Lumia Black update hitting unlocked Nokia Lumia 920 phones

Over the weekend the Lumia Black update started hitting unlocked Lumia 1020 devices across the world; the update was first pushed out to American variants of the phone, after its introduction on the Lumia 1520 phablet, with which it shipped out of the box. We’re seeing and hearing several reports that unlocked Nokia Lumia 920 phones are also getting the Lumia Black package, which consists of Windows Phone 8 GDR3, with Nokia’s own Black suite on top of it. Among the things included, worthy of mentioning are: the ability to group apps into folders (requires AppFolder app), ...

Nokia Lumia Black update starts international distrubition

Nokia’s offered its users plenty of reasons to look forward to its new Lumia Black software update. Indeed, the problem hasn’t been a lack of features, but simply getting your hands on the software; the Lumia 1520 runs Black out of the box, and we saw AT&T start delivering Black to Lumia 1020 owners in the States, but what of international users, not to mention ...

Lumia 1020 on AT&T now getting Lumia Black update (and RAW support)

Remember a month ago when we told you about the RAW photo support coming to Nokia Lumia phones? An update to Nokia Camera delivered compatibility with Digital Negative files, but there was a hitch: the handset needed the new Nokia Lumia Black update to function. That wasn’t an issue for the 1520, but the 1020, with its 41-megapxiel PureView sensor just aching to snap some RAW shots, still hadn’t seen Lumia Black become available. Thankfully, that’s now ...

Nokia Lumia 1520 discounted at AT&T

At the beginning of the month, both Microsoft and AT&T have started taking pre-orders for the Lumia 1520. The price was $199 with a two-year contract (and additional goodies thrown in by Microsoft and the carrier) but it appears that AT&T has dropped another $100 from its price. If you follow the source link below to the phone’s page on the carrier’s website you’ll see the Lumia 1520 being listed as available for pre-order at $99.99, with the two-year agreement. The $100 ...

New Lumia 920 GDR3 pic shows the release that never was: extra tiles intact

In the weeks that led up to the formal launch of Windows Phone 8 GDR3, we thought we had a pretty good handle on what to expect. We knew that a denser start screen was coming in order to address the arrival of high-res phablets like the 1080p Lumia 1520, but leaks of the update running on existing hardware sure seemed to suggest that the same third column of Live Tiles would be available as an option on smaller screens. Suffice it to say, that didn’t actually happen, and eventually

Nokia Lumia 1520 pre-orders live again from Microsoft and AT&T

OK, here’s a little history about the Nokia Lumia 1520 pre-orders in the US: first there was a pre-order page on the Microsoft Store, then it was taken down because it wasn’t supposed to go live at all at that moment. Now we’ve got a pre-order again. Here’s hoping this time it’s here to stay.

Microsoft backtracks on Nokia Lumia 1520 pre-orders

Remember we told you yesterday that the Nokia Lumia 1520 for AT&T can be pre-ordered from the Microsoft Store? Well, forget it! According to a recent report, the page went live prematurely and Microsoft has since yanked it; it lived about 12 hours. However, all pre-orders for the phone itself, as well as cover accessories, placed within that window will be honored, according to Microsoft, at the time the phone will become available. Meanwhile AT&T and Nokia both confirmed that the Lumia ...

Windows Phone 8 GDR3 reportedly allows phones to recharge while turned off

You can charge your Android device while having it turned off but Windows Phones, pretty much like iPhones, will boot up immediately when plugged in for a charge while being turned off. The HTC 8X, both the global and the AT&T carrier flavor, has started receiving its GDR3 update, and apparently the refresh solves this issue (feature?). WPCentral reports that once the HTC 8X as the latest firmware, powering it off and plugging it in for a charge triggers a vibration, followed by the HTC logo, a battery icon, but no boot into the operating system. This could be useful for those who ...

Verizon Nokia Lumia 929 caught on camera, expected around Thanksgiving

Despite the leaked render of the Verizon Nokia Lumia 929 from the beginning of October, the phone was nowhere to be seen at last week’s Nokia World in Abu Dhabi. Still, it is believed to be, at the moment, a variant of some sort for the Lumia 1520 which was unveiled in the United Arab Emirates. The picture above, and the video embedded below, claim to feature the upcoming phone. As a Lumia 1520 variant, it will retain the Full HD resolution screen — though in a slightly smaller form factor — the ...
