OPPO Find X3, Realme Race, Xiaomi Mi 11, and more confirmed to feature Snapdragon 888

Qualcomm announced its new flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 888 yesterday. While the company is yet to detail the specs of the chipset, several OEMs have begun the race to be ‘one of the firsts’ to use the latest Mobile Platform. Unsurprisingly, Qualcomm announced that the following companies will launch at least a device powered by their new SoC: ASUS, BlackShark, Lenovo, LG, MEIZU, Motorola, Nubia, Realme, OnePlus, OPPO, Sharp, Vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE.

As the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit, Xiaomi was one of the first companies to confirm that it will be using the Snapdragon 888 chipset on its upcoming Mi 11 flagship. It said:

In addition to the industry-leading 5G connectivity, it has brought groundbreaking breakthroughs and innovations in AI, gaming, and camera. OPPO also announced that it will be launching a new Find X series of devices powered by the Snapdragon 888 Mobile Platform in the first quarter of 2021.

OPPO will launch the first batch of flagship smartphones equipped with Snapdragon 888 in the first quarter of 2021, and we are extremely looking forward to this. We believe that the next generation of Find X series will bring an unparalleled new experience to users worldwide.

OPPO Vice President and Global Sales President Wu Qiang

Soon after, Realme sent out a press release announcing the name of its upcoming Snapdragon 888-powered smartphone. Realme ‘Race’ will be one of the first smartphones to debut with the latest chipset.

Here’s your first look at Realme Race – likely one of the first Snapdragon 888 phones

Alright, so Qualcomm has announced its latest flagship SoC – the Snapdragon 888 – that will power almost every Android flagship next year, and likely has Apple’s A14 Bionic in its sight. Let’s wait for the benchmarks to come for the latter part of the discussion though. Xiaomi has already called the dibs by announcing that its Mi 11 will be the first Snapdragon 888-powered smartphone. So far, a total of 14 OEMs have confirmed plans to launch smartphones armed with Qualcomm’s latest chip, with Realme being one of them. And we might already know what Realme’s offering will look like.

Realme Race

The folks over at GSMArena have obtained an image allegedly depicting the Realme Race, the Chinese company’s first smartphone that will draw power from the fire-breathing Snapdragon 888 SoC. However, a press release shared by Realme suggests that ‘Race’ is the codename, which means the device might hit the shelves carrying a different name. Realme was recently rumored to be working on a flagship device called Realme Ace with support for 65W fast charging, and we suspect the Realme Race might very well be the same device.

As per an alleged screenshot of the Realme Race’s About Phone page, the device will come equipped with 12GB of RAM and 256 gigs of onboard storage, although we expect different memory configurations to be on the table as well. The unit in question ran Realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11.

Coming to the aesthetics, the Realme Race appears to rock a glossy finish on a pearl white glass exterior. There’s a huge circular camera isle that houses four lenses, and going by their shape, it appears that Realme is not using a periscope camera system, which is easily identifiable by a rectangular lens opening. Unfortunately, we don’t have any information about the megapixel numbers yet, nor any other details about charging technology and display attributes.

Another Realme C-series phone could be coming soon

Realme recently launched the Realme C12 and Realme C15 budget phones in India. It looks like the company will soon add another model to its C-series. The Realme C17 has been spotted on Geekbench. It is listed with RMX2101 as the model number. The phone can be expected to arrive in the coming weeks. The Geekbench listing also indicates some of the key specifications of the device. A device with this model number was also spotted on a certification website earlier. It indicated the name ‘Realme C17’.

According to the listing, the Realme C17 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 SoC. It could come with 6GB RAM and run Android 10 out of the box. Further, the device scored 253 and 1248 points in single-core and multi-core tests respectively. The listing was uploaded on September 10. However, apart from this information, it doesn’t reveal anything else.

Realme C12 and C15 are the latest C-series smartphones in the budget-oriented Realme lineup. The phones are priced at Rs 8,999 and Rs 9,999 respectively. The Realme C17 is likely to be positioned above these two smartphones. The same is indicated by the naming scheme. Realme could also launch a lower RAM variant for the Realme C17 than the one that has been spotted on Geekbench. It will help the company keep its pricing aggressive.

The two latest Realme C-series devices share a lot of traits such as a huge 6,000mAh battery, MediaTek’s Helio G35 SoC, and a 6.5-inch HD+ display with a waterdrop notch at the top. However, the Realme C15 brings support for 18W fast charging. Further, it also sports a more powerful camera hardware.
