No Mate S2 or Mate 9 to be announced at IFA Berlin, Huawei exec confirms

Our expectations for Huawei’s pre-IFA product announcement event on Thursday probably need to be taken down a notch or two for them to still be “defied”, with the Nova series likely to fly solo to the capital city of Germany after all.Granted, it was a bit of a stretch to anticipate a (very) early September

Huawei Mate S sequel may pile on the curved screen edges

Huawei was the hustler of the smartphone industry in 2015. It had four poles holding up a tent that spread across the world, not just its home country. And if the company’s pomp and circumstance didn’t put the Mate S up in the product ranks of the P8, the Nexus 6P and the

Huawei Mate 8 officially slated for December 9 Chinese launch at $470 and up

Could Huawei’s latest flagship phablet outsell its super-popular predecessor, despite a slew of striking similarities shared with the slightly smaller Mate S? The fast-rising Chinese manufacturer reportedly believes so, aiming to build around one million ...

Huawei Mate 8 goes official in China with Kirin 950 inside, global launch to follow in Q1

If you’re thinking it’s a little weird of Huawei to take the wraps off its newest flagship phone on Turkey Day, even though the Mate 8 is headed to China first, fret not, as a CES 2016 introduction in Las Vegas should follow. Then, the massive aluminum powerhouse will go on sale worldwide “starting from Q1 2016”, which is probably when we’ll find out exactly what the Western world is supposed to get. In Huawei’s homeland, a “standard” Full HD Mate 8 edition is available, sans mention of Force Touch functionality or very many palpable upgrades compared to

Huawei Mate 8 definitely coming this year as the company’s iPhone 6s Plus rival

It feels logical to take former mobile underdog Huawei more seriously than ever now that the Chinese outfit has consolidated its spot on the global device manufacturer podium, especially with mid and high-enders on the rise everywhere. And mind you, the popularity of the Mate S and Nexus 6P ...

Huawei smartphone shipments exceed 27 million in Q3 thanks chiefly to high-end growth

Consumer trends are continuously shifting in the hyper-crowded and ultra-competitive mobile tech market, where flagship devices have all of a sudden become the main driving force behind the financial success of most influential OEMs.It’s tougher and tougher to challenge the likes of the just-unveiled LeTV Le 1s in the low-cost segment, even for China-based budget specialists such as Huawei, so the mid to high-end slice of the pie is now by far the juiciest.

iPhone 3D Touch used to weigh objects in this app

With 3D Touch on the Apple iPhone 6s (and 6s Plus), users are able to interact with the phone by touching the screen (pushing) with force (hence the name Force Touch on the Apple Watch). It was just a matter of time until someone reverse engineered (hacked, took advantage, you name it) of the feature, and, now, it looks ...

Huawei Mate S pre-orders open in handful of European countries without Force Touch

Technically, the world’s first announced handheld to feature a pressure-sensitive display hasn’t been Apple’s iPhone 6s, but rather the Android-based Huawei Mate S. The reason the Chinese device manufacturer isn’t making a huge fuss about the Force Touch-capable 5.5-incher is it’s not up for grabs yet anywhere around the globe.A non-“luxury” Mate S edition can be pre-ordered ...

One week with the Huawei Mate S (Video)

They’re poised to make one of the next Nexus phones later this month, and if there’s anything Huawei has proven it’s good at, it’s hardware. We briefly touched on the phone’s design at IFA 2015, and it’s still gorgeous and terrifically well-made. The chamfered edges lining the aluminum chassis convey a premium look and feel, and round out the sides to make it feel super comfortable to hold. The 5.5” AMOLED display isn’t the sharpest thing we saw at IFA, but at 1080p it’s still more than good enough for most people. There’s a 13 MP camera and LED flash around back, and ...

Five techies walk into IFA 2015… | Pocketnow Weekly 164

It might as well have been a bar. Or a dance club. Full of EDM, feathers and psychotic playhouses. Really, when you walk into the Messe Berlin around this time of year, you should expect and receive everything. Buzzed-about wearables from Huawei and Samsung made their ways to the fray. Sony wore its Xperia lineage with its sixth coat of paint. ZTE splashed more of its truer colors onto the newest Axon smartphone. And then the trunk of the show irreparably branches into something else. We’ll enjoy the climb as we head inside Mobilegeeks.de’s tech.lounge at IFA 2015 and join ...

Huawei Mate S beats Apple to the punch with Force Touch screen

Huawei didn’t come to IFA this year just to get sales rolling on the Huawei Watch – even though we are grateful to finally get the details on that, considering we’ve been waiting since winter for sales to start. Beyond wearables, Huawei also has a new premium smartphone to introduce, and today announces the Mate S, armed with a bevy of attractive features, including one that’s bound to have Apple ...
