Sony’s PlayStation 5 starts at $399.99 and is releasing on November 12

Of course, earlier we had some announcements from Xbox as we were getting a pretty major Playstation Showcase. Yes, the company just announced that the regular PS5 will cost $499, and the Digital Edition will cost $399, retaining the PS4’s original price tag. They will be available on November 12th, with pre-orders being available on September 17th on “select retailers”. Oh, and by the way that November 12th date applies to the US, Japan, Mexico, Australia and a few more countries, the rest of the world will have to wait an extra week. We also got a lot of interesting trailers and announcements like the PlayStation Plus Collection which is a subscription that let’s subscribers play a range of PS4 games on their Ps5. We also got trailers for a new God of War, a new Final Fantasy, Spiderman and more. We’ll let you know if we get any more announcements before November, as competition will most likely get intense.

Facebook’s new Oculus Quest 2 VR headset is sharper, faster and also cheaper at $299

Keeping up with the official news, Facebook had their Connect Event today and we got the Oculus Quest 2. This new VR headset is smaller and 10% lighter than the original Quest, it’s also sharper, with a resolution of 1832 x 1920 pixels per eye, meaning a 50% increase over its predecessor. Some of the specs include the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2, 6GB of RAM and it offers 90Hz refresh rate support across their Home Environment, and Oculus TV sections. Facebook will be shipping this product with new Touch Controllers which offer better ergonomics and more efficient controller tracking to preserve battery, lasting 4x longer than the previous one. It’s priced at $299 which is cheaper than it’s predecessor and it’s currently available for pre-orders with shipments starting on October 13th. Now tell me, do any of you actually care about VR, cause this really reminds me the old days of 3D on everything.

New Huawei Mate 40 series may launch until 2021

There was some interesting things that we weren’t able to cover yesterday due to the Apple Event. We usually expect Huawei to announce their new Kirin chip at IFA, followed by the release of the Mate 40 flagship. Well, we all know how this year is going so we thought we could get them at HDC but that obviously didn’t happen. A couple of days ago Evan Blass tweeted out that if you’re waiting on the Mate 40 Series, you won’t be able to get your hands on it until next year. After that Ross Young said that the Huawei Mate X’s official successor was set to launch this year but due to difficulties with the hardware sourcing, the release will be postponed until 2021. Now, the reasoning behind this isn’t 100% clear yet but, we know that the company was cut off from TSMC yesterday and starting today they wouldn’t be able to get OLED displays from Samsung and LG. They have reportedly stocked up on chips from TSMC and they’ll be using BOE Display, but this could have delayed production significantly and they’re still trying to figure out their next move. Let’s just say that this whole mess is quite epic, but we’ll keep you posted on how it evolves.

Here’s your first look at Apple’s upcoming AirPods Studio wireless headphones

One of the things we’ve been expecting from Apple are the AirPods Studio. It’s also one of those things we were expecting in yesterday’s event, and nothing happened. We knew that we wouldn’t be getting those at yesterday’s Event but they have been in the rumor mill for a long time. Well, now we have some renders from Jon Prosser and Concept Creator, which were reportedly made based on a video of the actual product. They bring a pretty sleek and minimalistic metal and leather design. According to a tweet from Prosser, they’re codenamed B515 and they’ll bring Magnetic Ear Cups, Reversible detection like the AirPods which means you can put them on any way you want and the Audio will adjust to your ears, no headphone jack and a USB C port. Since we didn’t get them yesterday, we’re expecting to get them at Apple’s iPhone 12 Event. There’s still no word on the price tag or if it will bring Active Noise Cancelation. It doesn’t seem like they will given how they won’t cover your ears entirely, but who know’s. We’ll see how it goes.

Story of the day:

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra to have significant camera changes

And finally, for the hottest news today, let’s discuss the future of the Samsung Galaxy lineup. With both the S20 and the Note 20 released this year, it’s already time to discuss the S21? According to some Korean industry sources, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will bring a quad camera setup, similar to the one on the S20 Ultra but with a pretty interesting change, it’ll bring two telephotos, just like the Huawei P40 Pro Plus. According to the report this device will use a standard 3x lens and a periscope module to offer more than 5x magnification. The other lenses include the 108MP main lens and another 12MP ultra wide shooter. Oh, and apparently we’ll also get a 40MP selfie shooter m. The report also mentions that the rest of the S20 line won’t offer major photography improvements when compared to the Ultra, and we still won’t be getting a ToF sensor. Moving on to a different report, but sticking to the S20, Galaxy Club just leaked the model number of the battery and the capacity, apparently it’ll be a 5,000 mAh power pack. We’re also expecting it to bring 5nm processors from both Qualcomm and Samsung so, battery life should get a pretty big boost. We’re still months away from the S21 but, this is already getting interesting as, Samsung apparently changed the line’s codename to Palette, and remember that some of the rumors include this line bringing an S Pen. If the Note 20 Ultra is any indication, I think this is something to actually look forward to.

Sony’s Xperia 5 II appears in leaked render, shows off familiar design with a tall display

It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a global flagship from Sony but, it looks like the company is back at it. We have a new high resolution render from Evan Blass of the Sony Xperia 5 II. This naming scheme hints that this might be a minor upgrade of the Xperia 5 which launched last year, right about this time at IFA. It’ll retain Sony’s 21:9 aspect ratio with the thin side bezels, and the even top and bottom bezels which aren’t too slim. It also brings a triple camera setup at the back with the same “ZEISS T” branding. This is a teal color variant but, sadly we don’t have any details on the internals or a possible launch date just yet so we’ll have to keep you posted on that one.

New LG Wing with rotating dual screen has been caught on video

We know that LG has been reluctant to adopt foldables when most of the competition is at least testing the waters with this market, and by the way, this is the company with the roll able TV. Instead we’ve been getting dual screen devices like my personal favorite, the Velvet. However, we do know that they are working on a rotating screen device codenamed “Wing“. Well, Android Authority recently published a 10 second clip of the phone fully working on someone’s car. On the video you can see him getting map directions on the primary display while controlling the music with the secondary screen. After that, the driver also takes a phone call on the secondary display. Something interesting here is that there seems to be no notch or punch hole on the display. This device is most likely targeted at people who want a multi-tasking device so it might be a good balance between phones like the Z Fold 2 and the Surface Duo.

Samsung is reportedly working on three new foldable devices already

We’re still waiting for the official launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 but, now we get even more rumors of Samsung’s roadmap for their foldables. According to a tipster on Twitter, Samsung will be launching at least three new foldables. The list starts with the Galaxy Z Fold Lite which will apparently bring a CPI display instead of the UTG which we get on the newer variants. Next up, we got the Galaxy Z Fold 3 which we talked about yesterday and this one will apparently bring S Pen features and, this tipster mentions it as well and according to him, it might bring a hefty price tag. Finally, there’s a Z Fold S which will apparently be a new form factor that folds both in and out. We don’t exactly know when we’ll be getting these device but, if Samsung does get rid of the Note line with the S21, this could be Samsung’s fall line-up.

Fortnite on Apple devices is losing cross-play support with the new season on August 27

Epic Games confirms Fortnite’s next season won’t come to iPhones, iPads, and Macs

Let’s get back to the Epic vs Apple drama because, it’s getting really interesting now. Epic released a blog post today where they said that “Apple is blocking Fortnite updates and new installs on the App Store, and has said they will terminate our ability to develop Fortnite for Apple devices. As a result, Fortnite’s new Chapter 2, Season 4 will not be released on iOS and Macs tomorrow“. This means that if you have Fortnite on your iPad, iPhone or Mac, you’ll technically still be able to play but, here’s where it gets interesting. Epic also announced that there will no longer be cross-play between Apple devices and PCs, Consoles and Android phones as, there will be two separate versions of the game. One for iOS and Macs, with the older season and no updates, and one for the rest of the community with the latest and greatest. This is kind of a weird development considering that to play on the Mac, you download it through the Epic installer and not the App Store. Again, Apple is still ready to welcome Epic back, once they remove their in-app payment option but, it looks like Epic wants to take a separate route. There’s also a hearing happening in a month so, we’ll see how this ends.

Story of the day:

Here’s your first hands-on video of the iPhone 12 Pro Max

And finally the most interesting news have to do with iPhone 12 Pro, or at least one of the variants, and the idea of 120hz on the display. If you remember, yesterday we did cover the different screenshots with the camera settings and the 120Hz display. And sure we know some of you might not necessarily believe a screenshot given how easy it is to tinker with them. Well right after, Jon Prosser owned his leaks by later posting a full hands on video with the phone showing off other details. Also, keep in mind that this is a Production Validating and Testing unit of the iPhone 12 Pro Max so, these features might still not make it to the final product. On it we get to see the person turn on the high refresh rate and the adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, he also browsed through the camera options that we covered yesterday and we also get to see some design changes. If you look closely, the display is kinda larger, taller and the bezels are getting thinner, which makes it seem like the notch is smaller but, it really isn’t. Prosser also mentioned other changes, including that the camera array is now 10% larger, the glass is flat but it’ll have a slight curve and that Face ID will now work from more angles like the iPad Pro can, even if the phone is laying on a flat surface. So yeah, there is a working prototype of the 120Hz iPhone 12 Pro, let’s just hope it makes it to the final unit.

Google discontinues the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL merely 9 months after launch

Google has discontinued its Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL flagships merely 9 months after their launch. Unveiled in October last year, the Pixel 4 pair is now out of stock on the Google Store in the US, shortly after the company announced that its successor – the Pixel 5 – will debut in the fall season.

“Google Store has sold through its inventory and completed sales of Pixel 4|4XL. For people who are still interested in buying Pixel 4|4XL, the product is available from some partners while supplies last. Just like all Pixel devices, Pixel 4 will continue to get software and security updates for at least 3 years from when the device first became available on the Google Store in the US,” a Google spokesperson was quoted as saying by 9to5Google

The international Google Store listings still show that some Pixel 4 stock is there in the inventory and third-party retailers might also have a few units left, but that is expected to deplete soon and won’t be replenished. However, it is surprising to see Google discontinuing a phone whose successor is still months away from launch.
