speculation on the delay, and there were even reports claiming that display burn-in issues are preventing the smaller iPad from being available. You can now order the iPad mini with Retina Display from the Apple Store. You can choose from Space Gray and ...

Boost Mobile iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C available

If you fancy Boost Mobile, the Sprint-powered pre-paid carrier, and you’ve got your eyes set on one of the new Apple iPhone models, you’ll be glad to know that both the iPhone 5S — currently, already reported as being out of stock — and the iPhone 5C are available. The higher-end model will set you back $549.99, which is $100 less than what Apple is asking for. In addition, you can get another $100 off if you are a new customer until November 24, making this a $449.99 offer. No wonder it is out of stock! The iPhone 5C is there though, the last year’s iPhone ...

Apple iPad Air review: the same as before, only better

It was three and a half years ago when Apple kick-started the modern tablet market we all know and (well, at least some of us) love today. The original iPad upended the space, proving that 10-inch devices did in fact have a place in this world. And to this day, Apple has held and proven its dominance over all those who have taken a stab at the tablet sector, though it’s market share has been steadily slipping over the last year, give or take. The competition has been heating up, and Apple was in need of a refresh to its ...

Pocketnow Weekly 069: Engadget’s Brad Molen joins us to talk Nexus 5 & new iPads

You know the old saying: sometimes you’re the windshield, sometimes you’re the bug. Sometimes you’re the Louisville Slugger, sometimes you’re the ball. Sometimes you’re a radio champ, sometimes you make a 90-minute podcast based entirely on leaks and rumors, only to have the subject of those rumors officially unveiled just hours later. Life’s rough. Well, this week ...
