Pixel 4a 5G is now available for pre-order in the US Google Store

Let’s stay on the official news as, it’s been a couple of weeks since Google announced the Pixel 5 and the 4a 5G, we got a video coming soon. Well, the Pixel 5 is officially launching in the US and Canada today while the Google Store is starting with pre-orders for the 4a 5G. Just to jog your memory, the 4a 5G is the bigger brother to both the Pixel 5 and 4a, at least when it comes to size. IT’s powered by the same Snapdragon 765G, it brings a 3885 mAh battery, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a headphone jack. It packs the same camera array as the Pixel 5 which is, world class of course. It’s available for pre-order for $499 or $599 if you get the Verizon UW unit. Again, videos coming soon.

Amazon and Apple to face antitrust scrutiny in Germany

And, I guess this can become a spin off of the ban section, since it seems that political drama remains a thing in tech these days? Apple and Amazon are both facing scrutiny in Germany for “brand gating”. Basically, this allows the makers of branded products, in this case Apple with the iPhone, to have independent sellers removed from the platform, in this case Amazon, for Amazon to sell them instead… which is kind of what we’ve seen since day one. Amazon responded by saying that they have never removed sales permissions of sellers without sound and specific reasons as, they invest heavily into protection customers from illegal distribution of goods. However, the German agency claims that Apple and Amazon are a clear example of this. Similar claims have been made in the past and in other countries so, we’ll see how both companies thread after this, though I’m seriously hoping this doesn’t mean the end of Apple deals on Amazon.

macOS Big Sur beta references three unreleased Macs ahead of Apple Silicon debut

Now, moving on to something I’m really excited about, let’s talk Apple Silicon Macs. The company is reportedly having an event on November 17th focused on these Macs, and the latest update of the macOS Big Sur beta gives us more information. The files were discovered by a user on Twitter, where we get to see three different, unreleased Mac models. The models ending with f, g and h are all new, with one of them added back in beta 10 and 2 with the latest beta 11. If you go up in the list, the model ending with 2019 f, belongs to the 16in MacBook Pro I’m rocking, so 2020 f will most likely belong to the 2020 model which was leaked yesterday in the Boot Camp update. The other files most likely belong to a new iMac, and a MacBook Air. We don’t have much other information as of right now but, things should start ramping up very soon as we get closer to the event. I’m not gonna regret buying a MacBook Pro right now, I promise.. I’m trying.. Ugh, like seriously Apple?

The iPhone 12 mini was recently caught on video

Now, let’s keep talking about Apple’s unreleased products, and unreleased is a keyword here. Yes, Apple already announced the iPhone 12 Mini but, it’s not even available to preorder for another week. Well, a Romanian Tech Journalist managed to get his hands on one and went live for 40 minutes with the phone, showing off, well everything. He compares the size to the iPhone 12 and the 11 Pro Max and, man this thing looks tiny. He also shows us the camera working, both rear and the selfie shooter. At first we thought it could be a dummy because, even if he has the phone plugged in to show a screen recording, every time he showed us the display he couldn’t move it. However, we went through the whole thing and he did move it a couple of times so, it looks like the real deal. This iPhone 12 Mini brings a 5.4in display with pretty much the same capabilities as the iPhone 12, expect some coverage on it as soon as we are able to get it. I’m not gonna lie, this looks like such an iPhone 5 throwback and I like it.

Story of the day:

The latest Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra renders show an extra sensor

And finally the hottest news today have to do with Samsung and how it keeps moving things around with the Galaxy S21. Even if we are expecting the Galaxy S21 to launch earlier than expected, apparently Sammy is still tweaking the design… continuously. Last week we got the first renders for the device and I said that they might change over time. Well, OnLeaks is back at it again, this time with a revised version of his renders for the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The display and the camera module pretty much look the same but, there’s an extra camera here. The first renders brought a quad camera array but, this new one includes 5. From what we can see, this includes the main sensor, a wide angle, the periscope telephoto, and two extra sensors. One of them might be a ToF sensor, but that still leaves a mysterious one out. The S21 Ultra is expected to bring an updated version of the 108MP sensor we get on Samsung flagships, as well as a 40MP selfie shooter to match the original Ultra. Some other rumors hint to this 5th lens being a second telephoto, but that’s all speculation. And again, we are expecting these to launch either in late January, or early February.

Google says selfie retouching can negatively impact mental wellbeing

Filters popularity has rapidly increased over the past few years. Almost every OEM is offering you filters to play around with. However, sometimes, filters are turned on by default in the photo apps without your knowledge. According to Google, these default filters can quietly set a beauty standard that some people compare themselves against. Hence, it is changing how it handles selfies with its newest phones. The company will turn face retouching off by default from the Camera app for its Pixel 4a, 4a 5G and Pixel 5.

“We conducted multiple studies and spoke with child and mental health experts from around the world, and found that when you’re not aware that a camera or photo app has applied a filter, the photos can negatively impact mental wellbeing,” said Google in a blogpost. Now, people will get to choose if and when their appearance is changed in pictures. “If face retouching filters are on, this should be clearly indicated in the product experience.”

With the new range of Pixel phones, selfie retouching options are available in the camera app, but turned off by default. Moreover, Google will update the phones to relabel the retouching options and avoid judging words, like “beauty.” You’ll see value-free, descriptive icons and labels for face retouching options. Further, on selecting face retouching effects, you’ll see more information about how each setting is applied and what changes it makes to your image.

It is not clear if and when these settings will roll out for older gen Pixel phones.

Well, if you’re interested pre-orders for this phone will begin on October 1st on Verizon. If you’re not on Verizon, don’t worry, AT&T and T-Mobile will be getting it this fall, and you’ll be able to get it on third party retailers like Amazon and Best Buy as well. Confirmed: There is no OnePlus 8T ‘Pro’

OnePlus 8T 5G will run OxygenOS 11; also spotted on Geekbench

Now let’s move on over to OnePlus as we’re basically in Tech-Tober already so, the Pixel isn’t the only thing we’re getting. OnePlus is gearing up to launch their T Series smartphone on October 14th. There’s been multiple rumors and leaks that there won’t be a Pro variant, even if the company has been teasing something “Ultra” for the event. Well, Pete Lau just confirmed that there won’t be an 8T Pro this year as, according to him, “users who like the Pro-level products can choose the regular 8 Pro, the annual machine king. Their current plan is defined in a direction where there won’t be no room for upgrade. And later in that statement he said 8T, hashtag, hashtag and a surprise that is worth the wait. Now, since they’ve been teasing something Ultra and there is no room for upgrade, we could assume that the regular 8T will pack a lot of punch. The leaked specs for this phone include a 6.5in display running at 120Hz, the Snapdragon 865, no Plus, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Finally, it’ll pack a quad camera array at the back with a 48MP main sensor, a 16MP ultra wide and two useless macro and portrait shooters. We’ll keep you posted as we get closer to the event, and no worries, that Macro Camera is not what makes it ultra.

Distributors could get the first iPhone 12 batch as soon as next week

I know it’s Google Day but, let’s talk about the iPhone 12 for a second. Jon Prosser revealed some new details of what and when we should expect them on Twitter a couple of days ago. According to him, the first shipments of finalized iPhone 12 units is going out to distributers on October 5th. This shipment will include the 5.4in iPhone 12 Mini which will start at 64GB of storage and the 6.1in iPhone 12 which also starts at 64GBs. He also mentioned that the 12 and 12 Pro Max will start at 128GB when it comes to storage and, them not being in that shipment list serves as some sort of confirmation that, we won’t be getting these until later and we’re expecting that to be some time early November. Finally, he added that the event will be happening on October 13th after all with pre-orders on the 16th and they’ll be in stores on October 23rd.

Google Pixel 5 leak reveals the upcoming phone in all its green glory

It’s raining Google leaks right now for the company’s two upcoming smartphones – Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G. After appearing in a hands-on image and then getting all their specs as well as pricing leaked, the two upcoming phones have now surfaced online in high-resolution renders, giving us our first detailed look at their design. First up is Google Pixel 5 in both green and black colors. The leaked images come courtesy of prolific leakster Evan Blass, and appear to be official renders of the device.

Google is going green with the Pixel 5, literally!

Google Pixel 5 (Image: Twitter / @evleaks)

The company is doing a green shade on its Pixel smartphones for the first time, and it sure looks refreshing. What is worth noting here is that Google is apparently ditching the signature two-tone power button aesthetics with the Pixel 5 on both the black and green color options. Instead, the company is going for a polished power button with the same color as the rest of the body, but only with a different surface finish. It also appears that Google is bringing back the sandstone style surface finish that we last saw on the Pixel 2.

The camera module looks almost identical to that of the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4a 5G. But leaks suggest that Google is replacing the Pixel 4’s telephoto lens with a 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens on the Pixel 5. The rear-mounted fingerprint pattern is here to stay, a trait Google is now continuing for five generations of Pixel smartphones.

Blass has also shared renders of the Pixel 4a 5G. Although it looks identical to the Pixel 5, the bezels on the Pixel 4a 5G are thicker and it features a white power button that provides a subtle contrast against the black unibody frame. As per a recent leak, the Pixel 4a 5G will be made out of polycarbonate, while the Pixel 5 will rock a more premium metallic build.

Pixel 4a 5G leak reveals it’s a slightly toned-down Pixel 5 with a cheaper build

Earlier this week, the Pixel 5 appeared in an extensive leak that revealed all of its key specs, while independent retail listings across Europe revealed its asking price and color options too. Well, now is the turn of Google’s other upcoming device – the Pixe 4a 5G – to get the leak treatment prior to its debut on September 30 alongside the Pixel 5. The exhaustive leak, which comes courtesy of WinFuture, suggests that the Pixel 4a 5G will share most of its internal hardware with the Pixel 5, including the silicon powering it as well as the camera setup. Confusing, right?

As per the report, the Pixel 4a 5G will feature a slightly larger 6.2-inch OLED display with an identical hole-punch cutout. However, the bezels on it will be slightly thicker and it will stick to a 60Hz refresh rate, while the Pixel 5 will offer a 90Hz display. Also, the Gorilla Glass 6 layer on the Pixel 5 will reportedly be substituted in favor of the older (and cheaper) Gorilla Glass 3 for the Pixel 4a 5G. Another key difference is that the Pixel 4a 5G will reportedly have a polycarbonate unibody build, while Pixel 5 opts for a more premium recycled Aluminum frame.

Both the devices will be powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC and will also come equipped with the in-house Titan M security chip. The Pixel 4a 5G will pack 6GB of RAM (vs 8GB on the Pixel 5) and 128GB of non-expandable internal storage. The battery fitted inside the Pixel 4a 5G is a slightly smaller 3,800mAh unit that supports 18W fast charging, but no wireless charging or the ability to wirelessly charge other devices.

Coming to the camera setup, it is identical both in terms of sensor and capabilities. You get an optically stabilized 12MP primary camera that can capture 4K videos at 60fps and 1080p videos at up to 240fps. It is accompanied by a 16MP wide-angle camera with a 107-degree field of view. Over at the front, the Pixel 4a 5G is said to offer the same 8MP selfie camera as the Pixel 5, sitting in a circular hole-punch cutout. As for the pricing, Google has already confirmed that the Pixel 4a 5G will cost $499 in the US.

Google schedules September 30 event to launch Pixel 5 and new smart devices

Google has sent out media invites for an event on September 30 where the company is expected to launch new hardware. Of course, it will be a digital event because of the new normal we are living in right now. And oh, Google is not holding any secrets regarding the devices it is going to unveil later this month. “We invite you to learn all about our new Chromecast, our latest smart speaker, and our new Pixel phones,” says the invite. So, we are expecting to see the debut of Pixel 5 and the Pixel 4a 5G, as Google promised to reveal more detail about them in the fall season months ago. In addition to the Pixel duo, Google will also launch a new Android TV dongle that has been popping up in leaks with the codename “Sabrina” for a while now, and a new Nest-branded smart speaker.

Google’s FAQ page says that the “Launch Night In will be available for viewing by the general public on September 30th at 11am PT.” The company, however, has not revealed details about the platforms where the launch event will be livestreamed for the general public. Coming to the hardware launching during Google’s September 30 event, leaks have revealed a lot about them including specs, features and even images. Starting with the Pixel 5 and the Pixel 4a 5G, leaked images have hinted that both the devices will share a lot when it comes to their design language. The Pixel 5’s leaked renders also show a design that is heavily inspired by the Pixel 4a, down to the hole-punch display, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and a squircle camera module.

Talking about specs, the Pixel 5 will reportedly feature a 6-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh. It will draw power from the Snapdragon 765G SoC ticking alongside 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. At the back, you’ll find a 12.2MP main camera and a wide-angle lens that replaces the telephoto lens found on its predecessor. Selfie and video call duties will be handled by an 8MP front camera, while a 3,800mAh battery will keep the whole package running. Coming to the upcoming Android TV dongle codenamed “Sabrina”, it will reportedly cost $49.99. It might offer a dedicated Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) to automatically enables a low-latency mode for providing a lag-free gaming experience. Leaks suggest it will flaunt a pebble-like design and have a USB Type-C interface for connectivity.

Google’s Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a might be launched later this month

When Google launched the Pixel 4a last month, the company also confirmed the impending debut of Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5. But back then, Google only gave a vague idea of when these two phones will be launched, leaving us with nothing but a broad “in the coming months” waiting time. In the meanwhile, details of the two phones such as specs and pricing kept appearing in leaks. Now, another leak which allegedly comes from a carrier in Europe suggests that both the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a will be launched later this month.

As per a screenshot obtained by Caschys Blog, the internal database of Vodafone Germany mentions a September 25 launch date for the Pixel 4a and the Pixel 5. However, details such as memory configurations and the pricing of Pixel 5 were not mentioned. As for the Pixel 4a 5G, Google has already confirmed that it will start at $499 in the US market. But if one were to take a calculated guess, the Pixel 5 would easily cross the $600 price point.

However, the two phones will only be available in select markets where the 5G infrastructure is up and running. In Google’s own words though, “two new 5G Pixel phones that were announced globally today, these will not be available in India or Singapore, based on a variety of factors including local market trends and product features.” In case you are wondering about the hardware of Google’s upcoming phones, take a look at the table below:

Qualcomm Adaptive ANC offers enhanced comfort, sound quality for true wireless earbuds

Qualcomm will introduce 5G to its Snapdragon 4-Series in 2021

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G Compute Platform brings a plethora of new features

This morning Qualcomm made some very interesting announcements. First off they announced their new Bluetooth Audio SoC, the QCC514X which offers enhanced comfort, higher quality and adaptive ANC for TWS Earbuds. We also know that company’s goal is to bring 5G to everyone, so they announced that they will be bringing 5G to their Snapdragon 4 Series by 2021. So far, only the 6, 7 and 8 Series rock 5G, and by introducing it to the 4 it will allow them to take 5G capable smartphones to 35 new countries across Africa, Asia, Europe and more. Motorola, OPPO and Xiaomi have all committed to launch 5G smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 4 Series. Finally, they also showed the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 for 5G Computing. Gen 2 apparently brings a 50% improvement in system-wide performance and battery life against competing solutions. It supports both sub-6 and mmWave, along with Wi-Fi 6. We have a full list of specs and technical details in the links in the description but, it should make it to computers later this year.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Lite and S20 FE may launch soon

We’ve started covering rumors about the Galaxy S20 Rumors a while back. Then we thought it wouldn’t be a Lite variant and it would be dubbed the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition but, apparently these are two different phones. The S20 Lite has appeared on different and official Samsung support websites, like on the Gear 360 camera troubleshooting tutorial. On the other hand, the S20 FE has been certified by the Bluetooth SIG and Wi-Fi Alliance in three different versions, an LTE variant, and the other two were 5G variants, one supporting sub-6 and the other one with mmWave. We’ve been expecting the S20 FE to launch in October but, we’re not sure how Samsung might proceed if they do decide to launch the S20 Lite as well.

The unique LG Wing with rotating screen is coming on September 14

We knew that the amount of leaks we were getting for the LG Wing was kinda suspicious for a concept, so now we get some official press invitations from LG. Yesterday the company posted a teaser on YouTube to “Explore the Unexplored” so they’re dubbing this the LG Explorer project as it tackles uncharted territory in the industry. Apparently the company is partnering up with Rave, Ficto, Tubi, Naver and Qualcomm for this rotating device. We also have more details on it, it looks like it’ll feature a 6.8-inch primary display with a 4-inch secondary display with a 1:1 aspect ratio. It’ll reportedly be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G or the 768G and it will feature a 64MP camera. It’ll be announced on September 14th at 10AM ET on LG’s YouTube channel.

Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a have just passed through the FCC

We’re getting closer and closer to the leaked Pixel 5 launch date and, it looks like we’re actually getting there. A couple of days ago both, the Pixel 5 and 4a 5G went through the FCC hinting that the launch is close and revealing a lot of details. This certification revealed the model numbers for both the 4a 5G and the 5 in several variants. According to the report, the 4a 5G will reportedly bring the exact same plastic body from the regular 4a but with 5G connectivity and a larger display. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 765G, and it’ll pack a dual camera setup which will include a wide angle lens. The Pixel 5 will apparently come in two 5G flavors, the first one with sub-6 and the mmWave variant will reportedly be exclusive to Japan for some reason. It’s also expected to pack 8GB of RAM and a 4000 mAh battery. We should get these phones on September 30th and in October but, with Google you never know.

Story of the day:

iPhone 12 Pro leaks reveal camera layout with LiDAR sensor and new color variant

Finally, let’s talk about iPhones as, we have some new developments. We have some new leaks from Twitter and a new report from Bloomberg. Starting off with the Twitter leaks, we have some new images from a tipster that show the rear glass panel for the iPhone 12 Pro showing off the new LiDAR sensor at the bottom which is actually smaller than we thought it would, it’s almost the same size as the True Tone flash which sits at the top. There’s also a new image that comes from Weibo that allegedly belongs to an iPhone 12 Pro Max case with the same camera array, including the extra slot for the LiDAR sensor. Moving on, a new report from Mark Gurman claims that Apple will be ditching the Midnight Green Color variant for a dark blue tint. It isn’t the first time that we’ve gotten leaks of a blue iPhone but these have been consistent for the iPhone 12, with renders going all the way back to January.

Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a have just passed through the FCC

We are expecting the new Google Pixel 5, and the 5G enabled Pixel 4a to launch by the end of this month, and it seems that Google is getting everything ready to have its devices ready. Both of them have passed by the FCC this morning, and they reveal some interesting details.

The new Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G has recently passed through the FCC. The devices have presented lots of variants, and we have them all listed here. The Pixel 4a appears with G025H, and G025I model numbers, since the original Pixel 4a is the A4R G025J, which would arrive with the same plastic body, 6GB RAM, and a headphone jack as the regular Pixel 4a. The differences will be found in 5G connectivity, a larger punch-hole display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor, and a dual-camera setup, including a regular and a wide-angle camera lens.

The Google Pixel 5 devices come in two 5G flavors; the first one will only have Sub-6 5G connectivity with model numbers GTT9Q and G5NZ6; the second one is only for Japan, while the GD1YQ and G6QU3 would also include mmWave 5G support. The Pixel 5 is also supposed to come with 8GB RAM, a 4,000mAh battery WTP, or wireless power transfer to charge accessories, but unfortunately, no audio jack.

“FCC ID: A4RGD1YQ (original model) and FCC ID: A4RGTT9Q (variant model) are HW identical except components depopulated for Part 30 mmWave. Other than this item, the RF and antenna design is the same.”

First real-life image of Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G appears online alongside key specs

Well, Google’s upcoming Pixel smartphones are at the center of leaks, again. This time, a live image allegedly depicting the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G has surfaced online, alongside key specs of each device. The image, which comes courtesy of Reddit (via XDA-Developers) shows the Pixel 5 rocking a black paintjob, while the Pixel 4a 5G can be seen sporting a white finish with a contrasting black camera module.

While the Pixel 5’s design is hardly a surprise after we saw the renders last week, the Pixel 4a 5G appears to be the more interesting one as it houses two cameras at the back (unlike the 4G-only Pixel 4a, which has a single rear camera). In case you’re wondering about the leaked hardware details, they are listed below:

The Pixel 5 ( in black and green colors) and the Pixel 4a 5G in a single black shade will reportedly be launched on September 30, while the Pixel 4a 5G flaunting a white paintjob will arrive in October. Google has already confirmed that the Pixel 4a 5G will cost $499 upon its debut, but the asking price of the Pixel 5 is still a mystery. At least, for now!

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, 10.2-inch iPad and more on sale today

Apple’s latest MacBook Pro, new Samsung Galaxy devices and more available today

Deals. If you’re interested in laptops, the Galaxy Book Flex which we just reviewed is currently $150 off on Amazon, leaving the Intel Core i7, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage variant for $1200. The latest 13in MacBook Pro is also $200 off, leaving the Intel Core i5, 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage variant for $1800 shipped. Finally, the Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL which we’ll talk about later are up to $60 off, so definitely check if they’re still there. We have more deals on Sony headphones and more.

MediaTek to bring 5G to more Intel PCs by early 2021

MediaTek just announced their latest collaboration with Intel, and according to them, they’re planning to bring 5G to the next generation of PCs. Their new T700 5G modem supports sub-6 network architectures and will help deliver consistently faster and more reliable connectivity to new Intel-powered PCs which will apparently come out in early 2021. We still don’t know if we’re talking full blown high-spec PCs or more entry level devices but, on the press release the company said that a good partnership is based on execution so, we’ll see what we get next year.

Sony unveils WH-1000XM4 headphones with improved noise cancellation and dual device pairing

It’s no secret that Sony has made a huge dent in the market with their earbuds and headphones. Well, yesterday the company just announced their latest and greatest, the WH-1000MX4 headphones, we just hope they can keep working on their naming schemes. From a design perspective you shouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the Mark 3’s and, they actually bring the same 40mm Audio Drivers but, where you should tell a difference is in the Noise Cancelling. According to Sony, the new Bluetooth Audio Processing Chip can analyze ambient noise and make adjustments to the audio 700 times per second. It also brings other new features like new five different microphones for “Precise Voice Pickup”, and multi-point pairing to pair them with two devices simultaneously. They’re currently available for pre-orders on both Amazon and Best Buy for $350.

The Huawei Mate 40 could be Huawei’s last flagship with a Kirin processor

Richard Yu recently spoke on the CIT Tech Summit about the Mate 40 and their current situation in the trade war. The Mate 40 will be powered by the 5nm Kirin 1000 series which should be announced at IFA. The problem is that the US will be blocking TSMC from manufacturing any more SoCs for Huawei by mid-September. By then Huawei is expected to secure 15M chips for the Mate 40 and even if the company considers that that is enough for the time, they will need to look for a new supplier once they run out of phones. We expect for Mate 40 leaks to come in soon.

Apple staring at camera lens supply shortage over quality issues for iPhone 12: Kuo

iPhone 12 lineup may not feature 120Hz displays after all

Yesterday we got some new leaks from Weibo showing some changes in the display panels that will make room for the 5G antennas. This panel in the picture apparently belongs to the 5.4in iPhone 12 and according to the tipster, this phone won’t bring the smaller notch that we were expecting, meaning it’ll probably only happen with the Pros. Ross Young also tweeted out that apparently we won’t be getting 120Hz displays as, there are no 120Hz driver ICs in these displays. According to a new report from Ming Chi Kuo, there are some new delays in the pipeline. Apparently supply chain is having some issues with the wide angle camera lenses and Apple will have to rely more on their second supplier. This is for the Non-Pro variants and if their second supplier is able to pull off enough supplies but if not, it may be affected by a few weeks.

Story of the day:

Leaked Google document suggests a foldable Pixel is slated for late 2021 debut

We could have an official launch date for the Google Pixel 5

Google discontinues the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL merely 9 months after launch

We know that we can’t trust Google with keeping official information secret. Right? Well… Google France just spilled the beans in an official blogpost where it says that the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5 will be available in France on October 8th. A couple of days ago, we covered some Pixel 5 display leaks from Ross Young but a few hours after we wrote the script he also said that we should expect these devices in 60 days and well, what better source to confirm it from than Google. As a matter of fact, the company has apparently discontinued the Pixel 4 and 4 XL, if you go to their store they are out of stock except in some very specific configurations. Google even contacted the Verge and said that they’ll be available on third party retailers like Amazon until supplies last. However, we did get some more leaks but they’re for the future. Last year Google confirmed that they were experimenting foldables but, we didn’t hear much after that. According to a leaked document from Google, we might be getting a foldable Pixel smartphone in Q4 of 2021. It’s codenamed “passport” and with this codename we’re not sure what kind of foldable we’re getting but, we have seen some patents of Google working on a clamshell foldable and well, Android is adding full support for foldables this year.

Google finally launched the Google Pixel 4a after months of delays. It is already available for pre-order at just $349, if you don’t care for 5G. For those who feel like 5G is necessary at this point in their lives, Google also announced a Pixel 4a 5G. This 5G enabled device will arrive alongside the new Google Pixel 5. Google didn’t give a specific launch date for these new devices, but it seems that we could have an “official” launch date, according to a leak in an official blog post.

According to information found at Google France, the new Google Pixel 5 and the 5G version of the Pixel 4a may arrive in October. A 9to5Google reader from France found that the French version of Google had announced the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G along with the regular version that is already available. This information was soon taken down from Google France, but it was already too late. Now, will you wait for the Pixel 4a 5G, or will you settle for the 4G LTE version?

Google’s Pixel 4a 5G is coming this fall at $499, Pixel 5 will tag along too

Google has just revealed the Pixel 4a, its latest budget phone after a long, long delay. And to somewhat make up for that late debut, the company has revealed its plans for two more upcoming phones – the Pixel 5 ‘flagship’ (that flagship status is currently debatable) and the Pixel 4a 5G, which Google has stylized as Pixel 4a (5G) for reasons only known to Googlers.

Starting with the Pixel 4a 5G, Google says it will cost $499 and will debut in the fall season, alongside the Pixel 5. The company has also shared a teaser image (above) that gives us our first glimpse of the two phones from the side, but we don’t know (officially, that is) which one is which.

Notably though, both the phones will be 5G-ready (the Pixel 4a is LTE-only) and will be sold in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Taiwan, UK and the US. So far, details about the internal hardware of the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 are under the wraps, but Google has promised that more information will be shared officially soon.
