The Lenovo Miix 520 is another looming Surface Pro 4 contender with Kaby Lake inside

The biggest threats for the 2-in-1 Surface Pro tablet family may come from inside the growing Windows 10 convertible ecosystem if Microsoft keeps holding back the inevitable Intel Kaby Lake fifth-generation upgrade.

Lenovo is apparently working on not one, but two different Miix designs to possibly follow in the 510’s footsteps as early as CES 2017 in January, including the just-leaked Miix 520 configuration.

This doesn’t sound like a major step forward, and overall, it strongly resembles its predecessor on the outside. Under the hood, though, you’ll reportedly get to choose between Intel Core i3-7006U, i3-7100U, i5-7200U and i5-7500U processors of the seventh-gen Kaby Lake derivation, ranging in clock speeds from 2.0 to 2.7GHz.

Then there will be up to a whopping 16GB RAM to handle even the most demanding multitasking requirements, as much as 1TB of solid state storage, 41 Wh battery capacity, passive cooling abilities, and believe it or not, a pair of 8 + 2MP cameras slapped to the 12-incher’s back.

What for? Augmented reality, we presume, but that’s all we can tell you at the moment. Otherwise, the Lenovo Miix 520 is indeed not very different from the 510, with the same adjustable watchband hinges in tow, optional keyboard cover, active stylus, Full HD screen resolution, and super-premium magnesium-aluminum alloy construction. No words on pricing yet, but fingers crossed the entry-level SKU shall cost no more than $700.
