Sony Honami pictured alongside Xperia Z, camera UI screenshot leaked

The Sony Honami has been subject to many rumors, leaks, and reports lately as we’re waiting for the phone to become official. In this latest set of images we’re taking a look at the Honami pictured side-by-side with the Xperia Z. As you can see in the images above an below, the Xperia i1 (Honami) and the Xperia Z are very much alike. The main design principles are identical. However, the Honami appears to be a tad longer and wider, but it might also be an aberration of the images due to perspective. As a bonus there ...

CAT B15 vs. every waterproof phone we have (Video)

Just because we’re not reviewing the CAT B15 doesn’t mean we’re not trying to squeeze some knowledge from its unyielding aluminum-and-plastic chassis. We’ve already shown you what comes in the box alongside the $349 Android smartphone; now it’s time to see how the oddball from Caterpillar stacks up against the competition in the U.S. waterproof-smartphone space. T-Mobile shares details on start of Lumia 925 & Xperia Z sales, reveals new device upgrade offer

Back in June, T-Mobile sent out invitations to an event where it claimed it would be showing off some of its “boldest moves yet.” We speculated at the time about what it might have on the agenda, and besides some news about more of its “UNcarrier” plans, we also thought we might hear some specifics about the start of sales for both the Nokia Lumia 925 and the Sony Xperia Z, both previously announced. That event finally took place this afternoon, and it looks like we were right on the money. Both the ...

Waterproof phones are useless without a waterproof interface

Growing up on sailboats gives you a few useful skills. You learn to stand on wobbly ground a little better than your friends, to duck quickly without asking questions, and you learn to appreciate beer from a can, rather than a fragile and unwieldy bottle. You also develop a heightened affinity for electronics that can withstand the occasional sea spray or temporary dunk: on a boat, a waterproof phone can be a real lifesaver – particularly if it’s not saddled with the added ...

What’s T-Mobile planning for its July event?

T-Mobile has just started sending out press invites to a New York City event scheduled for July 10. As you can see above, the carrier boasts that some of its “boldest moves yet” are coming… but what does that mean? Well, let’s think about what T-Mobile could be planning to announce. We just saw a leaked roadmap that showed a few things happening in the days following July 10. On July 14, there’s mention of a “major EIT release,” and rumor has it ...

Samsung, the Galaxy S 4 Active is not as rugged as we want

Phones are expensive. It’s ironic but true. I find it odd that the average computer can be much more affordable than the average smartphone. Shouldn’t this be the other way around? If we were to judge the cost of building a computer in comparison to a smartphone, computers are bigger; they require more powerful technology to work, so in basic but un-researched logic, smartphones shouldn’t be as expensive as they are. The reason why we pay so much money for them is because there are too many third parties involved in the smartphone industry, and because they’re the ...

Sony may be planning Xperia Z Snapdragon 800 upgrade

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 is finally about to arrive on the smartphone scene. We’ve heard about plans to feature the chip in upcoming phones, but there are also some manufacturers interested in bringing the SoC to existing models as a quick-and-dirty update: Samsung appears to be doing just such a thing for the LTE-Advanced version of the Galaxy S 4. Now we’re wondering if Sony might be ...

Hey, T-Mobile: leaving your fans hanging is just mean

Social media, in its many forms, has seriously broken down some of the walls between companies and their user bases. In the past, if you had problems with your Samsung phone, you’d be taking things up one-on-one with some random customer service rep, and if things didn’t work out they way you liked, there was not much to be done about it. Today, users post their complaints on Facebook or Twitter for all to see, and to an extent, taking these private issues public has created a greater incentive for companies to resolve them. On the flip side, this direct line to customers gives ...

T-Mobile confirms Sony Xperia Z rumors

Remember last week how T-Mobile was teasing a waterproof smartphone? It posted a video last Wednesday showing such a handset in action (though without revealing the actual phone itself) and promised to have more news about this hardware to follow on Thursday. Except, that didn’t happen on Thursday, nor Friday, and we even managed to go all weekend without news about this mystery waterproof phone arriving. OK, sure we were expecting it to be the Sony Xperia Z (especially ...

Everyone’s teasing waterproof smartphones: now it’s T-Mobile’s turn

June is well upon us, and as those of us in the northern hemisphere get ready to start easing our way into summer, that’s going to mean beating the heat anyway we can. If your plans include trips to the ocean, lake, or pool, you might want to think about keeping your smartphone safe from all that water. To that end, waterproof phones are more popular than ever this year, and carriers are starting to get excited about selling them. We just saw a video from AT&T that sure seemed to suggest it could reveal its plans ...
