OnePlus 9 Pro confirmed to support an insane 50W wireless charging

Call it spoiling the surprise oneself, or taking the spotlight away from leaks, OnePlus keeps revealing new details about its upcoming smartphones. After dropping some juicy details about the camera hardware and even revealing the OnePlus 9 Pro in all its glory, the company has now confirmed another impressive feature – support for an insane 50W wireless charging. Or in the company’s own lingo – Warp Charge 50 Wireless.

OnePlus claims that its proprietary wireless charging technology will fully juice up the battery in 43 minutes. In case you’re wondering about battery capacity, the OnePlus 9 Pro will reportedly come equipped with a 4,500mAh battery. OnePlus is again going with a dual-cell design, which each half receiving 25W of power while charging wirelessly. Moreover, the company claims to have improved the heating situation so that things don’t get all toasty while wireless charging.

And just in case you’re wondering about wired charging speed, OnePlus 9 and its Pro variant will both support 65W charging, thanks to the Warp Charge 65T technology. While that’s not essentially an upgrade over the OnePlus 8T, OnePlus says that charging speed is actually faster on its upcoming phones, with the company claiming that both phones will get their tanks full in just 29 minutes.

A new wireless charger with a removable cable

Additionally, OnePlus is also going to launch a new wireless charger to deliver 50W of power. And with it, the company is planning to solve two major issues – the orientation in which the phone can be used, and a removable cable. The new charger has two coils, one at the top and the other one at the bottom.

What this means is you can put the OnePlus 9 Pro on the charger either vertically, or even horizontally if you’re watching video on it while charging. Additionally, the cable is no longer permanently fixed at the back. You can just plug in the supplied signature red USB-C cable or any third-party cable that supports USB-PD charging to get the full 50W wattage.

1Hz-120Hz! Yep, that’s what OnePlus 9 Pro’s display will offer

OnePlus 9 series is all set to launch on March 23. Ahead of the launch, we have seen everything from leaked specifications to renders. Heck, even the company has showed the OnePlus 9 Pro in official renders. So why wait for the launch – because OnePlus might still have some features up its sleeve left to announce. One of them has been revealed today.

According to a report from PCMag, the OnePlus 9 Pro will support an adaptive refresh rate that will allow the screen to go as low as 1Hz. We have seen adaptive refresh rates from Samsung and Xiaomi, but none of their devices go to 1Hz. OnePlus is calling its new form of OLED display “Fluid Display 2.0.” As per the report, it is a combination of Samsung’s OLED panel and a bunch of exclusive OnePlus software optimizations and tunings.

The OnePlus 9 Pro will feature a curved 6.7-inch display with a 3,216-by-1,440-pixel resolution at 526 PPI. It will have support for a 120Hz high refresh rate that can go down to as low as 1Hz. It might sound ridiculous at first, but it is not. The low refresh rate will allow OnePlus 9 Pro to consume less power when the screen is sitting idle – for instance, when you are reading. The slower the refresh rate, the less power the display consumes.

While you scroll, the OnePlus 9 Pro display will move at 120Hz But once the screen sits idle, it will drop to 1Hz. Watch a video at 30fps, and it runs at 30Hz. All of this will allow the smartphone to optimize its battery accordingly.

OnePlus is calling the feature “Smart 120Hz.” Moreover, it says that the low refresh rate will cut the overall display power consumption by 50%. If the numbers are to be believed, we can expect a good battery life on the upcoming Pro model. The report goes on to say that the device will have a 360Hz touch sampling rate, which will be the fastest available on any US phone.

Notably, the report mentions support for “Smart 120Hz” only for the OnePlus 9 Pro, which means that the vanilla OnePlus 9 will miss out on the feature.

OnePlus 9 Pro might support 50W wireless charging. Hello, Apple and Samsung!

OnePlus 9 series is just around the corner. The leaks are coming in steadily (duh!), and OnePlus also appears to be in overdrive mode, dropping some key product details and even giving us a glimpse of the OnePlus 9 Pro in all its glory. Now, a fresh leak suggests that the OnePlus 9 Pro will offer support for 50W wireless charging. Yes, you read that right. 50W wireless charging.

50W wireless charging, and likely 65W wired charging too!

The latest leak comes courtesy of tipster Ishan Agarwal in collaboration with PriceBaba. If true, this would be a serious upgrade from its predecessor – the OnePlus 8 Pro – which brought 30W wireless charging to the table. And in case you’re curious, leaks predict that the OnePlus 9 Pro will come equipped with a 4,500mAh battery. And if the OnePlus 8T is anything to go by, you will get support for at least 65W wired charging on the upcoming OnePlus flagship

In an age where the $1,000 Samsung and Apple phones struggle to reach even half that wattage with a wire, the OnePlus 9 Pro is raising the bar a little too high for its rivals with support for 50W wireless charging.

Now, the OnePlus 9 Pro won’t be the fastest phone in that charging department – either wired or wireless. When it comes to the wired standard, the gaming-centric Red Magic 6 leaves the competition far behind by offering support for 120W fast charging. Despite the huge difference, 65W fast charging is still plenty quick in my personal opinion. I’ve been able to charge the OnePlus 8T’s 4,500mAh battery to around 60% mark in just about 15-16 minutes.

Not the fastest out there, but still more than enough

Now, let’s talk about things in the wireless charging ecosystem. The Xiaomi Mi 11, for example, also offers support for 50W wireless charging. However, Xiaomi is already working on a mind-bending 80W wireless charging technology and has already shown it on video as well. Fellow Chinese company OPPO, on the other hand, has also revealed its 65W AirVOOC 2.0 fast charging tech

Why wait for launch? Here’s your official look at OnePlus 9 Pro

What’s the best way to curb leaks? Show it all officially before the launch event. At least that’s what OnePlus thinks is the right strategy. Merely days after the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro appeared in high-resolution renders, the company has apparently decided that it has had enough with the leaks. And that’s likely why the company has shared the official marketing images of the OnePlus 9 Pro in its Morning Mist color.

Yes, we get a clear look at the upcoming OnePlus flagship from both sides. And I’m not going to mince words here – it looks pretty sweet. The back appears to have a glossy finish with an understated gradient texture that goes from a light shade of grey to an almost silvery finish towards the top. The USB Type-C port and speaker grill at the bottom, while the familiar alert slider is on the left side. The screen – like it or not – is curved, with a hole punch in the top left corner.

OnePlus 9 Pro Morning Mist 4

Now, not much is secret about the OnePlus 9 Pro. The company itself has revealed the presence of a 50MP ultra-wide angle camera for the device backed by the new Sony IMX766 sensor. Yeah, it’s the same sensor that we also saw on the OPPO Find X3 Pro. WINK, WINK! It will be accompanied by the 48MP Sony IMX789 custom sensor that will be capable of 4K video capture at an impressive 120FPS frame rate.

OnePlus 9 Pro Morning Mist 2

OnePlus has partnered with Hasselblad to achieve what it calls Natural Color Calibration. The hype – and skepticism – around the partnership is high, and it remains to be seen whether OnePlus can improve on the one area that has long been the chink in the armor for its flagship killers.

OnePlus 9 Pro Morning Mist 1

As for the rest of the internals, the Snapdragon 888 SoC will drive the device, reportedly paired with around 12 gigs of RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage. Leaks have predicted a 4,500mAh battery inside the phone, and if the OnePlus 8T is anything to go by, we are getting support for 65W wired fast charing as well.

More OnePlus 9 series renders appear online giving us a look at the colorways

OnePlus 9 series is all set to be unveiled on March 23. Ahead of the launch, we know almost everything about the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. Last week, Winfuture.de shared the leaked renders of the smartphones, which also gave us a look at the upcoming colorways. Now, tipster Ishan Agarwal has shared more OnePlus 9 series renders that also reiterate the color variants of the previous leak.

Agarwal took to Twitter to post the OnePlus 9 series renders. The OnePlus 9 can be seen in three colors – Stellar Black, Arctic Sky, and Winter Mist. On the other hand, the OnePlus 9 Pro renders reveal the phone in Astral Black, Morning Mist, and Pine Green color options. While the vanilla variant appears to feature a flat display, OnePlus seems to be sticking with a curved panel on the Pro model. However, the company could switch to a plastic frame for the OnePlus 9.

The OnePlus 9 is rumored to come equipped with a 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED display that is said to offer a 120Hz refresh rate. In contrast, the OnePlus 9 Pro might feature a 6.67-inch AMOLED QHD+ display with the same high refresh rate. Both devices could be made available with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. They are very likely to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC.

The OnePlus 9 might sport two 48MP sensors. One of them is said to output 12MP images, whereas the other could be an ultra-wide-angle lens. There could be another camera in the form of a telephoto lens. As for the OnePlus 9 Pro, it could sport a quad rear camera setup led by a 48MP Sony IMX789 camera and accompanied by a 50MP Sony IMX766 ultra-wide-angle lens + an 8MP telephoto camera and a 2MP depth sensor. Both the smartphones will have cameras tuned by Hasselblad. The upcoming OnePlus 9 series will include a Hasselblad Pro Mode that will bring Hasselblad’s sensor calibration to a smartphone for the first time.

Both devices are rumored to pack a 4,500mAh battery with 65W fast charging on the Pro, and 30W on the OnePlus 9.

OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro color options shown off in leaked official renders

Well, it looks like the floodgates of OnePlus 9 series leaks have finally opened ahead of its official debut on March 23. After details of the upcoming phones’ internal hardware surfaced online and a few camera details were officially confirmed as well, we now have high-resolution renders of the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, showing off the color options that will be up for grabs.

The latest leak, which comes from WinFuture, shows the OnePlus 9 Pro in three colors – black, silver, and green. Interestingly, the black trim appears to have a sandstone-like finish on the rear panel, although it could also turn out to be frosted glass at the end of the day, since possibilities of a metallic rear panel are slim as it would impede wireless charging. The remaining colors have a glossy surface finish.

Looks like the classic sandstone finish is returning, or at some semblance of it

There are four cameras at the back, sitting alongside the LED flash and what appears to be the laser autofocus module. OnePlus has already confirmed that the main 48MP camera uses the Sony IMX789 sensor, while the 50MP ultra-wide-angle shooter relies on the Sony IMX766 sensor.

Coming to the standard OnePlus 9, it appears in blue, purple and black colors, all three of which appear to rock a glossy finish. There are three cameras at back, and no laser autofocus module is to be found on this one. OnePlus 9 Pro is shown flaunting a curved display with a hole-punch drilled in the top right corner and slim bezels on all sides. It will reportedly employ an LTPO panel that will bring the adaptive refresh rate feature to the table, allowing the phone to automatically adjust the display refresh rate based on the on-screen content to save some battery juice.

The vanilla OnePlus 9 is going for a flat panel, but with the same approach for housing the selfie camera as its Pro sibling. As per leaks, both the phones will rely on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, and an identical 4,500mAh battery as well. Additionally, the two phones are rumored to support 65W fast charging, and wireless charging is also certain – at least for the Pro model.

OnePlus 9 series rumors: from speculations to confirmed specs, here’s all we know so far

OnePlus 9 series is just around the corner. The company will be launching it earlier than usual. OnePlus has so far launched its first flagship of the year in April or later. This time around, the company is bringing its OnePlus 9 series on March 23 at an online event. OnePlus is also tipped to launch its first smartwatch alongside smartphones. Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming devices ahead of the launch.

Not two, but three OnePlus 9 models

OnePlus usually unveils two models in its non-T series in the first half of the year. However, it is tipped to launch three models in the OnePlus 9 series. The company could launch the OnePlus 9R / 9E, OnePlus 9, and the OnePlus 9 Pro. While the latter two will sport a flagship chipset, the ‘R’ variant could be a more affordable bet.

OnePlus 9R / OnePlus 9E

The OnePlus 9R / 9E is tipped to be powered by a Snapdragon 600-series SoC. It could have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 chipset delivering its power needs. The smartphone could be made available with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Other specifications of the device remain unknown.

OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro

Both the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are likely to be powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC, which is the flagship chipset from Qualcomm. The former could come equipped with a 6.55-inch Full HD+ display, while the OnePlus 9 Pro could feature a 6.78-inch size with a QHD resolution. The duo is tipped to include a 120Hz refresh rate.

The OnePlus 9 might sport two 48MP sensors. One of them is said to output 12MP images, whereas the other could be an ultra-wide-angle lens. The third camera is unknown. As for the OnePlus 9 Pro, it could have four rear snappers. The phones are likely to come with up to 12GB RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Both devices are rumored to pack a 4,500mAh battery with 65W fast charging on the Pro, and 30W on the OnePlus 9.

Enters Hasselblad

OnePlus has entered a three-year partnership with Hasselblad. It has announced that the two companies will work together to deliver “vastly improved camera systems” on future OnePlus smartphones – starting with the OnePlus 9 series. OnePlus says it plans software improvements including color tuning and sensor calibration.

Hasselblad will help OnePlus in advanced color calibration. The new color solution, Natural Color Calibration with Hasselblad will be more accurate and natural-looking colors to photos taken with OnePlus flagship cameras.

The upcoming OnePlus 9 series will include a Hasselblad Pro Mode that will bring Hasselblad’s sensor calibration to a smartphone for the first time. It is said to result in accurate and natural colors for better post-editing. The new mode will allow you to adjust ISO, focus, exposure times, white balance, and more. Users will also be able to use a 12-bit RAW format for even richer colors and higher dynamic range.

The OnePlus-Hasselblad partnership of USD 150 million will span over three years and it will help OnePlus develop new areas of smartphone imaging technology. These include a panoramic camera with a 140-degree field of view, T-lens technology for lightning-fast focus in the front-facing camera. The OnePlus 9 series will include a feature called ‘freeform lens’, which will practically eliminate edge distortion in ultra-wide photos.

The best camera on a OnePlus ever?

OnePlus has announced that its next flagship series will sport a custom Sony IMX789 sensor. This sensor will support 12-bit RAW, and it is said to be up to 64-times more colorful than before. It is said to deliver more dynamic and vibrant colors in pictures. OnePlus says it will allow professional photographers more room for additional post-editing. Further, the Hasselblad Camera for Mobile will also offer improved HDR video recording, as well as support for capturing 4K 120FPS and 8K 30FPS video.

Wide range of colors

As per a report, the OnePlus 9 series will be made available in a wide range of colors. The regular OnePlus 9 could be offered in three color options of Astral Black, Arctic Sky, Winter Mist, while the T-Mobile variant might come in two colors – Astral Black, Winter Mist. On the other hand, the Verizon variant could be made available in Gloss Black, Gloss Gradient Purple color options.

In contrast, the OnePlus 9 Pro’s regular variant might sell in three color options of Stellar Black, Forest Green, Morning Mist, while the T-Mobile variant could get the Morning Mist color option.

Pre-order details of the OnePlus 9 series have already leaked online, thanks to Evan Blass. The OnePlus 9 series pre-orders are tipped to start on March 23, which is also the launch date. The early buyers will get one of two flavors of the OnePlus Buds Z true wireless earbuds.

Those who pre-order the OnePlus 9 will get a free set of regular Buds Z, while OnePlus 9 Pro buyers will be gifted the Steve Harrington Edition. However, the OnePlus 9R and OnePlus Watch wouldn’t be eligible for the free gift.

OnePlus 9 series launch

OnePlus recently revealed the launch date for its next flagship lineup. The OnePlus 9 Pro, OnePlus 9R, OnePlus 9, and OnePlus Watch (rumored) will be launched on March 23. The event will be streamed online at 10 AM ET / 2 PM GMT / 7:30 PM IST.

OnePlus confirms a 50MP ultra-wide camera for its upcoming flagship

As the OnePlus 9 series inches closer to its official launch on March 23, official teasers revealing some of its headlining features have started to drop. After giving us a glimpse of the OnePlus 9 Pro’s design, OnePlus has dropped another major tease for its upcoming flagship, specifically its camera hardware. Founder and CEO Pete La shared another render of a OnePlus 9 series device on Twitter earlier today, confirming a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera for the device

Sony IMX766 sensor has already appeared made its way to the OPPO Reno5 Pro+

The image shared by Lau specifically mentions the Sony IMX766 sensor that will be used for wide-angle photography on the OnePlus 9 Pro. Now, OPPO has already used this sensor on its high-end Reno5 Pro+ smartphone that was recently launched in China. A quick look at its spec sheet reveals that the IMX766 is a 1/1.56-inch sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a 6-element lens assembly.

Yes, OnePlus 9 will come with a charger. Alas, that’s a thing we worry about now!

It is also mentioned that the sensor supports hardware-level HDR – something OPPO calls DOL HDR – which theoretically means much better control over colors and more crisp results. Interestingly, OnePlus has already revealed that it has partnered with Hasselblad for the OnePlu 9 series to improve upon camera performance aspects like color tuning and sensor calibration.

The main camera on OnePlus 9 Pro will be capable of 4K video capture at 120FPS

Additionally, the OPPO Reno5 Pro+ has employed both Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) to stabilize the photos and videos captured by the Sony IMX766 sensor, and it is quite likely that we might see a similar approach being followed for the OnePlus 9 Pro. A couple of days ago, OnePlus also confirmed that its upcoming flagship will employ the Sony IMX789 sensor that can capture 4K videos at 120FPS, confirming a previous leak as well.

OnePlus 9 Pro might use an LTPO display to enable adaptive refresh rate

In the past few years, it has been public knowledge that OnePlus phones have borrowed heavily from OPPO’s own high-end smartphones. And now that OnePlus has merged its R&D division with OPPO, it can be safely assumed that some OPPO Reno5 Pro+ inspiration will be visible on the OnePlus 9 series’ hardware too. Additionally, OnePlus chief Pete Lau also took over the command as Senior Vice President and Chief Product Experience Officer at OPLUS – a joint entity that is a majority shareholder in both OnePlus and OPPO.

OnePlus 9 Pro concept poses for camera rocking the classic sandstone finish

OnePlus is launching the next flagship series on March 23, and just like clockwork, it has leaked in all its glory prior to the launch. While leaked images of the OnePlus 9 Pro have been circulating around the web for a while now, the latest one suggests that the company is prepping to bring back its classic Sandstone finish on the upcoming phone. For reference, OnePlus One was introduced with the Sandstone rear back in 2014. Now, OnePlus seems to be going back to the same material for the OnePlus 9 Pro, and it looks rad.

The latest development comes from Techdroider’s Instagram, where the tipster posted three images of a OnePlus 9 Pro concept that is apparently based on leaked renders we’ve seen so far. One of them shows the classic Sandstone finish in black, and the camera rings are outlined in gold, which makes it look appealing. Moreover, the tipster gave us a look at the Settings screen of the About Phone section. It reiterates the leaked specifications.

According to the leaked OnePlus 9 Pro concept images, the OnePlus 9 Pro will be powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC. It will come with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage on at least one variant. On the optics front, it will sport a 48MP + 50MP + 8MP + 2MP quad rear camera setup. OnePlus has already confirmed that it is working with Sony on a custom IMX 789 sensor that will support 12-bit RAW, and it is said to be up to 64-times more colorful than before. It is touted to deliver more dynamic and vibrant colors in pictures.

OnePlus 9 Pro will feature a 6.7-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It will have support for Hasselblad Camera for Mobile, which is said to offer improved HDR video recording, as well as support for capturing 4K 120FPS and 8K 30FPS video.

On the other hand, the OnePlus 9 is rumored to come equipped with a 6.55-inch display with support for a 120Hz refresh rate. It could be HDR-ready and have a 2400 x 1080p (Full-HD+) pixel resolution on its 20:9 panel. Both smartphones are tipped to back a 4,500mah battery with support for some sort of fast charging.

[UPDATE: An earlier version of the article insinuated that the leaked images are of an actual OnePlus. However, the device shown in the pictures is actually a concept based on leaked renders. We’ve accordingly updated the story. The error is deeply regretted.]

Here’s how OnePlus plans to benefit from the Hasselblad partnership

Today, OnePlus announced that it will be launching the OnePlus 9 series on March 23. The launch will be live-streamed at 10:30 AM ET / 2:00 PM GMT / 7:30 PM IST. Ahead of the launch, OnePlus has detailed its plans of how it plans to benefit from the Hasselblad partnership. The brand has announced that the two companies have already been cooperating on the revamped camera system – Hasselblad Camera for Mobile – for the new OnePlus 9 Series.

OnePlus has also announced its plans to invest more than USD 150 million over the next three years “to further build out its mobile imaging capabilities in its ongoing pursuit of delivering the best smartphone camera experience for its users.” Through the new R&D collaboration, will work together to deliver “vastly improved camera systems” on future OnePlus smartphones – starting with the OnePlus 9 series. As per the official release, the OnePlus-Hasselblad partnership will continuously develop over the next three years.

With the OnePlus 9 series, the company plans software improvements including color tuning and sensor calibration. Further, the collaboration would be extending to more dimensions in the future. The first and most technically challenging, outcome of this collaboration is advanced color calibration. The new color solution – Natural Color Calibration with Hasselblad – aims to bring more perceptually accurate and natural-looking colors to photos taken with OnePlus flagship cameras.

There is a new Hasselblad Pro Mode as well. It will bring Hasselblad’s sensor calibration to a smartphone for the first time. Theoretically, it should result in accurate and natural colors for better post-editing. This mode will include a new interface based on Hasselblad’s image processing software to give users an authentic Hasselblad look and feel. It will allow you to adjust ISO, focus, exposure times, white balance, and more. Users will also be able to use 12-bit RAW format for even richer colors and higher dynamic range.

As part of the USD 150 million strategic OnePlus-Hasselblad partnership, the Chinese brand plans on further developing four major research and development labs around the world, including two innovative imaging labs based in the United States and Japan. Lastly, it will also develop new areas of smartphone imaging technology for future OnePlus camera systems. These include a panoramic camera with a 140-degree field of view, T-lens technology for lightning-fast focus in the front-facing camera, and a freeform lens – to be first introduced on the OnePlus 9 Series – that practically eliminates edge distortion in ultra-wide photos.

Hasselblad believes in the power of images and our mission is to continue pushing the boundaries on imaging technology. With this in mind, Hasselblad is determined to work together with OnePlus, an innovative company that shares the same vision and passion for technology. By partnering with OnePlus, we hope to put Hasselblad’s iconic design and outstanding image quality in the hands of more people and share our passion for incredible photography.

Jon Diele, Vice President, Hasselblad.

With OnePlus’ top-of-the-line hardware and computational photography and Hasselblad’s rich aesthetic knowledge in traditional photography, I am confident that the OnePlus 9 Series will be a major leap forward in our ability to deliver a premium, flagship camera.
