ZTE Axon 7 scores Android 7.1.1 stateside, T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling support included

Roughly one month after making the pivotal jump from Android 6.0 Marshmallow to 7.0 Nougat, the US ZTE Axon 7 also gets the less important 7.1 update.

Limited edition ZTE Axon 7 with 6GB RAM and Force Touch arrives stateside at $500

While the ZTE Axon 7 was back in the day unveiled with “up” to 6GB RAM, the affordable Android flagship’s top drawer SKU never made its way to US shores. The fast-rising albeit somewhat controversial Chinese OEM also failed to bring one of its experimental Force Touch-enabled devices stateside.

But everything has a beginning, and starting now, you can order a “limited edition” $500 Axon 7 from zteusa.com. Available in “Ion Gold” only, this “ultimate premium handset” offers Force Touch technology for a “more intuitive user experience”, bumping up internal storage to 128GB and the already generous 4 gig RAM count to a mobile record-matching 6GB as well.

Unfortunately, ZTE doesn’t try very hard to knock out any concerns you might have over the utility of the Force Touch tech also reportedly headed to the Galaxy S8 early next year, basically telling us nothing about how it really functions on iPhone rivals.

Still, the extra 64GB digital hoarding room and 2GB random-access memory should fully justify the $100 premium applied to the standard US ZTE Axon 7 variant. Both models come with the same 5.5-inch Quad HD screen, top-shelf Hi-Fi audio, Snapdragon 820 processor, 20MP OIS + EIS rear camera, 8MP selfie shooter, 4G LTE bands, fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C port, 3,250 mAh battery, and for the time being, Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Newegg jumps on Black Friday preview bandwagon with a number of enticing mobile deals

Not a big fan of computer hardware and software anymore? Not a problem, as Newegg also sells smartphones, tablets and intelligent wearable products at pretty great prices these days. More so around the holidays, of course, with the e-tailer’s Black Friday 2016 deal extravaganza detailed on the heels of similar Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target and Staples reveals.

Interested in a $250 ZTE Axon 7 Mini, $180 Asus ZenFone 3 Laser or perhaps an age-old, never-cheaper $180 32GB Apple iPad 4, but not really looking forward to spend the day (or night) after Thanksgiving furiously refreshing Newegg’s overloaded home webpage?

No need to wait so very long, as discounts will in fact be valid from next Monday, November 21, all the way through Saturday, November 26, at 11:59 pm PT. Quantities are obviously limited, though, and “subject to availability”, so be sure you check the Huawei Watch at $200 and up, or $220 ZTE Axon Pro off your shopping list as early as possible.

Windows convertible enthusiasts can opt for a $799 Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with Core i5, 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD or $470 i5 Surface Pro 3, while cash-strapped Android phone buyers have a $150 non-Pro original Axon and $200 Asus ZenFone Zoom to compare and contrast. Last but not least, the $350 Honor 8 will apparently come bearing “exclusive gifts.”

ZTE Axon 7 mini packs quite a punch in not-so-tiny body

And so it has come to this. 5.2-inch smartphones marketed as diminutive flagships. Or, as ZTE puts it in its Axon 7 mini-announcing press release, proof “power, performance and premium experience does not have to lack in a smaller form factor.”Smaller by just 0.3 inches, mind you, in screen diagonal, 4mm as far as device height goes, another 4 in width, and a “massive” 22 grams less in weight. Not long ago, the ZTE Axon 7 mini would have probably been deemed a giant, but now all of a sudden it’s ...

ZTE Axon Max 2017 should get similar cameras, Snapdragon 625

To be honest, the Axon Max that ZTE debuted for its domestic audience last year didn’t look to be a welcome addition. Sure, the company had some aesthetics going on and a large screen for the people who prefer them. The Snapdragon 617 inside of it was somewhat weak, though.Well, good news and bad news — GFXBench has listed a device that looks to be the next version of the ZTE Axon Max. There are ...
