OnePlus could take the budget route with a Snapdragon 460-powered Nord phone

OnePlus has primarily focused on selling flagship smartphones. The brand entered the mid-range market with its OnePlus X back in 2015, but the phone was soon discontinued in 2016. This year, it took the leap again and launched a non-flagship phone, OnePlus Nord. While rumors claim that it could soon launch a Snapdragon 6-series powered Nord device, the latest rumor tips that OnePlus could enter the budget smartphone segment.

A reliable tipster who goes by the @the_tech_guy Twitter handle posted screenshots of OnePlus proprietary source code. It mentions the different processors that power their devices. According to the snapshot, an OnePlus device featuring the Snapdragon 460 SoC could be on the way. The chipset is mentioned with the SM450 model number.

Moreover, the list includes processors such as Snapdragon 865, Snapdragon 855, and Snapdragon 765G. While phones with these chipsets have already been launched, a Snapdragon 460 device could be launched soon under the Nord branding.

OnePlus Nord might soon get a new color option called Ash Grey

OnePlus Nord has received a warm reception since its debut, primarily thanks to its appealing design, capable hardware, and more importantly, its affordable price tag. Currently, the phone is only available in two colors – Blue Marble and Onyx Black – but it appears that a third color option might be on its way.

Noted leakster Roland Quandt mentioned in a tweet that OnePlus Nord will soon get a new color option called “Grey Ash”, and that it will hit the shelves at the beginning of October. Shedding more light on the fresh leak, another tipster – Max J. – mentioned that the Grey Ash variant of the OnePlus mid-ranger will flaunt a matte finish.

Unfortunately, we are yet to come across any leaked images that can give us a glimpse of how the upcoming Grey Ash colorway actually looks. Also, it is unclear whether OnePlus will sell this particular variant globally, or if it will be confined to a select few markets.

OnePlus Nord gets camera improvements with OxygenOS 10.5.4 update

OnePlus Nord is receiving a new update. The OxygenOS 10.5.4 update brings improvements to low-light selfies and macro camera photos. Like other updates, it is being rolled out in a phased manner. The update should reach all OnePlus Nord users in a few days.

According to the changelog, the OxygenOS 10.5.4 update brings camera improvements to OnePlus Nord. Further, the camera quality for video calls has been improved as well. Plus, color accuracy and white balance have also been improved for low light selfies that theoretically will result in better selfies in darker environments.

Coming to the macro camera, the company has improved vibrancy and color accuracy that is expected to improve its overall performance. The launch speed of the Gallery app has been improved too. Moreover, an issue that caused background music to pause when opening the front camera has been fixed as well.

Apple’s Q2 numbers show strong iPhone sales in the Chinese market

Let’s talk about sales for a second. We know that Apple was struggling back in February as they reportedly only selling 500k iPhones in China for that month. Now, according to some CINNO research, Apple saw a 225% growth from April-June which resulted in a 13M iPhones shipped during this period. Since then, the iPhone 11 and the new iPhone SE were apparently driving many of the sales, which lead to a 62% growth year-over-year. These numbers aren’t exactly clear but another research note also puts Apple in the second place in terms of growth, with the leader being Huawei.

Future Apple AirPods could feature bone conduction for improved audio

We’ve been talking about a lot of Apple patents as of late and now, we have a new one that sheds some light as to what AirPods might do in the future. According to this patent, Cupertino is working on bone conduction technology with normal air-based sound transmission. To put it in a simple way, it would allow them to send audio through two general areas and, since there is nothing really going into your ear canal, you have better awareness of your environment if you want to hear it. However, we know that Apple is notorious for patents and this may not happen soon but it would be nice to see.

Samsung is considering to drop Bixby & Galaxy Apps Store as Google offers new mobile apps deal

Alright, now let’s talk Samsung cause we have some possible major news, which we are hoping do happen. For those of you Samsung users that like to disable the Bixby button, we have some good news for you. Samsung is apparently in talks with Google for a deal that would make Samsung push the Google Assistant and get rid of Bixby. This also means that Samsung would stop pushing their Galaxy Apps Store. The two companies are apparently discussing the financial terms and according to Bloomberg, Samsung stated that “they are closely working with Google and other partners to give you the best customer experience”. Google also stated that they won’t be doing the same with other partners. Does this mean you can partner again for a new Samsung Galaxy Nexus? Or Google Play Edition Note 20? Guys can you imagine?

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live flaunt their wingtips for the first time in leaked renders

Here’s your first detailed look at the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 live image spotted online ahead of launch

Let’s move on to your daily dose of the unhealthy amount of Samsung leaks we have and, they come from trusted sources. Let’s start it off with the Galaxy Buds Live. We have some new renders from Twitter, showing off the Buds in their Black and Bronze color variants and, if you hadn’t seen these before…. These pictures show them from every possible angle, they even show some wing tips that we hadn’t seen which will prevent them from falling off your ear. Moving on to the Z Fold 2, we have a hands on IRL picture which shows the phone booting up but, we can’t really see anything else other than the name. Luckily, the source from the Buds pics posted other renders of the Z Fold 2 as well, showing off the new design. The outer display looks way better than the original Fold, and the camera array looks pretty much like the one we’re expecting from the Note. Other leaks also suggest that we might get a very expensive Thom Browne edition of the Z fold 2 which will retail for around $2800, yeah you heard that right.

OnePlus Nord-series smartphone is coming to the US later this year, reveals Carl Pei

OnePlus’ next Nord-series smartphone might use Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 690 SoC

And finally the hottest news today have to do with the OnePlus Nord. Actually let’s start calling it the Nord lineup, because we’ve got two separate news that indicate so, one pretty much official. We thought that you would only be able to get the OnePlus Nord in North America through that trial thing were only 50 fans would get it but, apparently that won’t be the case, sort of. Carl Pei just went on an interview and said that the Nord won’t be available in the US once it goes on sale on August 4th but, he said that a Nord-branded phone is set to land on US shores later this year so “you don’t have to feel left out for too long”. As a matter of fact, in one of their Nord promo videos they mentioned the term “OnePlus Series” possibly hinting that the Nord isn’t the only device and, they even have a dedicated “Nord Series” page in their website. On the second report that’s most likely unrelated, it seems that there’s also another, less expensive Nord in the works. XDA also discovered in the latest Oxygen OS update a new OnePlus phone that would use the Qualcomm 690 SoC which is their latest 5G budget solution. Apparently the internal code name is Billie and we don’t have any other information just yet.

OnePlus’ next Nord-series smartphone might use Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 690 SoC

Just a day ago, we came to know that OnePlus is planning to launch a new Nord-series smartphone in the US market later this year. The folks over at XDA-Developers dug into the OxygenOS 10.5 build for OnePlus Nord and found evidence of a new OnePlus smartphone that might use Qualcomm’s latest budget 5G platform – the Snapdragon 690.

The OxygenOS code references an unannounced OnePlus device codenamed “Billie” alongside the model numbers “BE2025”, “BE2026”, “BE2028”, or “BE2029.” The model number falls in the numerical naming strategy for OnePlus Nord and the successive number identifiers for different markets. Those particular model numbers are associated with the term “SM6350”, which turns out to be the part number for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 5G SoC.

The code also suggests that there might two variations of the upcoming OnePlus device with the internal name “Billie.” While details remain scarce, it appears that the upcoming OnePlus Nord-series smartphone might be more affordable, given the hierarchical positioning of the Snapdragon 690 SoC below the Snapdragon 765G silicon that powers the OnePlus Nord.

OnePlus Nord-series smartphone is coming to the US later this year, reveals Carl Pei

OnePlus launched its latest mid-range smartphone – the OnePlus Nord – earlier this month, but the phone is currently up for pre-orders only in Asia and Europe, and will hit the US market in a very limited, sort of experimental capacity. However, it appears that fans in the US won’t be left unattended, as OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has assured that a OnePlus Nord-branded phone is coming to the American stores later this year.

“First things first—the OnePlus Nord won’t be available in the US when it goes on sale starting August 4. Pei tells me a Nord-branded phone (not necessarily the same as this) is set to land on US shores later this year, so you don’t have to feel left out for too long”, Julian Chokkattu from WIRED mentioned in his review of the OnePlus Nord.

In one of the promotional videos for the OnePlus Nord, the company mentioned the term ‘OnePlus series’, which hinted that more Nord-branded smartphones might be in the pipeline. There’s even a dedicated OnePlus Nord Series page on the official OnePlus website. Unfortunately, we don’t have any information on the specifications or pricing of the upcoming OnePlus Nord series smartphone headed to the US market.

OnePlus Nord fizzles the bend test, but the rest of the package is just fine

OnePlus Nord, the company’s highly anticipated mid-ranger is now out and has received acclaim for its overall package that comes at a rather competitive price point. Now, Zack of JerryRigEverything YouTube channel has put the OnePlus Nord through his customary durability test and the phone fared well, except for the bend test.

When put through the stress, the OnePlus Nord’s frame cracked just beneath the volume button, while the inner display on the front also gave up after being pushed a little further. The reason is that the OnePlus Nord’s frame is made of plastic, while the more premium OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro boast of a sturdier metallic frame.

Notably, the rear glass panel and the layer of Gorilla Glass on the front remained intact. The OnePlus also performed well during the scratch test. But do keep in mind that the scratch and bend tests in the video above border on the extreme levels of stress and do not necessarily represent real-life use case scenarios, which means your OnePlus Nord will remain in one piece on a day-to-day basis.

OnePlus Nord could get a “Gray Ash” color option in future

OnePlus Nord was launched last week in two color options, Blue Marble and Gray Onyx. Now, a new rumor has it that the company could be preparing a third color variant of the handset. It is said to be  called “Gray Ash.” The color variant has appeared in the pre-installed Engineering Mode app that is available within OxygenOS custom ROM.

The latest development was reported by XDA Developers as one of its forum members discovered the Gray Ash color version while analyzing the latest version of the Engineering Mode app within OxygenOS. Moreover, this isn’t the first time that we are hearing about the “Gray Ash” color variant.

The unannounced version was shared by tipster Evan Blass in a leaked slide. OnePlus hasn’t confirmed whether the Gray Ash OnePlus Nord will be available across all its existing markets or limited to a certain region.

We start this week with an Apple shopping event and tons of great deals

Deals. Best Buy is currently having an Apple Sale and it’s actually pretty compelling. The only requisite is to be a Best Buy Member which is free and you can get $100 off the iPhone 11, up to $500 off on the XS and the XS Max. $50 off several iPad Models and up to $300 off for the MacBook Pro. The first link in the deals will take you straight to the sale. Amazon and B&H are actually matching some of these deals like in the case of the MacBook Pro which is $300 off, leaving it at $2499 for the 16in variant. The Galaxy A51 is $50 off, leaving that at $280 shipped and, we have more deals on Beats headphones, Mobvoi watches and more in the links in the description.

Google is toying with the idea of a dual-screen Chromebook

We know that Google rarely, and I mean rarely, experiment with Chromebooks but, there’s a possibility that, that might change. According to 9to5Google, new code submissions show that Google might be working on a dual-screen Chromebook. The device is codenamed “Palkia” and the code clearly mentions a second touchscreen on the device. The code also mentions tablet mode so, we aren’t sure if this will be a clamshell form factor with two inner displays kind of like what we get from ASUS, or a flat out foldable with a touchscreen on the inside and one on the outside. However, a developer’s comment suggests that this device is not an OEM device and is only a prototype, so it looks like Google is testing the waters here.

It seems that Apple could be ‘ready to ship’ a new iMac refresh

We have a new vague leak from Twitter for upcoming Apple products. According to the tipster, products are ready to ship, the problem is, he didn’t specify which products. Some of the strong candidates include that re-designed iMac with the new bezels, as Ming Chi Kuo also predicted that Apple would refresh the Intel-based iMac in Q3. We’re also expecting those AirPods Studio, which were supposed to come at WWDC but, we didn’t get any hardware. Another candidate is the AirTags which were leaked by Apple back in April and are designed to compete with Tiles. We could also be getting a new iPad or a new Apple TV but, all we know as of right now is that they’re ready to ship. So yeah Tipster.. How about you be more specific next time.

The 2020 iPhone SE has boosted iPhone sales, and helped users upgrade

It looks like Apple’s plan with the iPhone SE is working. The CIRP just released the numbers for this last quarter and, the iPhone 11 and the Pros still take about 65% of purchases, but the iPhone SE did make a dent. It covered about 19% of sales this past quarter meaning, people are still more likely to go for the newer, higher-specked iPhones but, it is taking sales from the older models. By comparison, last year the XS/XS Max and Xr took the same 65% but, the iPhone 8 and 7 took the rest of the sales, with no iPhone SE to take that extra 19%. According to CIRP’s data, a user with a phone that’s over three years old has a 73% likelihood to upgrade to the SE so, it looks like Apple’s strategy is working just fine.

Here’s your first official look at the upcoming OnePlus Buds in all three colors

OnePlus Nord will feature a 90Hz display and a generous 12GB of RAM

And, we’ve gotten a ton of official leaks from OnePlus, including the Buds. Now, Evan Blass and 9to5Google have recovered some pictures of the Buds from the latest Oxygen OS update. We get to see the Buds in their three different color variants, Black, White and of course, Dave2D teal. The pictures show off the case from the front and back, and we get to see the Buds from behind. We’re able to see the touch controls and, the only time we’ve seen the front is from Evan’s leaks but, they look kinda weird. Moving back to official territory, OnePlus teased that these will bring Noise Cancellation for calls and ta new teaser on Instagram hints to the price tag being lower than $100. They also confirmed that the Nord will bring a 90Hz display. We’ll keep you posted as, the event is tomorrow.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 leaked hands-on video reveals key camera features

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 confirmed to debut alongside Galaxy Note 20 on August 5

Second display on the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will include an essential feature

We have a lot of leaks for Unpacked today so, let’s start with the Z Fold 2. Samsung UK pretty much confirmed that we will be getting this phone at Unpacked with a new teaser that says, “A new look Unfolds“. After that, Ice Universe posted a very blurry press render of the device. It shows off the new camera array which looks pretty similar to the Note, it shows the USB-C port and the speaker grill and, we can’t really see anything else from this image. According to a new Max Weinbach tweet, the Z Fold 2 will be able to use the new 6.23-inch outer display as a viewfinder, so you’ll be able to take selfies with the primary camera, instead of having to use the selfie shooter. And on that Note, pun intended, seems we also have some new leaked camera features. It looks like Pro Video will now allow you to select which microphone you want to use,.. I know, something LG came up with a while ago, but this one is even allowing form Bluetooth or USB, adding more flexibility for streamers or vloggers. It will also be able to record video in 21:9 at up to 8K. Finally, they will also be adding 50x to this phone and to the S20 Ultra as it currently just jumps from 30x to 100x.

Google’s Phone, Duo, and Messages apps will come pre-installed on the OnePlus Nord

As the July 21 launch of OnePlus Nord inches closer, OnePlus has been revealing bits of information regarding its upcoming mid-ranger to keep the hype train going. Today, the official OnePlus Nord account has announced that the OnePlus Nord will come pre-installed with a trio of Google’s own apps that we find on the Pixel smartphones.

The three apps in question are Google Duo for video calling, the Messages app, and the stock Phone app. The aforementioned apps are quite feature-rich and usually get new features from Google at a quicker pace compared to third-party options developed by OEMs – OxygenOS in the case of OnePlus.

As for the specs, OnePlus Nord will feature a 90Hz display and will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC paired with up to 12GB of RAM. You’ll get four cameras at the back (48MP primary + 8MP wide-angle + 5MP depth + macro camera) and two front cameras that include a 32MP main snapper and an 8MP wide-angle camera.

OnePlus Nord will feature a 90Hz display and a generous 12GB of RAM

OnePlus Nord is surely riding a great wave of marketing hype right now, all thanks to teasers and feature drops the company has slowly been revealing ahead of its July 21 launch. Now, the Chinese smartphone maker has announced that the OnePlus Nord will feature a smooth display with a 90Hz refresh rate.

In an official OnePlus forum post, Shawn L. (Head of Product for Nord) also revealed that the highly anticipated OnePlus mid-ranger will come equipped with up to 12GB of RAM. But this will probably be the device’s high-end variant, and we can expect a more affordable version of the OnePlus Nord that packs a lesser amount of RAM.

The generous 12 gigs of RAM inside the OnePlus Nord will be paired alongside Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G SoC. OnePlus has also confirmed that the OnePlus Nord will feature four rear cameras that include a 48MP primary snapper with the Sony IMX586 sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 5MP depth sensor, and a macro camera.

This may be one of the best moments to get a Samsung Galaxy Note 10

Let’s begin today with Deals cause we know you watched our After The Buzz, and yes, there’s no better time to jump on the Galaxy Note 10. Right now it’s currently $220 off for the 256GB of storage variant, leaving it at $730 and it comes with the US Warranty as well. The Galaxy S10 is still $100 off from the other day, leaving it at $650 for the 128GB of storage variant. The latest iPad Mini is $50 off, leaving that at $629 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular, 256GB of storage variant. We have more deals on Sony TVs, DJI Osmo Action Cams and more in the links in the description.

Sprint will be no more on August 2, as it officially turns into T-Mobile

It’s been a minute since we’ve discussed the Sprint and T-Mobile merge, mainly because it’s been a minute since anything major has really changed. Well, yesterday T-Mobile confirmed that as of August 2, Sprint and T-Mobile will be unifying their brands under “The New T-Mobile” name. This deal has been happening for the past few years and it was expected to launch this summer as they laid off hundreds of Sprint employees and disbanded their 5G network. Most of the Sprint retail stores will be rebranded as T-Mobile stores with more announcements happening next week. So yeah T-Mobile.. I’m trying to understand how building a stronger synergy means laying off people, but oh well.

ASUS ROG Phone 3 press render leaked ahead of launch

We’re pretty much 5 days away from the official announcement of the ROG Phone 3 so, the leaks keep flowing. Now, we got some official-looking press renders of the phone from Evan Blass, showing off the entire design which is kinda familiar. At the back we can see the new triple camera setup with the RGB ROG logo. At the front we have a notch-less design with thick top and bottom bezels to house the dual front face firing speakers. We’re expecting this phone to bring a 6.59in AMOLED display running at 120Hz, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+, and a crazy 6000 mAh battery with 30W fast charging. We’ll be back with more information once it launches.

New iPad Air could end up giving us more power, for less

You remember that 10.8-inch iPad we should be getting this year which we talked about yesterday? Well, now we have some more information and it looks like this will be the new iPad Air. According to the report, Apple is going for the iPhone SE strategy by bringing a powerful SoC to an affordable device. It might also adopt some of the Pro features like USB-C and the new Magic Keyboard. This iPad would be priced somewhere around the current Air’s price which starts at $500 and the regular iPad which starts at $330. If you’re looking for an iPad Mini, like me, we should be getting those next year according to Ming Chi Kuo, and he also mentioned that these iPads will ship with 20W chargers. Speaking of iPads, let’s talk about the Apple Pencil for a second. A new patent titled “Computer System with color Sampling stylus” would use several photo detectors in the Apple pencil to allow you to hold the pencil against an object and sample the color for whatever it is you’re using it. We’re not exactly sure if this is possible at the moment but it would be a nice feature, let’s hope Apple makes it work.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 leak reveals flat display and a new color option

Speaking of events and products we’re close to, we have a new leaked 6 second teaser of the Galaxy Buds posted to Twitter. On the video we see one of the buds lift up from the case and then the words, “Keep the Noise Out. Let the Sound In.” appear on the screen hinting to the Active Noise cancellation. We also have another picture showing off the inner side of the buds as well as someone wearing them and we can’t say they look too comfortable. We also have a new CAD render video of the Galaxy Note 20 showing the phone from all angles. We can tell this is the regular Note 20 as, it brings a flat display and triple cameras at the back with no periscope lens. There’s really no surprises here any more so, let’s just get ready for Unpacked.

New OnePlus Buds could feature noise cancelation during calls

OnePlus Nord’s camera hardware officially detailed

And finally the hottest news today have to do with OnePlus. Let’s talk about the OnePlus Nord as today we have some official information. The first one is a OnePlus Buds teaser where they show off how the Buds will bring in-call noise cancellation. The teaser reads “Even if you’re in a noisy environment, your voice will be picked up clearly. No need to shhh”. At the end of the teaser we can see the silhouette of the buds and the color looks pretty similar to the ones Carl Pei was wearing on the WVFRM podcast. Moving on to the actual Nord, the company just revealed the camera specs through their Forums. Let’s start off with the selfie camera, which will get a 32MP main sensor and wide-angle selfie camera with the 105-degree FOV which is allegedly an 8MP sensor. Now, on the back, the main camera will be a Sony IMX586 48MP sensor with OIS, along with an 8MP ultra-wide angle camera, a 5MP depth sensor and my last but not least, my personal favorite, a macro camera. Ugh, I hate it when Diego does this to me on the script.. We’re 4 days away from the event so we’ll keep you posted. New OnePlus Buds could feature noise cancelation during calls

We are just days away from the official launch of the OnePlus Nord and the new OnePlus Buds. However, OnePlus continues to tease its upcoming products, and this last teaser hints an awesome feature.

According to the latest teaser posted by OnePlus on Twitter, the new OnePlus Buds will feature noise-canceling while in a phone call. This will give users a better and clearer calling experience. However, this teaser also suggests that Noise cancelation may not be available while listening to music. We could be mistaken, or maybe OnePlus is trying to give us at least some new details during the presentation of these earbuds next Tuesday.
