We have been getting tons of rumors about the upcoming iPhone 12 lineup and several other devices, but this is the first time that we get information suggesting that Apple may hold two special events in Q3 2020.

According to leaker @ihacktu, we should get two Apple Special events. The first event would take place on September 8, and a second event would happen on October 27. The first event would be an online presentation of the new iPhone 12 lineup, the new Apple Watch, AirPower, and a new iPad. However, things seem to get more interesting for the second event, as we would get a new iPad Pro, MacBook, and MacBook Pro with Apple Silicon and the new Apple Glass. However, these are still rumors, so take them with some salt, and let’s wait and see if we get some sort of confirmation in the upcoming weeks.

According to MalwareTech, they made millions of dollars before the tweets were pulled. We have no more information as to what will happen with the hackers or the money but, be aware, it may happen again.

13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air with Arm processors would ship late in 2020

Apple has made a lot of buzz ever since they announced their new ARM-Based Macs with Apple Silicon. A new DigiTimes report claims that Apple will be releasing a new 13in MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air by the end of 2020. And, this is no secret as we’ve been covering before but, this new report gives us more details on production. According to the report, Taiwan supply chain will begin shipping Backlit units and other components for these Macs in Q3 of this year, which means any time between now and September. Total shipments for these Macs are also expected to grow this year and to be between 16-17M units when compared to last year’s 14.5-15.5M. This is a little earlier than Ming Chi Kuo said a couple of weeks ago. Speaking of Kuo, another prediction in the report also aligns with one of his, where he said we might get a new 10.8in iPad with a “higher-performance” chip in the latter half of this year. We don’t know if this will be a bigger iPad or we’re just getting smaller bezels with the A12 chip inside. We’ll keep you updated.

Story of the day:

Privacy Screen could allow only an Apple Glass user to view content on an iPhone’s display

And finally the hottest news today have to do again with Apple. So do any of you have any guesses why the company wants to push AR so much and also bring us Apple Glass? Well let’s just say it seems to be a privacy feature, and we see how the company is doubling down with iOS 14 as it let’s you know when an app is using your camera or your microphone and helping you protect your gallery. Cupertino just filed a new patent application called “Privacy Screen”. Basically, the way this would work is by using AR and the Apple Glasses to make it look like there is a normal display on your device but, to other people your screen will look completely blank. Now, this is obviously in development and the patent does mention that it decreases battery life because it sometimes pushes the brightness to compensate. There’s different ways to doing this but, the chief method is by using the AR glasses. This system would also work for other features like, displaying information to read with the AR system showing your controls somewhere on the screen. It would help get rid of those polarized screen protectors and give you more privacy if needed. Privacy Screen could allow only an Apple Glass user to view content on an iPhone’s display

When it comes to viewing content on a screen such as iPhone or iPad, there’s always a concern that someone might be peeping from around the corner, which is why solutions such as a polarized screen exist. As per a patent filed by Apple, the company aims to tackle that privacy issue by relying on AR using the upcoming Apple Glass.

The gist is if you are wearing the Apple Glass, your iPad’s screen is projected on the display of your wearable device, and you can even interact with it using gestures in the same way you would while using the iPhone or iPad on its own. However, the iPhone or iPad you’re using with the ‘Privacy Screen’ feature enabled via your Apple Glass will appear like a blank slate to others.

Here’s how Apple’s patent application filed before the US PTO and titled Privacy Screen describes the feature:

“In some embodiments, a method includes: at a first device coupled with a first display and an image sensor: receiving output data from a second device having a second display different from the first display, where the output data represents content displayable by the second device on the second display; determining, using the image sensor, a position of the second display relative to the first device; and causing the first display to display content based on the output data received from the second device and the determined position of the second display relative to the first device.”

But this is just a patent application and multiple embodiment or variations of how it can be implemented are described, so the final execution might differ.

Massive Apple Glass leak reveals $499 price, early design, LiDAR sensor, and more

Apple Glass (yes, that’s the name of Apple’s highly anticipated AR glasses) is coming sooner than expected, but the final product may not look as futuristic as the hundreds of concepts floating around on the internet. But there are still a few tricks that will attract buyers and might make the Apple Glass yet another groundbreaking product from the company.

The massive leak comes courtesy of serial Apple leakster Jon Prosser of the FrontPageTech fame, who has so far had a solid track record. Prosser notes that the Apple Glass might be unveiled in Q4 2020 or Q1 2021, and that Apple wants ‘physical’ media presence to unveil it as a ‘one more thing’ announcement.

Prosser claims all processing will happen on the iPhone linked to the Apple Glass, which not only cuts the cost, but also keeps them from becoming too bulky and looking weird. There will be a display in both the lenses and the UI is internally being called “Starboard.”

Users will be able to control the UI elements through gestures in front of the glasses that will be recognized with the help of a LiDAR sensor mounted on the right temple. The Apple Glass will also be able to scan custom Apple QR codes that were recently spotted in leaked iOS 14 files. Plus, the Apple Glass will also support wireless charging.

Prosser claims that from what he has seen in an early prototype video, the Apple Glass will look like a generic set of glasses with a plastic frame. But since it was a prototype, Apple might go with a more premium metal frame on the final product. But the most surprising part will be the price, which is set at $499 plus the cost of a prescription.

Yes, you can fit prescription lenses on the Apple Glass. And no, you won’t be able to customize them to look like sunglasses because there are some technical issues with displaying information on tinted glass.

Insiders claim Apple smart glasses don’t have a clear target yet, could end up tethered to iPhones

You probably shouldn't expect AR-powered Apple smart glasses to launch anytime soon, as "different kinds of prototypes" are still being tested.

Unfazed by the Google Glass flop, Apple is reportedly considering its own AR smart glasses

With tablets pretty much hanging by a thread nowadays, traditional PCs stagnating after a free fall from mainstream popularity, smartphones heading for their first ever decline, and smartwatches still seeking that compelling use case, Apple is left wondering what the industry’s “next big thing” might be.

Self-driving cars? Autonomous virtual reality headsets? How about AR-based smart glasses? That latter concept is reportedly worth a revisit and second R&D try following Google’s monumental failure of getting it off the ground, sealed just last year.

Google Glass, or Project Glass, was very enthusiastically received by “explorers” back in 2013, but privacy and safety concerns, not to mention battery life shortcomings and, well, a decidedly douchey design ultimately killed the oh-so-full-of-promise wearable initiative.

Since then, many tech veterans and big fishes showed interest in VR hardware and software rather than AR, including El Goog, Samsung, HTC, Sony and Facebook. Not Microsoft though, which remains invested in mixed reality HoloLens gear powered by the Windows Holographic platform, while Apple is likely still in the early stages of any sort of development in this field.

Don’t expect an advanced Apple Glass prototype to be outed before 2018 therefore, and like other projects in Cupertino “exploration” and careful consideration, a pivot, pause or altogether cancellation are always possible.

As for what the product may do if it ever materializes, all we know is it would probably “connect wirelessly to iPhones, show images and other information in the wearer’s field of vision”, as well as “use augmented reality” technology… somehow. That’s certainly vague but also arguably intriguing.
