Microsoft Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 suffering from overheating

We’ve got to hand it to Microsoft for doing an amazing job with the design and the concept of their surface line-up. Both tablets are beautifully designed, and each caters to a specific type of customer in the market, since not everyone wants a professional tablet. That said, there’s no denying that the guys at Redmond have struggled to make these products relevant, no matter how much money they’ve thrown at marketing them against competitors. Their Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 have been the upgrades that many have been waiting for, but it seems that not everything about ...

CyanogenMod pulled from Google Play, because Android is “that open”

It seems as if it was just yesterday that we were all celebrating the fact that a CyanogenMod installer became available on the Google Play Store. As the company became incorporated, it focused on making its services easier to use through the typical channels that every Android user knows in order to make it popular. This worked, and for a while we enjoyed the benefits behind it, but sadly this just came to a dramatic halt. As of today the CyanogenMod installer app was pulled from the Google Play Store. According to the CyanogenMod blog: “After reaching out to the Play team, their ...

These are the top two tablets I might consider for Black Friday

We’re typically picky when it comes to tablets. Unlike smartphones, which most people would rather not do without, tablets aren’t a necessity for most. For the most part, they’re still luxury items, and their hefty price tags often turn potential buyers away. Of course, there are a few exceptions to the rule, such as budget tablets. Oh, and the occasional killer deal. Black Friday is a great time to buy new tech. Millions of shoppers across the United States will line up with the masses late Thanksgiving evening or early Friday morning to stock up on holiday gifts, new, ...

US Carriers can now block stolen phones abroad

If your phone was recently stolen and you reported it as such, there are high possibilities that it is working for a new owner, but not one that’s close to you. Carriers block stolen phones from being activated in a very effective way, but their main problem was that these black lists of devices were not accessible to carriers outside the United States. Smartphones can cost twice as much as they do in the United States when you sell them abroad, so you can imagine how much of a lucrative business it is for thieves to steal a phone, regardless of how much you had it blocked. ...

Android 4.4 KitKat reaches the Google Nexus One, sort of..

For many of us, remembering the Nexus One is bringing back some good memories. Most of us still find this to be one of the greatest Android phones of all time, and if you’re still using one or own one, please enjoy our jealousy for a couple of minutes. Sadly, the fact that the device didn’t enjoy the benefits of Ice Cream Sandwich and is still stuck to Gingerbread is the main reason why we know that most of us were forced to move on to more powerful hardware. That said, one of the benefits of KitKat is the fact that it was designed to run on low-powered hardware. It was only a ...

So you’ve decided to spring for a special gift this holiday season – either for a romantic partner, a family member, or yourself (you heel). Shunning more mainstream ideas like a quadrocopter or that perennial snooze-fest, the necktie, you’ve opted to give the gift of communication this year. You’re buying a smartphone, despite how many hassles you’re bound to run into when altering a wireless contract that’s not in your name, and dealing with sales reps who

Dual-SIM HTC One with removable back comes to the UK

Back in April, even before the HTC One was available for pre-order in the US, we’ve heard of a certain HTC 802w, a phone that basically looks identical to the HTC One, but has a removable back cover. Underneath that, there are two SIM slots, as well as a microSD card slot for expanding the internal storage. Underneath the aluminum there are the same specs that you are used to by now from the HTC One: a 4.7-inch Full HD screen, 1.7GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, four-megapixel UltraPixel camera, and the ...
