Glass class of 2017: all-glass LG G6 rumored, headphone jack stays in

It’s already enough that Samsung, the world’s biggest smartphone manufacturer, already plasters panes of glass together for its smartphones. Apple might demand a design that will see at least one of its iPhone 8 models look like Samsung’s. Now, we have to talk about LG.

Yes, even the LG G6 will be going all-glass for its chassis, a source tells Android Police‘s managing editor, David Ruddock.

In a tweet, Ruddock also affirms prior chatter that the battery will be embedded into the device — a step away from LG G-series protocol — and with it, the Friends modular accessories system. Amazingly, the headphone jack will be staying put. At least that sets the phone apart from the iPhone 7 and, we now believe, the Galaxy S8.

Mulling other rumors, we also may expect an iris-scanning selfie camera, MST mobile payments a la Samsung Pay and some level of waterproofing.

KGI: all glass bodies, all OLED screens, all iPhone 8 models

Inductive wireless charging is one of the latest features to be pegged to the next iPhone, but KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo wasn’t envisioning some of these features to be universal across all three models — the regular model, a Plus size and a pricier technological showboat at a special in-between size.

However, perhaps some of these features that may have been intended only for the new model may come to the other ones, according to a new KGI report. That model remains in existence with a curved OLED display, completely wireless charging and a glass body. But the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 8 devices may also get flat OLED panels, completely wireless charging and a glass body, too.

How Apple will muster enough components to make a big splash for its decennial iPhone is unknown, but if it wants to live up to analysts’ expectations, it’s going to have to: KGI expects 150 million iPhone 8 shipments for the next holiday quarter, blowing iPhone 6 numbers far out of the water.

Supply issues have plagued the company this year in delivering iPhone 7 units to its customers and may be constraining sales potential, so it’ll be interesting if Infinite Loop can overcome these problems in a year’s time.

The report is not specifically attributed to Ming-chi Kuo and is interpreted by Redmond Pie.

Will it be the OnePlus 4 or the OnePlus 5?

The OnePlus 3T is due out on Tuesday with a slight change in specifications and, perhaps, price from the OnePlus 3. The question for the road ahead: will OnePlus deign to iterate early next year or wait with bated breath to grab hold of top-notch components for a little less?

Tech cognoscenti on Chinese microblogging site Weibo are talking about potential specs and design of what could be the OnePlus 4 or, if Asian superstition about the deathly number “4” is to be avoided, the OnePlus 5. Perhaps both will be found in some way next year and this could just be the start of a new release cycle for the company — a main model and a bump-up follow-up shortly after.

Specs could include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 or an iterative “835” with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Two cameras would be on the rear for some sort of augmented or mixed reality use. A glass encasement would hold in the 4,000mAh battery and the rest of it all, including the 5.3-inch quad HD AMOLED screeen.

Keep in mind that OnePlus’s announcements usually come in late spring or early summer and usually pose as a reaction to the traditional OEMs’ flagship launches — that is to say there is road to cover yet.

Three iPhone 8 models expected for next year

What can we continue to expect for the iPhone 7s or iPhone 8 for 2017? Apparently, something resembling a glass pod with a little strip of stainless steel to hold it all together. Or, rather, two of them, each a different size.According to the Nikkei Asian Review, though, in addition to the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models, Apple may introduce a 5-inch model of the iPhone 8 next year.“Apple has tentatively decided that all the 5.5-inch, 5-inch and 4.7-inch models will have glass ...

Another Apple patent, another step to a Home Button-less iPhone 8

It looks more likely that the next iPhone will have a full-facial display as Apple has applied to patent a capacitive fingerprint sensor that can be coupled to the display layer, thus enabling Touch ID to be used on most, if not all parts of the screen. The key seems to be attaining a usable fingerprint image from the sensing units and how far those units can get from the touch ...

A not-so-much all-glass iPhone 8, as sold by KGI
