Verizon will give you up to $1,000 for your broken phone!

We have been covering deals for quite a while, and let’s be honest, the best savings come with a trade-in. However, companies usually ask for devices in good condition, meaning that your broken phone may get you little to no trade-in value. Well, it seems that Verizon is changing that, as its new deal will let you and many other customers get more for your damaged phones.

I know what you’re thinking, and let me assure you, THIS IS NOT A JOKE! Starting tomorrow, April 1, Verizon will let new and current customers get up to $1,000 trade-in value for old, cracked, or water-damaged phones to use toward its best 5G phones.

“Beginning tomorrow, April 1, and for the first time ever, for new and existing customers: trade in your cracked or water damaged phone and get up to $1,000 off our best 5G phones with a port-in and select Unlimited plans – and that’s #NoJoke”

It may seem hard to believe, but this is 100 percent legit. So, pick up your damaged device and head over to the nearest Verizon store since most of them are already open to the public. Experience the Verizon In-store experience, which is now even better, as you now have the opportunity to reserve an appointment to shop. You know, just to make sure you can go and check out your new device at a time that’s convenient for you, and you can do so through the Store Locator page or the My Verizon app.

Remember that this offer will be available for a limited time, so you may want to hurry. Make sure you don’t miss out on the opportunity to stop being that person that’s still walking around with a broken phone and turn those useless devices that are nothing more than pretty paperweights into something useful, something like a shiny new phone.

Verizon sets the date for shutting down its 3G network, for real this time

The saga of Verizon planning to sunset its 3G services, only to delay it again might finally come to end. The Big Red originally had plans to stop 3G operations in back 2019, but extended it to 2020. Then in January this year, the company put those plans on hold indefinitely. Now, the company has announced it is going to shut down its 3G CDMA network – for good this time – on December 31, 2022.

December 31, 2022 is the day when Verizon finally says goodbye to 3G

“We worked for the past several years to help those who still have 3G devices transfer to devices capable of accessing the 4G LTE or 5G networks and continue to actively work with remaining 3G customers to migrate them to new devices and technology. As a result of those efforts, we can now report that more than 99% of our customers are using the enhanced features of 4G LTE or 5G, with less than 1% still accessing the 3G network.”
Verizon

To recall, Verizon no longer allows activation of non-4G devices on its network, and is now trying to migrate its remaining 3G customers to 4G or 5G with a host of plans and services for both its regular and business customers. However, Verizon says it is strongly encouraging the existing 3G users to make the upgrade. Verizon notes that it would be among the last carriers to abandon the legacy cellular networking standard.

Existing 3G users might face network degradation and lack of support moving forward

And to achieve that, Verizon says that users might experience what it calls ‘a degradation or complete loss of service’ as the company also plans to reduce its support services and will only offer assistance for extremely limited troubleshooting. More details about Verizon’s CDMA services can and the facilities that are allowed / defunct can be seen here

However, Verizon has made it clear that the December 31, 2022 shutdown date for its 3G telecom infrastructure will not be extended again. So, yeah, this pretty much is the final nail in the coffin.

OnePlus 9 series gets Verizon nod to work on its 5G network

OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are now up for pre-orders in the US market, but the carrier situation is a bit tricky at the moment. To start, T-Mobile is the only major carrier right now whose 5G network the OnePlus 9 series phones can latch on to. If you go with another carrier, says AT&T, you can only use 4G LTE, and will simply end up paying a 5G tax. The situation has been no different for Verizon, but that is about to change.

Only the OnePlus 9 Pro supports Verizon's faster UW 5G network

Verizon executive George Koroneos has revealed that OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro have been certified by Verizon to work on its 5G network. If you’ve been on a Visible line, you will also be able to enjoy 5G on your OnePlus 9 series phone. The 5G certification applies to both business and regular tiers of Verizon’s service, which means you don’t have to worry about being left out if you maintain a business account line. But there is still a catch – the flavor of Verizon 5G you can enjoy on your OnePlus 9.

You see, OnePlus 9 only supports the Sub-6GHz band, which means it can only work on the much slower Verizon 5G Nationwide network. But that’s not necessarily good news, as the Verizon 5G Nationwide network offers speeds slower than 4G LTE. PCMag’s Sascha Segan recently ran some tests across multiple locations and found that Verizon’s 4G network actually is much faster than its nationwide 5G

Verizon is yet to start selling the OnePlus 9 series

However, if you want to enjoy the perks of Verizon’s Ultra Wideband (UW) 5G, you’ll have to buy the pricier OnePlus 9 Pro because that’s the only model in the series to support mmWave 5G band. While the carrier situation has been sorted out, Verizon is yet to start selling the phones officially.

If you have a Verizon line and don’t want to switch carriers, you can pre-order an unlocked OnePlus 9 or 9 Pro from the official OnePlus e-store, Best Buy, and B&H Photo Video in the US. Irrespective of the retailer you choose, you can buy an unlocked OnePlus 9 or OnePlus 9 Pro and enjoy Verizon’s 5G network on it.

LG starts rolling out Android 11 update in the US starting with V60 ThinQ

Well, looks like LG phone owners in the US are finally going to get a taste of Android 11. Yes, a majority of OEMs began seeding the update a while ago, and Google has even released the first Developer Preview of Android 12. But hey, it’s better to finally have it, than not getting the upgrade at all. The update is rolling out for both Verizon and T-Mobile units of the LG flagship.

The official support page for LG V60 ThinQ 5G UW on Verizon mentions that the update started rolling out on February 26 and it carries the build number V600VM20a. But there is some disappointment here. The likes of Samsung have released the March security update for some of their phones, but the Android 11 update for LG V60 ThinQ arrives with the January patch.

T-Mobile, on the other hand, is shipping the Android 11 update (build number V600TM20f) with the February security patch. Notably, the update also enables 5G SA (Standalone) for LG V60 ThinQ units on its network.

As for the changelog, you get the usual set of goodies such as floating bubbles for notifications, overhauled controls, native screen recorder, notifications, wireless Android Auto, and scheduled dark mode. You also get better privacy tools such as the ability to grant one-time app permissions.

Listed below are some additional changes that the Verizon-locked LG V60 ThinQ gets:

Wireless Emergency Alert: Applications and Menu update: In Settings > Network & Internet > Wireless Emergency Alerts, the menu has been updated with Google WEA.

Tap & pay: Tap & pay is now shown when NFC is on, and disappears when it is off. It has also moved from Default apps to Settings > Connected devices > NFC.

Camera:

  • Tutorial slider: The order of tutorial in the slider windows has been changed to Camera modes and Front/rear cameras. Also the background color has changed to black.
  • Quick Video: Press and hold the shutter button to record a short video. Drag and hold the button for burst mode.
  • Switch camera button: The button shape has changed in Photo, Video and Time-lapse mode.

Quick settings:

  • Three icons (Focus mode, Bedtime mode and Nearby Share) have been added to the main notification panel from the edit list (hidden).
  • Focus Mode: You can pause distracting apps and hide their notifications on your schedule.
  • Bedtime Mode: Avoid interruptions such as calls and notification while you sleep.
  • Nearby Share: Turn on for sharing with nearby devices together.

Best iPhone 12 Deals – Where to buythe iPhone 12 series

Apple’s new iPhone family has something for everyone, whether it’s the small-yet-equally-mighty iPhone 12 mini with a 5.4-inch screen, the two 6.1-inch iPhone 12 and 12 Pro models, or the monstrous iPhone 12 Pro Max, which is more than just a bigger iPhone 12 Pro and is the biggest iPhone ever released.

Clearly, the global situation this year has resulted in delays for certain components. As a result, the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro both go up for preorder on October 16 and ship on October 23. Preorders for the smaller Mini and larger Max variants are delayed to November 6, with shipping starting November 13.

With that in mind, if you want to buy the 12 or 12 Pro, we’ve rounded up the best iPhone 12 deals below. If you’re interested in the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Mini, we’ve also included the options below, but you’ll need to wait a couple of weeks to pre-order.

Where to buy the iPhone 12

Best Buy

If you head over to Best Buy right now, you can save up to $1,000 on your new iPhone 12. It all depends on the carrier you choose. First, Sprint, now part of T-Mobile, lets you save from $100 to $500 with qualified activation and an eligible device’s trade-in. We then focus on AT&T, where you can save up to $800 on your new device with the same conditions as Sprint, which means you have to activate a new line on one of AT&T’s qualified plans, and you also have to trade-in an eligible device.

Now, if you want to get your new iPhone 12 on Verizon’s network, there are two options to choose from, as you can save from $100 to $500 with qualified activation and trade-in on an iPhone 7 or newer. However, you may also want to consider the possibility of saving up to $1,000 thanks to a BoGo deal. To get this deal, you need a qualified activation on Unlimited plans for Verizon, and at least one new line is required. Savings will appear as a monthly bill credit, but it won’t be discounted through Best Buy at the time of purchase.

Still, if you don’t want to save on your new iPhone 12, you can also get your device on Verizon starting at $33.33/mo. For 24 months. Sprint will have you paying $34.58/mo. For two years, but if you want to pay less, you can go for AT&T’s option that will have you paying $26.67/mo. But this also means you will have to pay for 30 months.

    iPhone 12
You can save up to $100 on the iPhone 12 if you buy your device and activate it on Sprint’s network. Alternatively, if you want to spread the cost of your new iPhone over interest-free monthly payments, you can do so using Best Buy's Credit Card.

    Apple

If you head over to Apple’s online store, you will see that the iPhone 12 is selling for $799, if you buy it upfront, or you can get it with an installment plan that will have you paying $33.29 a month. However, you can also choose to trade-in an eligible device, and this will get you up to $500 depending on the device you have to offer. Unfortunately, if you want your phone to come unlocked, you will have to pay $829 before trade-in, and your monthly payments would go up to $34.54.

    Apple iPhone 12 trade-in pricing:

    • iPhone 11 Pro Max – Up to $500
    • iPhone 11 Pro – Up to $450
    • iPhone 11 – Up to $350
    • iPhone XS Max – Up to $370
    • iPhone XS – Up to $300
    • iPhone XR – Up to $250
    • iPhone X – Up to $250
    • iPhone 8 Plus – Up to $210
    • iPhone 8 – Up to $140

If you don’t want to trade-in for an instant discount against your purchase, you can also trade-in your phone for an Apple Gift Card that can be redeemed in Apple’s stores or on Apple.com.

      Trade-in
You can save as much as $500 if your current iPhone is in good shape and in working conditions, but it also depends on the model you have.
        iPhone 12 mini
The unlocked version of the iPhone 12 mini with a 5.4-inch display starts at $729, or you can get it from $30.37/mo for 24 months in its 64GB storage option. The 128GB version is priced at $779 or $32.45/mo, and the 256GB version can be yours for $879 or $36.62/mo for 24 months.
          iPhone 12
The unlocked version of the vanilla iPhone 12 starts at $829 or 24 monthly payments of $34.54, while the 128GB and the 256GB storage options sell for $879 and $979, respectively, if you plan on making a one-time payment, or you can also choose to pay $36.62 or $40.79 for 24 months.
            iPhone 12 Pro
Now, the iPhone 12 Pro starts at $999 with 128GB in storage space. You would then have to pay $1,099 for 256GB storage and $12,99 for 512GB. Monthly installments would have you pay $41.62 for the 128GB variant, $45.79 for 256GB, and $54.12 for the 512GB version for 24 months.
              iPhone 12 Pro Max
Finally, the iPhone 12 Pro Max starts at $1,099 with 128GB in storage space, which can also be yours for 24 monthly installments of $45.79. The 256GB version is priced at $1,199 or $49.95 a month for two years. The maxed-out version will cost you $1,399, and it comes with 512GB storage space.

If you’d rather buy it from your carrier, we’ve also rounded up the best carrier deals below.

Best iPhone 12 deals with US carriers

              Verizon

If you don’t want to take up any savings, you can get your new iPhone for as low as $29.16/mo, but there are several other options to consider, since Verizon is probably the carrier that offers more ways to save on your new iPhone 12.

              • The iPhone 12 mini starts at $29.16 per month for 24 months on Verizon device payment (0% APR, $699.99 retail)
              • The iPhone 12 starts at $33.33 per month for 24 months on Verizon device payment (0% APR, $799.99 retail)
              • The iPhone 12 Pro starts at $41.66 per month for 24 months on Verizon device payment (0% APR, $999.99 retail)
              • The iPhone 12 Pro max starts at $45.83 per month for 24 months on Verizon device payment (0% APR, $1,099.99 retail)

Now, if you want to save some cash, you can trade-in an eligible device and get a new line to get up to $750 off. You can upgrade your current device and get up to $440 off, or buy one and get $800 off the second device, and yes, you are also going to need a new line.

More importantly, Verizon is also the network with the biggest deployment of those superfast 5G speeds that Apple mentioned. Alongside a new Nationwide 5G network launched alongside the new iPhone, Verizon has the 5G Ultra-wideband mmWave network that offers speeds of up to 4Gbps in 55 cities and growing.

                iPhone 12
Verizon has great offers for switchers, existing customers and business customers to help you get a new iPhone 12

                AT&T

Well, if you want to get your new device over at AT&T, you can get the 64GB base model for $26.67/mo. However, you can save up to $700 with an eligible trade-in, which would leave your new device for just $3.33/mo if you go for the 64GB base model. If you want more storage space, you would also end up paying more, as the 128GB version and the 256GB options would cost you $28.34 and $31.67/mo, respectively, or $5 and $8.33/mo.

                  iPhone 12
The third-largest carrier in the US has announced new deals on the iPhone 12 that enables both new and current customers to get the new iPhone for free, kinda.

                  T-Mobile

T-Mobile is offering up to $830 savings on your new iPhone 12 after certain conditions have been met. First, you need to join Magenta and trade-in an eligible device, which basically will get you a new iPhone for free. You will see the trade-in credits and the balance in the 24 monthly bill credits for your new phone. Of course, you will have to trade in your iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 11, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, or iPhone X in good condition to get your iPhone 12 for free. While the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will get you up to $600 off, and previous models such as the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6S, and the iPhone 6S Plus can get you $450 savings.

                    iPhone 12
5G speed. A14 Bionic, the fastest chip in a smartphone. An edge-to-edge OLED display. And Night mode on every camera.

                    Accessories

As we expected, the iPhone 12 box doesn’t come with a power adapter or wired headphones. There is a USB-C to Lightning cable, so at least there’s that? If you don’t know what USB-C is, or you’re coming from an older iPhone and haven’t got a newish iPad or Macbook, you’ll probably need a USB-C power adapter.

                      20W USB-C Power Adapter
The Apple 18W USB‑C Power Adapter offers fast, efficient charging at home, in the office, or on the go, for just $29.

If wired earbuds are a must, then the lack of headphone jack means you’ll want something that’s Lightning compatible. Apple’s official EarPods are the ones you used to get in the box and cost $19, whilst the upgrade pick if you’re interested in something wireless would be the original AirPods for $125. Of course, if you want the best true wireless earbuds for the iPhone right now, look no further than the AirPods Pro, which is currently on sale at $199!
