New iPhone 5C colors hinted by dummy units

The iPhone 5C, Apple’s low-cost iPhone, is either the company’s worst kept secret, or its biggest bluff to date, judging by the huge amount of leaks we’ve seen in the past. These leaks tried to represent, among other things, the color palette in which the plastic iPhone will purportedly be available. However, the image above, coming from Vietnam, claims to represent the real colors in which the phone will be available. The phones are dummy units but the colors are claimed to be the real deal. We’re ...

Nokia Lumia 1520 pictured, Bandit reportedly spotted in real life

The phablet Nokia is rumored to work on, previously referred to as the Bandit, has received a new model name as of yesterday: Nokia Lumia 1520. Today, we’re allegedly looking at said phablet in a picture reportedly depicting the phone in real life. While we’re not quite sure of the authenticity of this image, it does indeed show a large-screened Windows Phone with the Live Tiles ending two-thirds down (nothing a Windows Phone update couldn’t fix though). Interestingly, there’s an ...

T-Mobile Nokia Lumia 521 Review: Smartphone deal of the year

When you see a smartphone available on the Home Shopping Network for $99, you might think that it would be something horrible that would fall apart after a month or it would be so slow and crashy that it would be unusable… unless it’s a Nokia Windows Phone. We went ahead and ordered the budget friendly Nokia Lumia 521 to see how it works.  It’s also available from T-Mobile, Walmart and other retailers, but the Home Shopping Network bundles a few extra accessories for a really great price.  Not ony is this Nokia Lumia 521 a really great deal, but there are a few things that ...

Apple iWatch price range, Nexus 4 for $199, WP8 to merge with Windows RT & more – Pocketnow Daily

Watch today’s Pocketnow Daily as we talk about Sony’s “camera lens” alternatives and their insane price tag. We later talk about the HTC One Max and some possible options for fingerprint scanning technology. Microsoft is up next as new reports talk about a merger between Windows Phone 8 and Windows RT. Then we go through a batch of Apple rumors that include the iWatch and even a possible iPad launch on September 10th. We end today’s show talking about the LTE Nexus 7 reaching Europe, aside from the recent price drop to just $199 of the Nexus 4. All this and ...

Why did Motorola bungle the Moto Maker launch so badly?

You might not know it from how often we complain about them, but by and large, smartphone launches go off without a hitch. Maybe the price isn’t where we’d like it to be, or we hold a grudge about some unnecessary carrier exclusivity, but most of the time the phones show up right when promised, ready for us to buy. Motorola’s Moto X started going up for sale last week, and while the phone itself is a dream come true (and if you haven’t noticed yet, we ...

Microsoft extends cheap dev registration; will it jump-start WP8 development?

Microsoft’s been making some admirable efforts this summer to help encourage interest in Windows Phone development. In early August, we saw the launch of the Windows Phone App Studio, letting even programming novices take a shot at building their own WP8 apps. That arrived alongside news of changes to developer policies, like how any users could now register as devs and get started sideloading their App Studio creations, without needing to pay any of the fees associated with full-on developers – the kind ...

Moto X cost-to-build breakdown suggests US assembly adds little expense

Having its Moto X assembly plant in the US offers Motorola a number of benefits: its great PR for promoting the phone in the US, it enables the company (once the initial rush dies down, at least) to get even custom-made phones out to customers in just a handful of days, and we’ve even heard the theory that it could be a cunning end-run on any future attempts to block imports over patent disputes. However, we initially approached the idea with trepidation, worried that

How often do you disconnect? (Poll)

I am … a connected man. At any given time, I have two smartphones in my pockets, and many more in my “nerd bag“, along with a couple tablets, MacBook Pro, and a host of related devices. (Currently a Moga Pro controller, NEX-5N camera, UE Boom speaker, UE earbuds, Bluebuds X, etc.) In other words, I’m always connected – some way, somehow – to the Internet. I tweet dozens of times every day, I post to Google+ regularly, and I creep on Facebook for a collective hour ...

Prices rumored for Sony “lens camera” accessories

One of the most unusual smartphone rumors of the summer really started moving into high gear earlier this month, with a new wave of leaks transforming these odd Sony “lens camera” accessories, designed to attach to an existing smartphone and offer a higher-quality camera, from fantastic speculation to something that seemed nearly ready to launch. Indeed, we’re hoping to see Sony go public with these guys at its IFA event next week. We still ...

European retailers already selling LTE-enabled 2013 Nexus 7

It’s been a little over a month by now since Google first announced the new 2013 version of its Nexus 7 tablet. We’ve seen sales of the tablet begin, and have generally been pleased with the hardware. However, we still haven’t seen the complete new Nexus 7 picture, as Google has yet to get the ball rolling with sales of the LTE-enabled Nexus 7 – so far, it’s only been pushing the WiFi model. Back at launchtime, Google indicated that the LTE Nexus 7 would become available in a few weeks – so where is it? ...
