VRS Design High Pro Shield case for LG V20: Protecting a tank of a phone

Protecting large phones is a tricky proposition. If the phone is already big, many people won’t be interested in packing on additional bulk. Even with current trends, making phones more durable, devices with larger screens are inherently more vulnerable. More glass surface area, more chances of breaking it.Cases serve as a way to protect, customize our phone’s style, and sometimes add a little functionality. What to do with a phone like the LG V20. The general idea around ...

Mozo cuts back on back covers for Lumia 950

Finland’s own Mozo is in the business of producing back covers, mostly for Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile devices. Sure, it does the odd iPhone case, but the Lumias (and mentions of Nokia) that pop up on the device list are just overwhelming. But Mozo confirmed to theWINdoze that it’s had to cut back on some of its more vibrantly-colored polycarbonate covers based on “the recent Microsoft news”. Yep, even the Nokia-esque covers are dying out in favor of the fancier leather and ...

Chinese company commercializes Android OS case for iPhones with MESUIT

The dream may have been achieved, but can it come to the masses? Well, leave it to China to bring down the house.Last month, Tendigi developer Nick Lee had built a prototype of a hardware addition to an iPhone that can make it run Android. It seems like Haimawan, a company working with OS virtualization, has run with that momentum by releasing the MESUIT this week, a case that lets Android and iOS run simultaneously on the ...

Snowden and a hacker design radio “kill switch” for an iPhone

Pre-order a LG Stylo 2 Plus at MetroPCS, get a free folio case

As previously teased, T-Mobile prepaid brand MetroPCS is preparing to sell the LG Stylo 2 Plus, a brand name that changes about every time we get to mention it. It sounds like a slightly more decent mid-range phone to carry a little writing stick with in 2016, — though it will be carrying a 13-megapixel main camera and not a 16-megapixel one like foreign variants — but as the late Billy Mays ...

OtterBox uniVERSE is a modular iPhone case

The last thing you think of when you hear about a “modular smartphone” would be Apple. It’s not Project Ara, it’s not PuzzlePhone, it’s not even a Fairphone. An iPhone is all about what’s on the phone and the accessories you can get for it.Well, case maker

LG introduces Quick Cover for G5, “a smartphone that does not officially exist”

How prescient.LG has gone ahead either in sardonic fashion or a state of hubris and blasted out a new version of its “touch-enabled Quick Cover” case, explicitly for the “speculative LG G5.” We were first introduced to some of the new features this Quick Cover will have back when the K10 got its own case. The usual ...

ZAGG Rugged Folio for iPad mini review (Video)

Some view iPads and Android tablets as little more than devices made for multimedia consumption – watching YouTube videos, playing games, reading books, and Web browsing. But some people seek a little more out of their tablets and opt to pair them with a Bluetooth keyboard. The problem is, a lot of mobile keyboards are poorly executed. They’re either completely separate or they don’t add a lot of protection.ZAGG has the answer to this problem: the Rugged Folio. Available for both iPad mini models ...

“Wello” case tracks your health with your current iPhone

As much as Samsung wants you to buy its new Galaxy S5, not everyone is sold on buying a new Galaxy. The company has fitted its new flagship with all the health sensors it could, like a heart rate monitor, but what if you want to do this without having to buy a new phone? Well, there are some wearable solutions out there, but a company named Azoi just came out of the blue with an iPhone case that pretends to compete. The new “Wello” case is designed to track your blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, blood oxygen levels, receive ECG waves and even track the health of your ...

ZENS Wireless Charging Flip Case for iPhone 5 review

Wireless charging, you either hate it or love it. Here at Pocketnow, it’s about an even split. Either way, it’s something more and more smartphones are shipping with. And if it’s something you don’t particularly care for, there’s no one saying you have to use wireless charging if your phone has it – it’s simply nice to have the option. Unfortunately for iPhone users, wireless charging simply isn’t one of those things Apple seems to care too much about, along with NFC, ...

Putting your phone in a case vs. letting it run around naked

Apparently I’m a bit of an anomaly when it comes to carrying a smartphone. During my Windows Mobile (and Pocket PC) days, I carried my phone around in a holster. Don’t judge me! Everyone with a cellphone carried it in a holster back then. Most of the time my holsters would last for three or four phones before it became worn and needed to be replaced. In those days I didn’t put my phone in a case. I was even phasing out screen protectors. That holster was the only protection my smartphone needed — and it worked very, very well! Fast-forward to today and it’s a ...

TLDR: Putting a thick case on a thin phone is tasteless. Stop it.

I saw something the other day that made me sad. Very sad. It was a slim, sleek, ultra light Samsung GSIII, with a freaking BMW strapped to it. Ok, so it wasn’t a BMW, but it was a case that looked like a snow tire wrapped around the phone. The back of the phone was literally 1 cm off the table top. Dang, it was ugly. And the sheer size of these monstrosities. Manufacturers put so much money into making their phones thin and light, and then we consumers take that design a chuck it right out the window for the cheapest piece of rubber we can pull off a shelf at a mall kiosk. It’s ...
