Will Nokia ever make a higher-end ‘X’ Android phone?

For years, Android enthusiasts begged Nokia to appease the masses with what they thought would be the perfect combination of the best software and hardware – its hardware running Google’s mobile operating system, Android. Not everyone – including our own Michael Fisher – bought into the theoretical Nokia-made dream phone. But there is no denying it was an extremely popular concept.Back in 2010, ...

Nokia XL goes up for sale in multiple markets

While the Nokia X is easily the Android most associated with Nokia’s recent experimentation with the platform, its sibling devices, the Nokia X+ and XL, are the more heavyweight options. The X+ boosts available RAM and throws in a microSD card, while XL does all that while also upgrading to a five-inch screen, increasing main camera resolution to 5MP, and adding a front-facer, which the other two lack altogether. The Nokia X has already hit the scene, but now Nokia is easing its way into availability for the rest, ...

The Nokia X isn’t a “real” Android phone – here’s why

Jaime and Tony are in Barcelona at this year’s MWC and, as you might expect, they’re seeing some very interesting things. Three of the most interesting devices that I’ve seen come from Nokia — and they’re all running Android. Sort of. As their names imply, the Nokia X, X+, XL are all Nokia phones. They’re made by Nokia. Nokia XL vs Nokia Lumia 1020: hands-on comparison (Video)

“Wow. That Nokia XL is big.” That’s the first thought that hit my lobes when this hands-on comparison started playing on my monitor, but it certainly wasn’t the last. Because while the 4.5-to-5-inch jump in screen size is one of the more instantly recognizable differences between Nokia’s Windows Phone flagship and its new Android-powered phone for “the next billion,” it’s the least ...

The Nokia Android phone(s): Nokia X, X+, XL launch at MWC

As part of its bid to “connect the next billion with affordable smartphones,” Nokia today announced the long-rumored Nokia X: the device formerly known as the Normandy and Nokia’s first-ever Android-powered smartphone. In terms of specs, the headlining Nokia Android phone is everything we expected: a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, 3MP camera, and 4″ IPS WVGA display place the device firmly in the “developing markets” segment, while its particular flavor of Android is predictably Microsoft-leaning in its loyalties: the tile-centric interface bears more than a ...
