Samsung launches Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Gear smartwatch, new Galaxy Note 10.1

Samsung and Sony are throwing today’s big IFA press events, and while Sony’s conference had a bit of the air let out on it thanks to full details on the Xperia Z1 and Cyber-shot QX-series cameras leaking, Samsung still has some surprises up its sleeve. For all we’ve seen of Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear leaks, there have still been a whole lot of unknowns, but that’s exactly why we came to Berlin in the first place: to get answers about new hardware. Sure enough, Samsung got things underway with CEO JK Shin introducing the Galaxy Note 3. He started getting into ...

Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Gear and Note 10.1 first impressions – Editorial Roundtable

It’s finally that time of year for the city of Berlin to take over the world of Mobile Technology through their yearly IFA event. In the past, it was just another event where we had no clear expectations, but in the last two years, it’s been about Samsung, and more specifically about their new iterations of the Galaxy Note smartphones. The Samsung Unpacked event happens tomorrow at 1PM Eastern, and aside from all the hands-on coverage that both Michael and Anton will get us from the show floor, we’ll also cover the event live through our usual Editorial Roundtable. We ...

We’re live from IFA 2013 in Berlin

IFA 2013 may not officially start for another day or two, but the smartphone companies are already on-site in Berlin, getting started early with their own product announcements. We’ve already seen Sony go public with the Xperia Z1 and its new QX camera accessories, but that’s only the beginning. We’re following that up with coverage of the Samsung Unpacked event real ...

Sony announces Xperia Z1, Cyber-shot QX-series lens-style cameras

Sony’s getting us started with the big IFA events this week, taking its latest lineup of products to Berlin to share with us all. While we came to IFA to get the smartphone news, Sony’s products cover a much wider swath. The company began today talking about things like new 4K displays, digital cameras, and camcorders, but even there we got some smartphone-related news. One thing we’ve talked about for a while is the need for Sony to better promote integration between all its device families, and it looks like it’s attempting to do just that with its One-touch ...

Asus Fonepad 7 teased with dual front speakers, possibly for IFA

The first-generation Asus Fonepad was one of those devices that you didn’t find logic for, unless you felt the desire to use your 7-inch tablet for phone calls, and yeah, our own Anton D. Nagy is one of those people that enjoyed it. Still, once we figured-out the fact that this product was based-off the Google Nexus 7 in design and most specifications, and it was clear that it shouldn’t be a product to just ignore. Asus is now teasing their second-generation product, now dubbed the Fonepad 7, less than a year ...

Sony leaks continue: full details on Cyber-shot QX100 and QX10 lens-style cameras

Sony is not doing a great job keeping a lid on its IFA announcements for tomorrow. We just saw the full press release leak for the Xperia Z1, and now the very same has happened for those lens camera accessories we were also expecting to see Sony announce, complete with a bunch of hardware specs, pics, and video. So, what are we actually going to call these guys? Sure Shot was thrown around as a possibility, but when we didn’t see it in that Z1 ...

Sony Xperia Z1 (Honami) press release leaks in advance of tomorrow’s launch

Sony’s big IFA event takes place tomorrow, and with the teasers the company’s been publishing, there’s been little doubt that it would launch the phone we’ve been following as codename Honami. While there’s still plenty to look forward to from tomorrow’s event, including the details on those Smart Short lens camera accessories, the cat may already be out of the bag when it comes to Honami, as the official Sony press release announcing the phone ...

That’s right, it’s about that time for IFA 2013 to happen, and you can bet we’ll be covering every inch of the show floor in Berlin. This has historically been the event for phablets, and a couple of other surprises. Whether it’s LG, HTC, Sony or Samsung, there is a lot to expect from this event in both old and new categories. Gadgets galore: what we’re bringing to IFA 2013 in Berlin

Psst. Want some behind-the-scenes info before you read this behind-the-scenes article? If that’s not too meta for you, peep this: we were recently forced to rename an episode of the Pocketnow Weekly podcast, less than an hour after publishing it. The reason? The same reason which drives most action on the internet, of course: “moar clicks.” You see, episode 059 of the Weekly was our IFA teaser episode, the podcast where we sat around and talked about what we expected to see at this year’s ...

Galaxy Note III launching with 2.5GB RAM?

Is the fabled 3GB RAM smartphone destined to remain a dream? For all the talk the idea gets, we really haven’t seen anything come of it. There was the theory that the LG G2 might usher in the era of such memory capacity, but we ultimately saw it go the 2GB route, instead. And there was the Ubuntu Edge, which would have packed a hefty 4GB of memory, but that project has already folded. That’s left the Galaxy Note III as the best contender, and with its launch ...

NVIDIA seven-inch Android tablet pictured in regulatory filing

NVIDIA’s SoCs have powered many a tablet over the years, but the company itself has yet to release such a device under its own name; certainly, with products like Shield, it’s clear that NVIDIA is reconsidering the greater role it wants to play in the hardware market. This summer, rumors have suggested that NVIDIA might be working on a pair of Android tablets. While one may run a next-gen Tegra 5 chip and still be quite a way’s off, we’ve ...

Huge gallery of Sony Smart Shot lens-camera accessory images leaks

Sony’s add-on “lens camera” accessories for smartphones, which may launch under the name Smart Shot, are easily some of the more head-scratching developments to surface in the weeks leading up to this year’s IFA. We’ve come a long way in our understanding of this hardware, but it’s just so unlike anything we’ve seen before that we’re likely to find ourselves inundated with questions even after Sony finally makes the products official. Over the weekend, we looked at a new white variant ...

Acer launches 10.1-inch Iconia A3 tablet, 6-inch Liquid S2 phone with 4K video recording

This week’s already getting off to a fast start, with a number of early announcements of hardware intended for exhibition at this year’s IFA in Berlin. Right now we have a couple new entries from Acer, drawing the curtain back on both an Android tablet and a new Android smartphone. The tablet is Acer’s 10.1-inch Iconia A3. It has a 1280 x 800 resolution, runs a quad-core 1.2GHz A7-based SoC (no word on which, though), and has a five-megapixel main camera. The A3′s available in either 16GB or 32GB configurations, both ...

Samsung Galaxy Gear prototype pictures leaked

There are two more days to wait until Samsung’s special pre-IFA Berlin event; the world is excited to hear about the next-generation Galaxy Note phablet, but Samsung also confirmed its plans to show off a smartwatch, named Samsung Galaxy Gear. A prototype of said gadget has been recently leaked, in the images above and below. We’re looking at one of the prototypes “sent to developers and a few select partners”, according to Venture Beat, who also inserted a disclaimer (a well known fact by now): Samsung products have been known, in the past, to differ from ...
